The AlleyEntry #195311
Judy pulled her cloak tighter about her as she made her way down the street. The lamps had been lit, and the light shone upon the sidewalks softly, but doing little to penetrate the overall darkness. Judy’s mouth split into a smile. This is the way she liked it. She felt most comfortable in the dark.
She made no sound as she continued down the street. She had made sure that she put on her leather moccasins instead of her boots. Boots made too much noise. Tonight was not a night for noise.
Judy came to a stop when she heard whispering coming from and alleyway. The whispers sounded irritated, but not angry. She nodded to herself. This means they are both here.
Judy slid closer without making a sound. While she neared she heard a man say “What are you doing here? I thought you longer did things like this.”
“I do when promised good pay and intrigue,” a female voice said, “but what about you? Your wife would kill you if she knew you were here.”
“And yet here you two are,” Judy said from behind them which startled them both. Neither had seen her slip into the alley.
“And who might you be?” the female said.
Judy said, “I am the one who sent you two the letters you hold in your hands. My name is Judy. Pleased to meet you Frank and Larona.” Judy bowed her head to each person.
“How do you know our names?” Frank eyed her suspiciously.
“I know what I need to know. For example, I know that you two will do what I need you to do.”
Larona said, “Which is?”
“A simple task, with a large reward,” She allowed one of her pouches to slide open, revealing a considerable amount of coins.
The mercenaries’ eyes widened. Frank hand lunged for the bag, and Judy let him take it. Larona said, “You work for someone powerful, and you need someone dead.”
“You are definitely the smart one here,” Judy smiled. “Ever hear of a wizard named Zed?” The widening of their eyes indicated they had, so Judy continued, “He is amassing an army to the north. The army itself is no huge threat; it is Zed who needs to die.”
“And how could we find him?” said Larona.
“Easy for someone like you. Keep your eyes and ears open for people searching for swords.” Judy turned away and said, “If you need anything before you leave you can contact me at the Fire Dragon Tavern. Good Luck.”
“Wait, I didn’t say we would take it,” said Larona.
Judy turned around and saw Frank stirring the coins with a large finger. “I think you already have.” Without another word Judy slipped back into the darkness.
