A springtime poem written for Countrymom's Senior Center Forum's contest.
All of the drab, lifeless winter lawns
are turning from brown to green.
The bare limbs of hibernating trees
have come alive with newborn leaves.
Colors abound – pink and purple tulips,
red and white azaleas making a scene,
yellow daffodils in the frost-free dawns,
the white blossoms of the Bradford pear;
all help make this season beyond compare.
Migrating birds stop by, putting on a show.
Who knows how much farther they must go?
On the front yard robins do their hopping act.
Cars are painted with a coat of yellow pollen,
the same pollen that makes allergies react.
Such beauty and warmth to make hearts sing.
A miracle? No, it is just a touch of spring.
