Woman's resolve to claim her independence.
INDEPENDENCE

One day I shall be walking
As man’s equal partner.
That day I won’t be deemed as
Mere soil and he, gardener.

Too long I have been trampled,
Been held captive too long.
I’ve been told at husband’s feet,
Is where I do belong.

No, I belong to none but
My own self, which exists.
I am not born of his rib,
Though this thought still persists.

I think I was born of Him,
He is my creator.
I claim freedom, why must man
Be the mediator?
