I was challenged to write a horror story about pancakes
I climbed out of the shower, wrapping a soft, green towel around my waist. I wandered over to the sink and streaked my hand across the mirror, removing the fog that had gathered on the mirror during my shower, exposing my early morning reflection.
"Damn, I'm getting old," I mumbled to myself as I stroked the stubble on my cheek.
I opened the medicine cabinet and routinely grabbed my razor and shaving gel. I turned the faucet on letting the water warm as I lathered the shaving gel in my hand. 'It's going to be a long day' I thought to myself and began smearing shaving gel along my jaw line.
I quickly shaved and began preparing for the day, walking out of the bathroom straightening my dark velvet tie. As I rounded the hall into the kitchen, Janet came into view. I stopped for a moment, admiring her. She stood barefoot in front of the stove, wearing an old T-shirt of mine. Occasionally her short stature forced her to stand on the balls of her feet and stretch over the counter to reach something. I watched my shirt ride up her back as she reached, revealing her green panties as she did so. God she was beautiful.
She turned to the sound of me entering the kitchen, "Good, morning."
"Morning," I mumbled back, "What's for breakfast?"
"Pancakes," She casually flipped a small pancake over in the pan. I noticed a stack of pancakes on the counter to her right. "How did you sleep?"
"Just fine," I hated morning chatter. I had not had a cup of coffee yet and didn't feel like engaging in a pointless conversation this early. I continued to stare at her as she plopped the last pancake on top of the stack. I could easily imagine all of her curves through my loose fitting shirt.
She turned towards me holding the plate of pancakes. A smirk grew on her face as she realized that I was staring at her body. It almost felt as though I should have been embarrassed that she caught me in a lustful gaze. It always amazed me how I'd been with her for seven years and was still attracted to her. I'd never leave her; she knew exactly what I wanted and how to keep me happy.
She seemed to glide across the tile floor as she approached the table and gently placed the pancakes down in front of me. She stood there for a moment, as if awaiting my approval.
"They look delicious," I smiled picking up a fork, "Seems to be missing something, though." I turned towards her smiling. She was already back at the cabinet, pouring me a fresh cup of coffee. She turned as I spoke and grabbed a bottle of maple syrup. "Not that," I sighed, gesturing towards the syrup.
A loud bang sounded through the kitchen as she slammed the syrup back on the counter, "NO." She was so cute when she tried to be stern.
"It's not that big of a deal, baby." I tried my sweetest voice to convince her. She approached me and placed the coffee offset to my right. "You know that you're going to anyway."
"If it's not that big of a deal, you can do without." She crossed her arms across her chest, leaning against the cabinet.
"C'mon." I raised my plate of pancakes from the table.
She slowly reached towards the drawer, whimpering as she removed a paring knife. She held it shaking between her thumb and index finger as she made her way towards me.
"Just a little bit…" I presented the plate to her once more.
She reluctantly extended her right arm over my plate and I could hear her anxiety starting to get the better of her as her breathing became more and more exaggerated.
"Go quickly," I urged, "Its worse when you prolong it."
With a quick swipe, the small blade tore through her wrist with ease. Immediately a beautiful spurt of red gushed from her arm. She angled her wound downwards, covering my pancakes in a sea of red liquid. I quickly grabbed my fork and began shoveling heaps of the pancakes in my mouth. I could taste her with each bite; the warmth of her fresh blood filled my mouth.
"I love you," She grabbed her open wound as she disappeared down the hallway.
