Happy 1 Yr WDC Birthday to Me!Entry #658375
I can't believe it's been a year already. And what a year it's been - from being laid off twice, choosing to end my unhealthy relationship with my boyfriend, being displaced at Christmas due to an ice storm, the struggle to pass my securities exams in January, my struggles with my writing and trying to improve, then more recently my decision to return to school and finish my English degree in May, the ongoing struggle to build my business, and then my homelessness as of late June and the decision to end an unhealthy 12 year relationship with my former best friend. Throughout all of this has been my therapy, teaching me to make healthier choices and break free of the self-destructive patterns inherent in my life since my childhood.

Suffice to say, it's been an amazing, triumphant, and yet still somewhat ironically, disastrous year so far. Breaking through all of these barriers and challenges has been the biggest struggle of my life and I have a deeper understanding of why people prefer to keep the status quo. It's muh easier. At this point I'm still living in a homeless shelter and have been persecuted mercilessly by my former best friend for being a moocher, a snake, ungrateful and worse. Petty harassments of all kinds ensued for a time but have since been eliminated thankfully. Hopefully my daughter and I will be moving into our own place August 1 thanks to a temporary loan from my dad down south (not really my dad but loves me as if he were). My financial aid will disburse on August 17 which will allow me to pay him back very shortly thereafter. And I sincerely hope I never again have to be in this particular place again in my life.

So ultimately, it's been an amazing year on WDC, full of reviews, contests, even running some of my own activities, new friends, new goals, and life changes. I hope this next year with WDC helps me grow just as much in my writing craft, in my friendships, and in fun!

XOXOXO,

Shelly Keyes
