In keeping with the current events, a Presidential Election on NOVEMBER 5TH, how about a review of something patriotic, but fictional?

I’m kidding. I’m just kidding. All right already.

Vote November 4th.

DAVE

** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **

You will fall in love with Kevin Kline as DAVE, a look-alike for the President of the United States. For the real President to have time for his torrid love affair, Dave is solicited by the Secret Service. As you know MY TV IS BROKEN! I recall they first see him advertising cars before an audience, playing the part of the President. He is then taken to Washington, D.C. where he is groomed for an appearance as the President. The two finally meet and the real President gives approval before his rendezvous.

All goes according to plan until the real President has a heart attack. The limousine, that is taking Dave home, turns to go directly to the White House. The men explain that the Vice President is crazy and that the real President will be well soon. The country is to be run by the White House Chief of staff and Dave, using country savvy. There is a test they must make and call for the First Lady, played by Sigourney Weaver. Dave is shocked to find out she utterly hates him.

Hate turns to fondness, as she sees a different, kinder and more caring man. They later tell her the truth, as they take her to an underground hospital; the real President alone not expected to live. Dave meets the Vice President and is impressed. Before leaving, he sets things right and fakes the heart attack for the Vice President to be sworn into office.

Will he meet up with the First Lady again? Go now to your favorite DVD store for DAVE. We thank Warner Bros, Northern Lights Entertainment/Donner/Shuler-Donner and Ivan Reitman for producing the film. Gary Ross wrote the charming story.

Be sure to vote on November 4, 2008. Julie Caulfield gives this movie a *Star*.

SNOW WHITE

** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **

The TV is broken. It’s broken!!

We do know there is a Prince in the story. We have all seen Snow White. The story begins with her a slave to her step-mother, the wicked Queen, but her spirit remains sweet, for she knows that in a fairy tale, there is always a happy ending. In fetching a bucket of water she is seen by a Prince and shyly runs to peek at him, from behind drapes, as that is the custom. We are supposed to play hard to get.

The jealous Queen witnesses the young couple meeting. She goes to her mirror and says, “Mirror Mirror on the wall. Who’s the fairest of them all?” This time he answers, “Snow White,” because that is in the script. She becomes enraged and orders a “hit man.” He is to take Snow White into the country and bring back her heart. He finds her so beautiful, that he only warns her of the danger and yells, “Run. Run.”

As he watches her run to safety, he plots to take the Queen the heart of an animal (I don’t remember what it was. Okay?) The TV is broken!! Snow White is in the forest, eyes full of tears when she falls, to look up to see a tiny house. She tells herself not to be afraid and meekly walks to the front door to knock. There is no answer. She walks in to see tiny furniture and a lot of clutter (like my apartment). She thinks that if she cleans up they may let her stay. Afterwards, she falls asleep on their beds.

Seven dwarfs return from their work singing. There is Dopey, Sleepy, Sneezy, Bashful, Happy, Doc and Grumpy. They know someone has been there and discover her asleep. They instantly fall in love, except for Grumpy and have an evening of merriment.

** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **

Meanwhile the Queen consults with her mirror, “Mirror Mirror on the wall. Who’s the fairest of them all?” The mirror responds, “Snow White.” She immediately goes to her laboratory and creates a concoction.

The seven dwarfs must go to work, warning Snow White to not let anyone in the house. Later, an old witch comes with a large basket of delicious apples and one bite of an apple is the end of the young maiden.

Do the seven dwarfs come in time to discover the witch? I think they do. They chase her away to be destroyed. Snow White is sound asleep, however, and is to sleep forever or until a lover’s kiss.

Suddenly a white stallion comes with the handsome Prince Charming (or was that Cinderella?). He has been searching for her high and low. With his kiss she awakens for them to live happily ever after, riding off into the sunset.

I am proud to say that one week of the year the painter of Snow White was my neighbor in Burbank. No, I don’t remember her name. Maybe someone nice from Disney will call and remind me. We thank Walt Disney for the beautiful movie with a happy ending. If the TV worked there would be more credits. The TV is broken!! On the DVD you will hear Barbra Streisand sing “Some Day My Prince Will Come.” Be sure to find Snow White at your favorite DVD store and tell them Julie Caulfield sent you.

PEARL HARBOR

** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **

Two boys begin the story with their first flight, an adventure to leave them lucky to land alive. It’s much easier to take off than land in the aviation world.

We are reminded of World War II, with the men, played by Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett, grown up and enlisting to be pilots. The men stand in line to see a beautiful nurse, played by Kate Beckinsale, for testing. One meeting was not enough, with Ben returning to be stuck again. Two doses are a bit too much and he faints dead away.

