A poem written for a personification exercise.
The Photograph

I tremble with sorrow
as she gazes into my
fragile reflections.
My frayed, old image
hugs her sagging shoulders,
Comforting her in her
Grief.
I taste the salty tears
as they fall from my
tattered edges
And I wonder,
Are they hers or mine?

I feel wretched that the
sight of me
Causes such agony
It wasn’t always that way,
When they were first married,
and I was born into their lives,
She regularly studied me,
With a warm smile
of recollection.

Today, I am a
Painful reminder
of all she has lost.
I emit waves of
Loneliness
I feel his absence,
And it is not possible
for me to lie
My crumpled, fading picture
Speaks the truth,
I bleed emotion and
it falls into her heart.

It hurts, but I will never leave her,
She needs me,
as she needs air to breathe
I will always be here to
comfort her
She is, after all, the largest part of me.
