Just some of my ramblings. Careful when you enter my mind, it can be a dark place.

Praising the hypocrites?Entry #559927
Okay, so I'm not going to say a lot about it because I could really get up on my soapbox. But let me just vent here what I couldn't at work due to a couple of factors, the main one being that I wasn't being heard anyway.

There was a discussion among a couple of people I work with regarding politics and the upcoming election. It was stated basically that liberals were bad people because everyone could just do whatever they wanted to. And that we need a Republican in office so that there would be harsher penalties and someone who led a moral life. Okay, so I'm sure immediately you know which soapbox I'm about to hop upon.

I listened and felt my irritation rising. Finally I turned around and said, "The Republicans that have harsher penalties and stronger 'moral' lives are the same people who are against gay marriage and gay people in general. We have Bush in office right now and what's happening? He's sending our Americans over to a country to fight a war that isn't ours to fight in which his father began and killing our citizens. But his big concern is that gay people are bringing defamation to the sanctity of marriage. And any decision that they make like that directly affects my family and my children."

Of course nothing was said from them regarding that except, "I don't care what anyone's sexual preference is but..." and continued on about how taxes would be raised if a Democrat gets in office. I would like to state for the record also that I ride that line of Liberal and Democrat. I am against abortion as a method of birth control but believe a woman has a right to choose, in particular cases especially. I am against the war and for the troops. I am for gay marriage- not civil unions but marriage. I am for the death penalty and harsher sentences for sex offenders and child murderers. I am for people's civil rights being upheld.

I wonder if these women who are preaching for Republicans and the hypocrites running the country would feel the same way if it were their rights being compromised? What if they suddenly couldn't get married, have benefits, or see a dying spouse in the hospital because their relationship wasn't recognized? What if they were constantly told by the media that who they are, the very core of them, the way they were born is wrong. Immoral. Disgusting. Deviant. What if funerals of their loved ones were picketed? Would they still be supporting the hypocrites in glass houses then?
