An emotional memory becomes a burned in image

My mind drifts away.
With my eyes closed,
I drift away, lying back
Into the gentle arms of ease.

I take a deep,
Greedy breathe,
Cleansing my palette
Of the need
For worldly treasures,
and pleasures,
Life's pains and stains.

Riding on an emotional
Wave of serenity,
A gray fog
Hugs near me,
Enveloping my being
In gray fading repose.

Friendly and warm,
Come fresh breaths,
Clear, long, and deep.
I settle into methodical rhythm.

Then changing new breathe
Comforts me,
Drawing a shadow
To mind.

Orange, purple, yellow,
Red, red, red
Splashes into
An image
Burnt into my mind
By shame.
Like a cold wet blanket.
