Short poem about our throwaway society with a car park being demolished
The Multi-Storey Car Park by Dean Carroll

Once I was neat, pristine and austere
Modern and sleek, fresh and refined
I towered over the metropolis with swagger and voice
With cars queuing up for convenience and choice.

Now I'm abandoned, unloved and condemned
An ugly concrete monster so undignified and maligned
Once I was appreciated, well regarded and proud
Now I'm a cancer to the eye, ugly and unsound

With brutality and venom they smash through my shell
Bulldozers and cranes tear at my soul
Till there's nothing left but detritus and rust
The heart of me dies, crumbled to dust
