How does one go from being a relatively new author to being a brand new publisher? It's simple really. All you have to do is get dumped by your publisher (the publisher, also relatively new, went under and left its authors stranded), be too impatient to wait for another publisher to accept your work, and know other authors who are in the same boat. Voila! A new publisher is born. My housemate, also an author, and I decided to start our own publishing company. How crazy are we? Well, that remains to be seen.
The publishing industry is a hard place to be, not only for new authors looking to make a name for themselves, but also for the publishers themselves. Economically times are hard. The industry is changing. Some very well-established publishers are even feeling the crunch. It seemed like perfect timing to launch a new publishing house. We both have other means of income, so if it takes a while for us to get on our feet as credible publishers, that is all right. We can wait it out.
The thing is that with technology being what it is, publishing has never been easier to get into. EBooks are growing in popularity, print on demand is ready, all the players are in place, so why not? If it succeeds, that's wonderful. If it doesn't, we've lost nothing more than some time and effort. But we've learned a lot in the process. I for one, am all for learning something new every day, so I'm up for the learning experience, fail or not. Perhaps the learning is worth the price.

SOMETHNG ABOUT US:
Gypsy Shadow Publishing's founders, Denise Bartlett and Charlotte Holley, are veteran authors themselves and have worked in various aspects of the print world for decades. With experience ranging from writing short stories and poetry to full length novels, newspaper columns and reviews to news and investigative articles, Bartlett and Holley are not strangers to the written word.
Gypsy Shadow Publications will begin its journey by following the trend toward eBook publications and other innovative publishing concepts. Each of the principals has a love of and commitment to providing quality, professional, exciting works to the public. Gypsy Shadow came into being as an Indie publishing company for the purpose of giving new and seasoned authors alike a chance to shine in the world of the written word, without some of the hype and pressure of more conventional established companies.
We pledge our utmost dedication to you in publishing manuscripts that are both professionally edited and formatted as well as new and creative. We feel the publishing community affords room for new ideas, such as experimental and multi-genre stories and novels, and we encourage authors to explore their imaginations to produce concepts that have not received the acclaim they deserve.
