I sing the blue of nature.
Nature talks, and there are times
when she knocks off my socks.
As long as she’s alive and free,
I’ll stand by the tree, forever
with blue leaves.

Green is neat, and everywhere
the color is replete.
But if you pardon me I’m blown
away, with hue today, forever
with blue leaves.

Maybe it’s right, maybe the sight
of the blue maple tree
will catch on.
Maybe the blue from the sky
will appear in the lawn!

Nature’s shrewd, so maybe this
is merely interlude.
And if the autumn reds will sleep
today, that is okay, forever
with blue leaves.

Wrens abide, and I dare say
they flitter there with pride.
At least that is what I do see,
in the maple tree, forever
with blue leaves.

Chipmunks dart, and in the tree
they give the wrens a start.
Yet like wee sailors in the sea
they seem, to be a team, forever
with blue leaves.

Is this a dream?  Is it a dream
that takes hold of me as
if on cue?
Maybe tomorrow the sun will
arise wearing blue!

Nature speaks, and there are times
her sayings are for keeps.
As long as she paints with her brush,
I'll temper my rush, forever
with blue leaves.
