When friends move away
Childhood Friends

We ran wild through the cow pasture, played dress up, had sleepovers and picked wild flowers. We played on the swing set in her back yard, drank gallons of Kool-Aid on a hot day. Her dad made mountains of pancakes for breakfast. Rainy days were spent playing inside. It was magical and it seemed like it would last forever.

I knew they were moving after the school year finished, but I was not prepared  when it happened. Her dad worked at the Asbestos mine and was transferred to NFLD and they moved away.

At first we wrote letters, but eventually we drifted apart. She was too far away to call long distance and back in those days before computers, there was no email or texting.

Adult Friends

Their lives were entwined with mine. We attended church together, ate out, had BBQs in the backyard and drank gallons of coffee on a cold day.. We laughed and did lots of fun things together. It was magical and it seemed like it would last forever.

I knew they were moving in the spring, but I was not prepared  when it happened. He got a new job and they  moved miles away.

We stay in touch by email, Facebook and Skype, but still it is not the same.
