The Howls of Wolves

Rising out of my primordial brain,
out of the depths of racial memory
the feral female -
responding to the pack's ancient call -
would transform
my human flesh and bone
into Canus lupus fur, fangs and paws:

To run
the alpha female of my pack
across the arctic tundra's permafrost
hunting migrating caribou.