The men go through training with Ben flying to England and reported dead from a battle. Meanwhile Josh and Kate become closer. A surprise for all, Ben returns to discover Josh and Kate are in love. Another kind of battle befalls, but as peace returns to the young men, Japanese planes fly overhead to destroy Pearl Harbor and American’s Pacific Fleet. The men head for their plane. Onboard a ship, a sailor that is usually a cook, played by Cuba Gooding, Jr. takes control of a machine gun to help his fellow crew members. It is a “day to live in infamy.” Always be on guard.

Alec Baldwin plays Colonel Doolittle, who trained 20 men for a mission to hopefully end the war of all wars. Our story’s heroes are included in the mission that uses heavier Army planes to take bombs to Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. Like many war stories, only one returns.

Find the DVD at your favorite store and tell them Julie sent you. We thank Touchstone, Jerry Buckheimer Films and Michael Bay for the epic motion picture that should have received Academy Awards.

THE APARTMENT

** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **

A rose will usually cheer up a woman, but in The Apartment the heart of Miss Timberlake, played by Shirley McClaine, is thought completely broken. Like Scarlett O’Hara said, “Tomorrow is another day.” Suicide is a permanent answer to a temporary problem. A man broke her heart, but another will come to repair it. Sometimes it takes years to find the second man to mend the heart. He will come. Like this story, sometimes they are only inches away possibly discouraged by competition.

The story begins with “Bud” Baxter earning extra money renting his apartment to gigolos for a fling. Later, an important gigolo, played by Fred MacMurray, leaves something behind, the girl. Deep in sorrow, for love lost, Miss Timberlake took sleeping pills. Baxter becomes a nurse and confident, and in the process, there is a change of characters for the love story. What do you do? You send the gigolo a fruit cake every Christmas.

We thank United Artists, The Mirisch Company and Billy Wilder for a heartwarming story that shows that there are millions of hearts in the world. Don’t take the loss of one too hard. Find the winner of five Academy Awards at your favorite DVD store and tell them Julie sent you.

Swans are in the same family as doves, a symbol of peace. With the subject matter of the reviewed film, we ask for world peace, that there never be another Adolph Hitler.

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL

** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **

The movie, Life is Beautiful, is with subtitles, being an authentic love story of World War II, with Italian and German dialogue. Everyone loves a romance and even in another language, it is easy to understand.

It appears my TV is terminal, but I will try to decipher the movie. The story begins in Arezzo, Italy, when car trouble takes Guido, played by Robert Benigni, with his friend to a farm. A pretty lady, played by Nicoletta Braschi, falls into his arms from the hayloft of the barn, the perfect way to meet a future sweetheart. He tips his hat to leave, but knows they will meet again.

We see what was typical in Europe during World War II. His uncle, a Jew, was roughed up by Germans. Then Guido has problems beginning his business after making an unfavorable impression of a man in charge. He still has a job as a waiter in a posh restaurant through his uncle. At this restaurant he rescues his sweetheart carrying her away on horseback, clearly as a Jew.

We see true love unfold as Guido and his son much later board a train destined for Auschwitz. Nicoletta boards the train as well. We see the cruelty of the Germans and finally we see Guido march to an alley to hear the terrifying riddling of a machine gun. His son, confused of his father not returning for him, escapes his hiding spot to see a U.S. Army Tank arrive. The war is over.

World War II was supposed to be the “war to end all wars.” Of course, since then, there was Korea, Viet Nam, Desert Storm and Iraq. We have our personal wars and the war to merely survive the day. Remember the love that was in the film, so strong Nicoletta boarded a train to hell to not lose Guido. Love will make us survive.

You may need to watch the film several times, being in subtitles. Each time you will enjoy it more. We thank Miramax Films and Mario and Vittorio Cecchi Gori with the Melampo Cinematographica production, earning seven Academy Award nominations and three Oscars. May we never experience another Adolph Hitler. Be sure to find the movie at your favorite DVD store.

With the serious subject matter, I hope you will forgive any mistakes with this review.

Julie Caulfield gives the film a *Heart*.

THE BLACK STALLION

The peace of the sea off Africa begins the story, while a small boy, called Alec, played by Kelly Reno, tours a passenger ship during his father’s poker game. He spots a man handling a giant perfidious black stallion and runs to share the moment with his father. Later they share the winnings, with his father, played by Hoyt Axton, handing him a pocket knife and a special horse won from a mysterious gambler of the Middle East. The story he tells Alec is that of a magnificent perfidious horse. Smoke came out of his nostrils. Only one young boy was able to ride him. Now in darkness, we hear his father play a soft melody on a flute and sit it down for his slumber. Suddenly the ship begins to sway harder and harder. A massive storm comes and treacherous rains. They find the life jackets, as the ship is doomed, already with a fire. While Hoyt helps others, Alec uses his knife to free the stallion with the giant horse jumping overboard. The ship is going down and now Alec is alone in the sea, but is he? Brushing against him is a giant stallion. The boy grabs his mane to awaken the following morning on a beach of an island.

