Thoughts of MumbaiEntry #621686
Mumbai, India... when I first heard of the terrible tragedy there, I couldn't help but think how much the world had lost in the deaths of so many.  What talents, skills, and knowledge had been permanently and prematurely taken from mankind?  All these ones whose only crime that day was to be where they were.  How their families' hearts must ache for them.  Are they filled with rage and hatred for those who perpetrated such horrific acts?  Do they mourn in silence, unseen by the majority as the world moves on about them?

And what of those who survived?  How can one be truly joyful in the face of catastrophe?  How will they get past the images burned into their minds and the guilt of surviving while so many others perished?

I worried with each report I heard.  I worried more would die needlessly; more lives would be snuffed out, their skills and talents squandered because of narrow-minded hatred and nationalistic fervor.

And as I worried, my heart cried out for my dear friends... friends I've never seen, never touched, never met... friends I know only through this online community as brilliant, talented writers whose words have brought me to laughter as well as to tears.  How did they and their families fare through these tragedies that struck their country, so close to their homes and their hearts?  How are they?  Are they healthy?  Are they well?  Are they mourning the losses and wondering why?  So much distance separates us but we are more alike than we are different.

My faceless friends... your words are etched upon my heart and mind.  Were it possible to reach out across this enormous globe on which we live to embrace you, to comfort your hearts and ease your minds I would do so in an instant.  My dear friends in India... I send you my best and warmest wishes in hopes you and your loved ones are well after this tragedy.  Write soon, my dear ones, and know that the community we share in my heart knows no national boundaries, no prejudice of color, race, or religion.  We are more than the sum of our parts; we are the sum of our hearts

Be well and write soon to ease the worry I have in my heart for you.
