I've been writing for fun and passion since I was 7 or 8. I'm now 31 (do the math). Yet these past few months is when I really starting taking it seriously. Previously I had only done it for my own pleasure without any real goal. I knew one day I wanted to be published but I never tried to make that happen. Now I am.

I have submitted stories for contests (to Writer's Journal), got hired to do freelance article writing (for Suite 101), and have submitted (and won!) contests here on writing.com. Each review, rating, and helpful words I receive makes me a better writer.

I've always considered myself a good writer to be honest. It was the one thing I knew in my heart I could do well. But after writing.com and some of the suggestions, feedback, ratings, and reviews, I have had my ego boosted and know that people out there enjoy my work. I even had someone call a poem that I wrote "a masterpiece". Such an outstanding compliment on a poem I didn't think was that great. It only goes to show you that people's opinions and tastes are different. It gives me the motivation and confidence to submit my work for publication. Thanks to you all!
