Life in transition. It’s a common theme for everyone, I think. In one way or another all our lives change day-to-day, month-to-month, year-to-year.

Sometimes though, the changes come fast and hard. When I got married I moved out of the home I’d lived in since I was eighteen months old. In a few weeks I’ll move out of the house I’ve lived in for the past twenty-eight years, and away from the local I’ve lived in my entire life. After thirty years of being the wife of an executive who worked sixty hours a week, and took numerous business trips out of the country each year, I will find myself the wife of a semi-retired man who works from home. After a lifetime of suburban living, where no convenience is out of walking distance, we’ll be living in the mountains, thirty minutes out of town.

Yeah, life is changing.

Can I keep up with it? That’s the question.

When my late grandfather retired in the 1960's he sold up suburbia and moved to a five acre bush block in what we call our hills.

Although only thirty miles from the city back then it was very much 'in the bush'.

The property had a small creek running straight through the middle, slightly downhill east/west from one boundary to the other.

Both the entry and exit points were no more than twelve feet wide. Towards the western end it opened into a shady billabong about the size of the average backyard swimming pool.

For most of the year the creek was no more than a muddy trickle. But if the winter rains were good it turned into a raging torrent similar to that shown in your photos.

As a small boy I spent a lot of my school holidays with my grandfather.

Winter was the best time, throwing boat like objects picked up in the bush into the eastern end of the creek and chasing them along the bank only to see them disappear into the western neighbours property.

Nothing like a lazy little creek bubbling along, making gentle sounds. So nice to go wading in to cool off your hot feet. Yikes! You are very adventuresome and spry. It looks wonderful but a little overwhelming. Congratulations on a fun trip, and here's to many more!

Well from the picture, that looks like about the right size for a creek around here, though it is running a lot swifter than ours do. Looks like you guys had a wonderful time and I envy you living somewhere that you can do the hiking whenever you want to....sounds heavenly.

I'm a reluctant riser too, especially in winter, which it is here at present.
I'm just catching up on blogs after being off-line for almost a week. We had pretty severe weather last week, with flooding and wind damage all around the Newcastle , Hunter, and Central Coast of NSW (we are south of Newcastle). You may have seen reports of a bulk coal carrier grounded on a beach. We went to see that yesterday.
Anyway, back to the walks along the lake now that the floods have gone down.