The boy and the horse meet again, with the boy cutting a rope to free the horse from captivity. Alone on the island, the two become inseparable. When Italian sailors come, the horse follows to be hoisted onto the ship.

Alec, like in the fable told by his father, is the only person that can ride, “The Black.” They are home, welcomed by his mother, played by Teri Garr. Frightened, the horse runs across the countryside to be found by Henry Daily, played by Mickey Rooney.

You know there has to be a race. Most of my favorite movies have one. To find out the results, you can go to your favorite DVD store and tell them Julie Caulfield sent you.

We thank Metro Goldwin Mayer, Zoetrope Studios, and Francis Ford Coppola. Carmine Coppola arranged the perfect music. We can’t forget the breathtaking photography of Caleb Deschanel. The movie is a work of art.

A lover of the animal kingdom, Julie Caulfield gives this movie a *Heart*.

BLIND DATE

** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **

Fireworks spark when a cool executive trainee, needing a date for a vital dinner meeting meets his sister-in-law’s cousin. Walter Davis, played by Bruce Willis, is set up with Nadia Gates, played by Kim Basinger and is warned to not let her drink, with her having an allergy to alcohol. Some people must learn the hard way. First, they first meet with her insanely jealous ex-boyfriend, a defense attorney, played by John Larroquette, leaving him stuck in Japanese art.

Defending Nadia’s honor, Walter messes with a French waiter, arousing his boss, and disrupting the business meeting. The wealthy client’s wife, captured in old Japanese tradition, is rescued from hell, but Walter gets fired.

The couple stops for gas, but Nadia disappears. Walter is told she went to the Disco, where they meet again with David. The “bouncer” arrives to stop a brawl, but David holds up hard cash. When money is involved people are left to fend for themselves. Walter grabs Nadia and they run for it. That doesn’t stop David. He follows relentlessly, one time driving into a paint store.

You name it; it happens. Never mind Walter’s career, his beautiful car was destroyed and he spent the remains of the night in jail. What happens to this seemingly doomed couple? Go directly to your favorite DVD store for this hilarious comedy you will enjoy over and over again. We thank TriStar Pictures, Blake Edwards, writer, Dale Launer, and Producer, Tony Adams.

Julie Caulfield gives the movie a *Heart*, with it ending with a *Kiss*.

HELP OUR ANIMAL FRIENDS
THEY COULD HELP US IN RETURN

** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **

It is a fact that people that have pets experience longer, and more fulfilling, lives. Despair from the flat tire, the ornery boss or client and the inflatable bra that bursts when a boyfriend applies his fraternity pin, all disappear when you see your animal friend at the end of the day. Sometimes it’s a tiny Chihuahua and sometimes is a giant Great Dane, depending on the size of your home, yard and lifestyle. Apartment dwellers like cats and little boys may prefer snakes to tease a sister. Adopt a pet to save both his and your life.

The ASPCA announces the best cat pictures for 2008, located at
http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=media_newsalert072508&JServSe.... Read further to see a contest for your own pictures with a $250 prize.

You will read of the plight of the wild horses and burros. If you are lucky to own a mini ranch, adopt a wild horse. You can find a rugged young man to break him. With a carriage, you could save money on gasoline and save his life. To euthanize these animals is very wrong, as they were God’s original plan for our transportation for, at one time, nationwide travel. Today, they could save fuel for trucks with supplies and emergency vehicles.

Don’t abandon your big house, due to the gasoline problem; just add a room for grandma and a stall for a horse and buggy. You can laugh if you want, suggesting that we return to old style transportation, but the gas problem will only get worse. This is one solution.

BABY BOOM

** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **

What does every unsuspecting career woman need in her life? A baby. Well, J. C. Wiatt, played by Diane Keaton, doesn’t have time, because she has a 12:30 o’clock lunch meeting. The baby is handed to her and the executive is left stunned. Her life is seemingly turned upside down; then the job of juggling an instant family and career comes to blows, with J. C. choosing the baby.

She liquidates to buy a home in the country, but what happens when you buy unseen real estate? Disaster. Luckily the doctor, played by Sam Shepard, who saves her from a nervous breakdown before he helps a pig is single. Meanwhile, she comes up with a product. She is about to give up, ordering 12 cans of kerosene for a project, when travelers discover her product. This gives J. C. hope and she toils nonstop to create a million dollar corporation. The baby doesn’t look a day older and the cute doctor is still single. Amazing. We still love the story. She is faced with the decision of returning to the rat race of New York City a “hit” or staying in Vermont.

Find out the answer by finding the DVD at your favorite store and tell them Julie sent you. We thank United Artists, Nancy Meyers and Charles Shyer Productions for the funny romance and career suggestions every woman needs. If there isn’t a job, create one.

Julie Caulfield gives the movie a *Heart*.
