My novels "All That Remains," "Are Your Dirty Little Secrets," "Destination: Berlin," and "The Wolf's Torment," were published through IUniverse. "Across the Fickle Winds of History," has been published through Lulu. While I've done a lot of self-publishing, I'm going to try to get an agent for my project, "The Hungarian." |

Well, I am still working on MARKETING plan. I have handwritten two more chapter of "HISTORY" but finding the time to type them up...that might be challenging. However - I was thinking of submitting HISTORY to Mary McCarthy Prize in Short Fiction. They are accepting Novellas now through 15 FEB. The winner gets published so that is very high on my priority list.
I prepared 3 more queries today. I'll be sending out to: Andrea Brown Literary Agency Susan Herner Lowenstein-Morel Associates. We'll see... |

Well, I got a couple more rejections the past couple of weeks - one from ETHAN ELLENBERG and one from DONALD MAAS. I was a bit disappointed by the MAAS one because I'd used my new query letter format too.
It's gotten GREAT reviews here on WDC and I think it has a lot of appeal. The second one is:
This is "DaVinci Codish" and DaVinci Code stuff is hot right now. So I am shifting my priorites to work on these two projects. I figure once I HOCK those then I can work on my BABY, "TORMENT". |

Well, heck, someone told me that writing is 10% and editing is 90% of writing. I totally believe that. Also, a good friend of mine said she was reading Stephen King. King advises to write the 1st draft for yourself, write the second draft for others.
I went to the Editor's & Preditor's site and found a couple of freelance Editors to work with. They've been great. I totally cleaned up the 1st 3 chapters and now I was prepared to query. But...I'd queried TWILIGHT OVER MOLDAVIA in the past and I got a bunch of reject slips. I had to find a query letter that worked. Here's what I found... Dear , I have been doing some marketing research for my recently written novel and I saw that you were the agent that represented ..., who writes a fantastic series of books regarding werewolves. With consideration to your acquisitions, I feel you will very likely enjoy my novel, also dealing with werewolves. I’d like to take the opportunity to pitch my project to you: Have you ever been so much in love that you would do anything for him? When patience and tolerance escape her, she seeks the help of a wolf and witch to conceive their child. I’ve written a novel titled, THE HEART’S TORMENT. It’s the story of Mihai and Theresa Sigmaringen, a young, royal, married couple, with duties and responsibilities to the principality of Moldavia. Theresa is deeply in love with Mihai, however circumstances beyond her control drive her to make a decision that will haunt their lives for a lifetime. THE HEART’S TORMENT is set in Moldavia, now a part of Romania, on the Black Sea in 1865, and chronicles the highs and lows of Mihai and Theresa’s relationship. THE HEART’S TORMENT addresses the age old question that appeals to a lot of readers – What would you do for love? How far would you go? I have polished a sixty-seven page excerpt containing the first three chapters. Thank you for your time and consideration of my query. I look forward to hearing from you. Now that I found a query letter that I think will work, it's time to do my marketing research. I went to the net in the hopes of finding books about werewolves. I found one, identified the literary agent, tailored my query to fit her, and I just sent out the query packet today. Prior to this I've sent out 6 queries with my old query letter and I've all ready recieved 3 rejections. I queried the William Morris Agency Manus and Associates - REJECT Ethan Ellenberg - REJECT Levene Greenberg L.A. - REJECT (online submittal) Book Ends Evan Marshal L.a. - REJECT I'm hoping my new query will work. I am also continuing my Editing work on THE HEART'S TORMENT. I'll see you next week with an update. StephB reporting from the Sandbox |
