Rental Cars...Entry #611405
Today I took my poor, battered Saturn L200 to the body shop to be patched up from the accident of last Monday.  My insurance covers a rental car so Enterprise came to get me.  They brought a Highlander.  It was clean, inside and out, but it hurt so bad to get into as I am still so stiff and sore from last Monday's accident.

Once inside, it wreaked of stale smoke.  By the time I rode the mile back to their office, my throat was closing, my asthma was starting up, and it had touched off a migraine which had been lurking in the background.  They brought up a pretty gray Chrysler 300; we walked around the car, signed all the papers, discussed the insurance.

"We ask that you refrain from eating and drinking in the vehicle," the well-dressed lady said.  I nodded as best I could, got in, closed the door, got out, and went back into the office... SMOKE.

They asked if I'd like the Highlander and of course I refused because it was just as smokey.

They took the keys and sniffed a few other cars.  Finally one girl asked, "Can you drive a mini-van?"

When I answered in the affirmative, they brought up a new Dodge Grand Caravan... I hate those things!  My son almost died in one of them, but that's a different story for a different day.  (Remind me to tell you about that sometime.)  At least it didn't smell like smoke and my now going-on-sixteen-year-old son wouldn't be using the build in car seat, so I figured it would be okay.  I was just happy to get a car that didn't smell of smoke!

So, my pressing question of the day is:

If they tell you not to eat or drink in a rental car, why do they allow you to smoke in one?

I'd much rather smell food or see a stain than smell smoke and see a burn.  I'd also think it would be much easier to get rid of the food smell and clean up a spill mark than remove the odor of smoke or repair a burn in the upholstery.  I've eaten in my car before and unless I leave wrappers in with the windows closed, it doesn't smell the next time I get in.  I've also spilled things in my car and a little upholstery cleaner is all you need to get out a stain, if the spill even leaves a mark.  Like I said... the pressing question of the day.  Hmmm...

Have a good one!
