Lesson 3 work for Charting the Seas of WdC
1) I heard there are several ways to get to my account page. Tell me where these links are found. Which one do you prefer to use? Why?

1. click your username on top of the flat rectangle box on the left hand side of your screen. This one is my favorite because it's the easiest and most convenient for me.
2. click "my account" which is the 5th link going down on the tall rectangle underneath the flat rectangle on the left bar.

2) I'd like to read an Action/Adventure item. How do I find an item of this genre? Which links do I need to use?

on the same tall rectangle where you can find the "my account" link, click "browse by genre". a long list of genres should pop up to the right, the first of which should be "action/adventure". make sure to right-click it to open it in a new tab though.

3) Some days I only want to read poetry. How can I find a list of poems only?

Under "browse by type", which is right on top of "browse by genre". under the first category of "static items", the first choice there should be poetry.

4) I received a large gift of Gift Points. Where and how do I use them? What can I buy with them?

Gift points can be used for anything, pretty much. You can use them for raffle tickets, entering some contests, or upgrading your membership level. You can also send Gift Points as a present for someone else, use them as a prize for an auction or contest, but merit badges for others, give them out as review rewards, buy community notes, or use it for advertising your work under the "bidclick advertising" system. One very good place to find out where you can spend Gift points is the Marketplace, the last link under the long rectangle.

5) I'd like to learn more about the resources available to me as a writer. Where is the best place to find those? Which one if your favorite and why?

"writing resources" is the place to go. My favorite currently is the "copyright" section. I find the laws fascinating, especially when people are suing each other on TV! *Laugh*

My favorite link so far has to be the “copyright” link. I find copyrights oddly fascinating. The law, in general is very fascinating for me, though I would never become a lawyer. I remember the guy from the community radio telling us about copyrights when my Buddhist community began our radio outreach program. Now, I have copyrighted work of my own! I like that the Writing.com copyright is non-exclusive, because that lets me post my schoolwork into my portfolio, but not get in trouble for plagiarizing myself. I'm hoping/planning to maybe sell my work sometime in the far future, and having a place to store it all while I learn more about writing is great. I got as far as looking at the official copyright website from the US government, but I don’t have the time/pre-paid money to download it all! *Sad* Otherwise, knowing me, I’d download all 13 chapters and attempt to read through appendices A-N as well!
