I hear it
It’s coming
I should be
Running
Nope
Not gonna
I’m standing
Right here
Defiant
Is this alliance
Within myself
I’m committed
Without question
Beyond dereliction
Devoid of any form
Of self-preservation
Simply
This is it
Quite clear
With little
If any fear
I won’t move
Absolutely
I refuse
The driver
The one coming
Barreling down
Upon me
Knows nothing
His weapon of choice
A three ton truck
Sixty in a forty five
They’ll be no time
To come to a stop
He’ll see me
At the last second
He won’t be able
To avoid what I
Intended all along
He’ll probably survive
Without as much
As a single scratch
Sure his truck
Will be smashed up
After all
I am no tiny fawn
Or puny doe
I am all buck
A few hundred pounds
Of meat and bone
With a rack of antlers
As wide as the front
Of my chosen
Method of the end
No doubt they’ll
Be cleaning
My guts and brains
From his vehicle for days
A deer in headlights
It’s not open season
Illogical is my reason
At least to those
Not bound to nature
In my eyes
And probably their own
They have it all
While I have nothing
They have a future
And really I do not
Death
Hear it comes
Unjustifiable
Is any reason
Oh
What a feeling
I’m not afraid
Not at all concerned
If anything I’m relived
Certain not to move
His tires begin to squeal
His lights mesmerize
Frozen
I do stand
As he, the man
Runs me down
