REVELATION

REVELATION

Fashion it is to reveal;
But my torn clothes I conceal.

Flowers ask the gardener:
Why favour but one colour?

Though he owns me, in fact he
Verily depends on me.

Picked up or ignored to pale,
Roses are destined to wail.

My heart was pricked by a thorn,
Which I can’t forget, nor mourn.

LET THE CINDER BURN

LET THE CINDER BURN

Let the cinder burn yet more,
Let wailing heart pine yet more.

In the stark, lonely darkness,
Let lonely spark shine yet more.

Don’t lament your fate. O rose,
Let the petals drop yet more.

Let the pricking of the thorn,
Bring out piercing cry yet more.

In the season of the fall,
Let all be barren once more...[Read Full Post]

I WISH YOU HAD BEEN MINE

I WISH YOU HAD BEEN MINE

I wish you had been mine, and,
Your beloved, I were;
In love valley, together,
Shyly we would whisper.

Evenings would have been fragrant,
Nights would have been so sweet;
Each gesture would have conveyed
The love message discreet.

Let’s recapture once again
Memories of days gone;
When I drank deep from ...[Read Full Post]

A DAY WILL COME: award winner

A DAY WILL COME:award winner

[Poem written on thirteenth day of Iraq war]

A day will come when the black world
Will reflect a different hue;
Darkness of night will be no more,
When sun will shine for me and you.

A day will come certainly when,
Freely the winds of love will blow;
When every lip will sing a song,
And, with love every he...[Read Full Post]

CAUSE OF RUIN—rated 5 by 2 viewers

[Thoughts on being ruined in love]

How was my heart so torn apart?
Why tell now when I’ve no heart?

I did rejoice when her I found;
Reality, though, did astound.

I lost the heart that I had won
Fate of love is known to no one

If pain in love is left behind,
Why love at all the fairer k...[Read Full Post]

FROZEN FLAME

[Describes how Love has metamorphosed the lover/beloved--a bilingual poem]

I was a mere frozen flame,
But your touch did me inflame.

I was just a thought, abstract,
You came and made me a fact.

I was hazy, misty trace,
You came and gave me a face.

My life was melancholic,
Till you played some magic trick.

I was ...[Read Full Post]

LEARNING TOO LATE -rated 4.5 by 1 viewer

LEARNING TOO LATE

[Feelings of a person wandering aimlessly and unsuccessfully in pursuit of love]

I have learnt how to live now
When life is ending somehow

Aimlessly on paths I go,
They, silent, pity me, though.

Rebuked by all and sundry
Lure of love no more for me

Even those who lack nothing
Have from face a smile missing

WOMAN'S CRY FOR JUSTICE--rated 4 by 1 viewer

WOMAN’S CRY FOR JUSTICE

[Woman cry against injustice in a man's world where women’s rights and feelings are trampled.]

Man needs woman as his mate,
Yet he can’t her tolerate.

He wants control over her,
Her life, her breath and whisper.

Though man is totally free,
Her freedom, does not like he.

WOMAN IS HUMAN

[A woman pleads to be treated simply as a human being, not as an icon of virtue and purity]

Let me be a human being,
Goddess I don’t want to be.
Do not worship me; please don’t
Make an idol out of me.

You wish me to be so pure;
I’m so thankful to thee.

On the cross of purity....[Read Full Post]

[A woman, unable to find work, is forced to sell her body to feed her baby]

For my wail, buyer is none;
For my truth, buyer is none.

Morals carry no value,
For morals, buyer is none.

I cry for my sick baby,
For tears, buyer is none.

I sell body to feed him,
But, for work, buyer is none.

With wounds in heart, I carry on.

Why wonder I am still living?
With broken heart I carry on.

I may one day yet meet my Love,

[A saga of romance--translated from the original Hindi/Urdu Ghazal]

Your one word just took my heart.
What unfairness on your part!

You came nigh and I got numb,
Eyes stuck on you, tongue got dumb.

THE WINDOW OF MY HEART

[After bitter exposure to the world around, the poet shuts off from the world].

To world at large I’m closed today,
My heart’s window I’ve closed today.

Sometimes came in through it cool breeze
That lulled me and put me to ease.

WOMAN’S CHALLENGE

[Woman, subdued for centuries, confronts man.]

Man ought to respect woman,
Else he loses respect.
Disrespect to womanhood
Renders manhood suspect.

Why shout at me or hit me?
Why on me all this try?
Come and be a man indeed,
Look at me in the eye.

What foul deed have I done?
