| It was a great day to be alive today! | Entry #503822 |
I love Mondays. I do. I'm off on Mondays which means I have a whole day to spend with my wife and kids. It's wonderful. Today was no exception. After Michelle went to work Sunday night, I sat up reading. I finally decided at 3:40am that I would put my book down reluctantly and go to bed.
I got the kids off to school and Michelle came home. We talked about lots of stuff and not just bills! With her having NO sleep at work Sunday night (though it is supposed to be a sleep shift), she got in bed with me to take a nap. I sang to her until she fell asleep and then even though I was tired myself I decided to finish my book- which was awesome! It's called Lessons and it's by Kim Pritekel. As soon as I finished it, I got up and e-mailed her to tell her what I thought (and she sent me her link on myspace). This novel was one of my things that I bought with my Amazon.com gift card I won in the writing contest.
When Michelle got up, we went grocery shopping- and how! The entire back of the truck was full of grocery bags. When the boys came home from school, we went down to the river so they could catch tadpoles and other little slimy creatures and get incredibly muddy. And happy. Then we walked a trail- ending up being 6 mi by the time we walked back to the Durango. I did the Good Mom thing and carried Zach on my back about the last quarter or so of the mile. His feet gave out on him. You can't imagine how heavy 45 pounds is to walk with. And hell, I was pretty proud of myself for being able to do it.
I fixed dinner when we came home, watched some TV with my beautiful wife and then spent an hour with Zach uninterrupted (for Valentine's Day, each boy got a coupon booklet I made them with a coupon for 1 hr uninterrupted with Mom. I did this because I don't get to spend near enough time with them as I would like). It was so much fun. We talked, played, wrote a story, and he showed me how well he can write. He wrote all of our names (even spelling the Mich of Michelle's name with no help). He told me when he grows up he wants to be a doctor, daycare teacher, chemist (though he didn't know the word for it), Biologist (though he thought it was called a model until I explained what a model was), writer, photographer, and grocery store cashier. Yeah, he's very eclectic. Just like his mommy.
I got the opportunity to sing him to sleep tonight, read stories, play with the boys, hold them, and just enjoy my family. If I can ever get my schedule at work changed, I promise to never take it for granted again.
It was a good day.
Peace,
Angie
