Much as I try to run my house my way, my cat thinks otherwise....
WHO’S THE MASTER

This poem takes on extra poignancy as the subject, Venus, sadly died in July 2015. She is much missed and this poem will remain as a lasting tribute to her

I look at him with wide eyes
all I have to do is stare
ignoring me, he tries and tries
but how can he not be aware

who is the master of this house
do you really think it’s him
he thinks he dictates but I douse
that thought …I think he’s very dim

it only takes but a minute or two
before he does my bidding
the thing is it’s not even a coup
he’s too easy, I never give in

You see I’m a cat, Venus is my name
and we cats are somewhat crafty
I purr and nuzzle, have no shame
with my loving eyes so glassy

I think he knows I love him really
but I cannot let him win
I try my best not to make him look silly
but it is I with the cheeky grin
