From Moonlight to Dawn

When the soil is red, and the moon is highest in the sky. Streams trickle but the wanderers do not wander by. Why? Thought you might have guessed it. They are dead, all dead.
Postmortem. I don’t believe in being vague. Surely you have thought about killing someone. No? Well, let me be the first to say that you either have a pathetic imagination, or are a very good liar. The ability to lie to others makes for a bad liar, conversely when someone can convince themselves of a lie, that person is a good liar.
I suppose you may want to know why they are all dead. Or, perhaps, even who the Hell “they” are. First off their names: James (friends call him Jimmy), Antoinette, Karina, Aerial, and Grant. Acronym JACAG, they are my buddies, and for now that is all you need to know.
My name is Kevin. I am a real-estate investor from Milwaukee Wisconsin. I have a wife, a mistress, and three beautiful kids. True, Milwaukee is kind of a shit hole, but other than that my life is great. My kids are great. My wife is great. My mistress is exceptionally great.
Last week Tuesday, I was painting oils after a hard day of grave digging. Grant interrupted my creative process by coming in and helping himself to a Captain and Coke from the fridge. He proceeded to get drunk, took a piss in my kitchen, then tore up my most recent work of art. Great friend isn’t he?
Wednesday of the same week, Aerial decided to visit me at work. A beautiful day out, even if I see it from inside a Skid-steer. Aerial’s presence was fine, and yeah I needed a lunch break, but after four hours of not working the boss gave me the axe. Five months and no warning, just one problem, and here I am jobless. Nonetheless, the sky was glorious Wednesday. Great day!
Then there was last night. As I am trying to get some sleep, all I can hear is Antoinette and Karina screaming. A terrifying, make your ears bleed, shriek from both of them simultaneously. I thought the worst: murder, rape, or torture. I started running towards the noise. I bolted, out where I thought I had heard the screams, and no one was there. I didn’t see blood, or bodies, or anything but the old oak tree that sat under the moonlight. A serene, even beautiful, night. What had I heard?
Was it some memories from the past haunting my mind with screams? The screams of the women I have loved? The screams of the women who have loved me, whom I could not recognize love in? I fell to the dirt and rocked back and forth. Jimmy spoke, “Why! We don’t need those bitches!” He repeated, “We don’t need…” Jimmy trailed off. Kevin spoke, “Yes we do. There is no place here for you Jimmy. There is not enough room in me for your persistent negativity. Go to Hell, where you belong!” Tears welled up in Kevin’s eyes as dawn was breaking. Kevin broke and now that he knew, all these voices were done, the rebuilding had begun. Advice: breath, eat, drink, and pray. For the love of God pray because Jesus saves, Amen.
