Goodbye Mom

She lies in pain,
she suffers.
Mind comes and goes.
Eyes clear then glassy.
What is she thinking?
What does she feel?
All the signs--
death is coming.
I see the shadows
surround her,
waiting.
Nurses flit in and out.
Family and friends
gather, not knowing
what to say or do.
All leave and the room
is empty except
for Mom and me.
I have mere moments
alone with her.
I talk to her,
tell her it's okay
to let go.
My sister comes back,
just a mother and her girls.
Soul wrenching cry,
then she is free.
You could see wings
