TEARS—a semi-ghazal
[Describes the grief of a lover whose love remains unreciprocated]
Story of my life are tears,
Memories of love are tears.
As I write my love tale sad,
From my pen flow out but tears.
My youth which bubbled with zen,
Now is plagued by constant tears
That love gift I got from you
Is now soaked in gloomy tears.
No, don’t sit by me, Khalish,
My tale will soak you in tears.

* Translated from my original ghazal in Hindi, given below. For learning more about ghazal, see "WHAT IS A GHAZAL AND HOW TO WRITE IT?"  . A partial attempt has been made in this translation to adopt the ghazal style. It is partial because the translated version has refrain but lacks monorhyme, due to translational difficulties related to differential language characteristics.

AANSUU
Meri zindagii kii kahaanii hain aansuu
Mere pyaar kii ye nishaanii hain aansuu
Kissaa mohbbat ka likhne ko baithe
nikle kalam kii rawaani se aansuu
nashe mein jawaanii ke bahate the chashme
bahe aaj ujadii jawaanii se aansuu
nishaanii jo dii pyaar kii thii unhone
bhigote hain ab us nishaanii ko aansuu
kahaanii merii sun Khalish ro na denaa
tapakte hain meri kahaanii se aansuu
