Motivation
This was the word that came into my mind today.  I wrote a small article for the upcoming student newsletter for New Horizons.  What it boils down to is I believe there are two primary motivations in life.  One is passion, and the other is fear.  Think about it.

Passion can be either "positive" or "negative."  Love, desire - anger, rage - or variations in between.  Fear.  Well, we all know if can take on a lot of different faces, but I believe the basis for most if not all fear is the fear of loss.  Loss of life, loss of love, loss of money, loss of reputation, loss of power, etc., etc.

Consider how our passion and/or fear control your actions.

As a writer, you need to consider the motivation of your central character before you put them out there to interact with lesser characters and his/her environment.
