A sonnet about Mimi's (my cat) 6th anniversary since we adopted her.
Her Sixth Gotcha Day
Jessica Marie

Her eyes are fixed upon the marble table
as she sits upon the wooden side chair;
looking to make her entrance, rather unstable;
her emerald eyes study the plates and silverware.
Yet she is unaware that the plates are for her,
celebrating six years that we have been together;
And from being wiry and scared to calm and demur—
we have survived the storms and rocky weather!
I love to hear her purr, yet well I know
that meows are silent, but cuddles are love;
I never want to let her go;
watching her bask in the sun looking at doves.
As she hops onto the table to discover,
the cake with the candle, to her is uncovered.
