After suffering domestic violence this poem helped me understand how much it affected me.
These cuts and bruises, of course they hurt.
They'll heal up one day, they will revert.

The marks will vanish, the scars... they'll fade.
But with my mind, what a game you've played.

A silent ache, inside my soul.
It breaks me down, you've left a hole.

I'm left confused, upset and scared.
Of what you've done, you said you cared.

I trusted you, I believed your lies.
I couldn't see through your angel eyes.

Every promise, and your 'kindness' too.
Every sorry, meant nothing to you.

I believed your words, I watched you cry.
I felt guilty, so again I'd try.

To fix your pain, and help you through.
You'd push me down, and say 'I blame you'.

I felt at fault, for the pain you caused.
Responsible too, at your yell I paused.

I sat and cried, you watched me sob.
You carried on, your inside job.

To beat me down, in every way.
To leave me hurt, from night till day.

You never cared, you've scarred my heart.
And now my 'friend', we shall part.

You'll pay the price for what you've done.
From my home I've had to run.

So you just smile and I'll move on.
I'll beat you this time, for now I'm gone.

I hope you see the evil blood.
Inside your veins, there is no good.

A blackened soul, your heart will rot.
A fist of steel, i felt the lot.

Time will heal, these invisible scars.
And I'll eventually land among the stars.
