My name is Moo and I'm an addict...Entry #650503
You can rest assured that my addiction isn't to drugs (Over the counter or otherwise). I'm not an alcoholic even though I do drink and drive (soda, water or fruit juice). I don't think, as of yet, there is a twelve step program to help me with my problem. Before I tell you what I'm addicted to let me tell you the story behind this compulsion...

It started innocently enough as I was bored one night and was flipping through the channels when either my batteries in the remote died or the heavens above were sending me a hint that my waistline was becoming an equator between my feet and my head. The television stopped on an episode of "The Biggest Loser" and one of the weight-loss hints was to chew sugarless gum instead of hitting the unhealthy snacks. At this time I liked gum. A pack of gum with five sticks would last me a week or more. It was a hobby and nothing more. I started driving truck, and I wanted something to do while I was driving that would be easily kept within reach of my seat and something that I could unwrap in seconds with one hand. Everything I tried was too dangerous to do while driving. Candy required real dexterity and the calories I didn't need. Small, round fruits like grapes wouldn't stay on my lap once they were separated from their vines. The same thing with carrots or celery. I started chewing the gum as more of a recreation. Those five piece packs weren't enough any longer. The next size of gum packs are 15 pieces and I'm going through one of those in about a day and a half.

I stick a piece of gum in my mouth shortly after I brush my teeth in the morning, after each time I eat, with three meals and snacks this could be 5 times a day. Then I chew a piece of gum before each pick up or delivery. I'm afraid that all of this chewing is going to be detrimental to my jaw muscles. I'm going to look like a hamster whose holding his dinner in his cheeks until he's hungry. I've also been prone to miss the gum and bite into the inner side of my lips.

I'm not tired of chewing gum but I don't enjoy it as much as I used to except the part where I'm cruising along on the highway, roll my window down and spit the gum out. I need help with my addiction of gum chewing...
