Well, here I am… been feeling slightly “off”/”under the weather” for a couple days now. Not so much that I can’t function, but just enough to feel blah. Yesterday I had my suspicions and today I confirmed it – I have the Egyptian Flu. Well, certainly isn’t the first time, so I’m sure I’ll be just fine. Meanwhile the weekend is nearly here. House isn’t on the market, last couple pics haven’t been taken. My desk is a mess. I owe some reviews that I was supposed to get done last week, but still haven’t managed. I have plans for new drafts of chapter 1 and 3 in Hall of Secrets, but haven’t written a single paragraph this entire weekend. I feel like I have accomplished little this week. As far as I can tell, I am without diapers for my youngest. We were supposed to get diapers last night but didn’t. I don’t have a vehicle and my Husband won’t be able to get to the stores until after 2 pm (it’s 10 am). And tomorrow my Husband will be home but I have a list as long as my arm of things I’m supposed to do… including getting the house ready to show for a couple on Sat, but that list does not include my Husband’s homework, which usually fills the entire Friday and sometimes a bunch of Sat. Have prompted him to take me to a formal dance on Sat – if we can find a babysitter.
Meanwhile, I have some files on 3 ¼ floppy and on a zip disk that I would like to get access to on my main laptop. I have my glorified typewriter – an old laptop – which can read both formats, but has a hard time communicating with other computers. The zip drive I have is a parallel port and apparently doesn’t work with the printer adaptor cords and my current computer only has USB. So I’m trying to figure if I should invest in a way to get that computer to talk to others, or if I should just get the info off the disks I have and sell the drive to someone else. There are modern zip drives that work with USB, but there again, it would be an investment of improving routes of communication. I am also tempted to contact someone I found on craigslist who’s local and specializes in rescuing files from hard drives, disks, computers etc. I have a hard drive from my father, from the computer my parents had a while ago and I would love to salvage anything that’s on there – letters, documents, scanned images etc. I really am not sure what’s on there, but I hate to chance losing such files. What’s more, it may have files from the hard drive before we got that computer – if my aunt and uncle transferred such stuff over which I think they did. I would just be looking for word processor files, images and such. Currently it sits in my office and hasn’t been accessed for years. That thing even fell once, landed on my computer and gouged my spacebar to leave its permanent mark in my world, lol.
So, despite a hectic schedule and tons to do, I feel blah and overwhelmed, but still determined to push onward. Still brainstorming writing ideas and still sporadically tackling cleaning projects. Have seriously slipped with early rising… but… experience tells me that my current schedule is bound to change on both ends of the day. Late night writing time will get harder and bedtime usually gets stricter.
Well, gotta run.
