A native agrees to spy for the invaders of his home world.
“You aren’t welcome here!” Talik slammed his hands down on the table, his laser restraints shimmering, his eyes blazing. “You Catons!  You think you can invade our world without a fight?  Without resistance?” He snorted in disgust.

Garick met his fierce gaze without blinking. “We just need the names of the insurgents.  They obliterated your home province, remember? Not us.”

“They were casualties of war,” Talik snarled, “They betrayed us by serving you, so the gods willed that they pay for their crimes.”

“Fine,” Garick sighed, nodding to the automan.  “We’re through.  If the prisoner is not going to co-operate, ship him off to Ghianz.”  The drone stepped up and jerked the prisoner to his feet, but Talik reared back and head-butted it.  Without even a grunt, the drone grabbed Talik by the neck and slammed him face down on the table.  Talik’s howls drowned out the sickening crunch, blood spurted from his three nostrils. The automan hauled Talik to his feet and marched him through the door.

After receiving clearance from the optical scanner, Garick stepped through the portal into the command center.  Commander Dionic stood watching the monitors—one showed the interrogation room.

“All set, Commander,” Garick reported. “After that performance, Talik should have no trouble gaining the trust of the underground resistance.”

“You’re sure?” The Commander turned piercing gray eyes on Garick.

“Absolutely, their surveillance equipment might be a bit archaic, but their sonic probe should have picked up every word. Their visual imaging might even be able to recreate Talik’s little scuffle.”

“And Talik’s loyalty to us?”

“Assured when the insurgence killed his sister’s family.”

“That can’t be traced back to us?” The commander raised an eyebrow.

“No.” Garick smiled coldly. “I made sure of that.”

The Commander nodded. “Well done. We have our spy.”
