Saturday Image: First day of spring 2010

I spent part of today at a high school baseball game. The weather was perfect, sunny, warm with a cool breeze now and then just as a reminder that it's barely spring and the cold may come back to tease. The game was a scrimage: the score wouldn't count for their record, only a "let's get this season started" kind of game, which I like. Afterwar...[Read Full Post]

Free is Good, and profitable, so they say

I'm working on my newsletter today to go out tomorrow, and one thing I'm including is a code for a free download of Different Drummer. I decided recently to make the ebook free to help attract interest, and because I may be taking it apart and turning it into smaller books: rewriting, adding, deleting, editing.

Then I find this article throu...[Read Full Post]

Happy St. Pat's!

Did you know St. Patrick was kidnapped by a band of Irish rogues when he was 16, dragged from England to Ireland, and was held in slavery for 6 years? He finally escaped to the sea and grabbed a boat back to England, became a bishop, and then returned to Ireland to "drive out the snakes."

There are no actual snakes in Ireland (unless they&#39...[Read Full Post]

indies and gears and Alzheimers

I've been in heavy reading mode. I do that especially when I'm not in heavy writing mode. Most of the time, they balance and both modes are moderate. I realized this morning that this third blog is supposed to reflect that I'm in my stride as a writer, and yet most recent entries have been about my "stuck" mode. Yes well, it happens to every writer, I th...[Read Full Post]

You'll have to click on the photos below since I have more than one to share today and I'm too lazy today to load all three separately and link them here.

1st: my daffodils are on their way to full glory

2nd: Canadian geeese and a big duck (anyone know what kind it is?) enjoying the pond at our local park

the line's too wavy

Every day across America, a man threatens his wife or girlfriend with physical abuse, even threats of murder. The woman, then, goes to the police to turn him in out of fear for her safety.

What happens? Nothing. Unless she insists on getting a restraining order, and that rarely keeps the guy away if he's intent on causing harm.

I understand th...[Read Full Post]

Read an Ebook Week

This is Read an Ebook week and I forget who sponsors it and I'm too lazy to go look it up, but I'm taking part.

This week all four of my novels are on sale at Smashwords. Finishing Touches and Off The Moon are 26% off and the Rehearsal books are 50%, which makes them all right around $5. I price my Ebooks below market value anyway because I have issues spending $1...[Read Full Post]

Saturday Image: through the window

The hills of Pennsylania, February 2010, from my big front (side) window that nearly put us off even looking at this house because that's all we could see of it from the market photo ... and it made it look like a huge church instead of a house! I guess they were trying to show off what is actually a gorgeous feature of th...[Read Full Post]

and so, moving along

I'm going to go see Alice tonight, yes, in 3D. Yes, I think it's ridiculous to pay an extra $3 for 3D when movies are expensive enough, but we're at least doing the "before 6 pm and $2.25 cheaper" thing. Yes, it's still ridiculous.

It should be fun...[Read Full Post]

"It would be as if we drew serious conclusions about family life -- the reality as opposed to the representation of family life -- from looking at the way families interact or are portrayed in print ads or commercials. Everyone is smart enough not to do that."

to the beautiful soul who sent this badge through Rising Stars Secret Admirers!

Yesterday I was too overwhelmed to even respond to receiving an optimism badge. After my do-over wish (mulligan, that's the word I'd been trying to think of), Thursday evening, things dropped harder and faster. It&#...[Read Full Post]

Trigger: no, not the horse

This morning's discussion on a writing list triggered an A-HA moment that led to more questions. The discussion was about books that have influenced your life. While I couldn't name one in particular, I did have a short list come to mind for different reasons. But the discussion's big relevance hit when a comment brought something to light ...[Read Full Post]

Just HOW does a groundhog see his shadow when there has been nothing but thick grey clouds filling the sky all day long??

I smell a conspiracy. Someone was afraid he'd be held liable for his lies when we do have 6 more weeks of winter, which everyone already knew was coming. I'm not sure why. That doesn't seem to happen anymore. ...[Read Full Post]
