CHAPTER 19
OBSERVATION OF BIRTH
Man’s calendar read June 7, 1960, as Sachem observed these events and it was to be a five-year vigil before he reached this journey back to his sacred ‘Buttes.’ So much had occurred in that time frame, he could not help but catalog these auspice moments. From the time of their arrival, the three who are one had followed a path unique and perfectly suited to the land of all learning. They had retained the, “spirit road,” and the design of their town conformed to the soul of the land. Exactly two miles after entering the land, the Southern limit of the town was encountered, and three miles further one left the limits of town. The width of the town was exactly two miles at all points along the three-mile length. This was six square miles to be used for the establishment of commercial, residential, and recreational facilities. The perimeter of the design was to be planted with native trees, shrubs, and various flora endemic to the area. This would provide a natural barrier, shrouding the existence of the town, and giving protection from wind, and dust from the surrounding agricultural industry. This area was to be maintained, and groomed as a park open for the use of the residents, and their children. The town itself consisted of eight internal triangles, the corners, which met at the city center. All eight of these triangles were contained within a street, which circumnavigated the external boundary of these triangles.
This line of demarcation defined the natural world of the park from the manufactured world of man. The four corners of this street were the start and terminus of two streets, which formed a ‘X” running uninterrupted corner to corner, this ‘X’ was the ingredient which formed the eight triangles. Running off these foundation streets, like veins of a leaf, were streets for the building of homes, schools and playing fields. Industry was to be confined to the central road through the property, with a commercial zone established for its length. Where all the streets converged in the center was an area allocated for shopping, entertainment, City, and private offices, the heart of the town. Initially, these concepts were roughly defined by the establishment of dirt roads however; even this effort resorted to the usage of engineers, to insure their exact placement.
Sachem watched these developments with a profound interest, and was amazed at the thought, and consideration involved. Early on, he decided the three who are one were guided by an internal vision of which they were unaware. A secret agenda was being fulfilled, by the founders, without their being aware they were following its dictates. Sachem could tell by the intensifying brightness of the encompassing wall of power, that the land of all learning was well pleased.
All of this work had been accomplished in a short period of months, after the time of their arrival. Even the perimeter park area had been cleared, formed, and planted. The three who are one then disappeared for approximately seven months, and Sachem wondered what their purpose was. This was made perfectly clear upon their return, for they came leading a wide cross section of people with, which to populate the town. The name chosen for this nascent community was ‘Whynot,’ selected by overwhelming acclamation. Sachem never ceased being amazed at the highly complex orchestration being used in construction of this community. In all his years, he had never known of any group of people socially partnered quite like what was happening in ‘Whynot.’
Amazed and curious he found himself often in close proximity, so he could sense every nuance of its development. In spite of the detailed efforts of this birth, Sachem began to realize it was being done in remarkable anonymity. The three who are one, with their interchangeability, and using cloaking methods of persuasion, managed to stay out of the lime light quite successfully. Sachem would be taken aback, when listening to casual conversation, to discover people really believed they had conceived this complex structure on their own. They knew there was an owner of the land and somebody had built the Neighborhood Café where all meetings were held. However, in truth nobody was aware who that person or persons were.
The initial, wave of people were young, and educated, however, to a man they were caught up in the drop out subculture so rapidly rising in prominence. They were believers of a different way, but had not fallen victim to the drug experimentation so prevalent. That is not to say they had not dabbled, just that they had not gotten lost to its siren call of abuse. Sachem watched the ebb and flow of this community, over the next four years, as people came and went until finally settling into a cohesive nucleus of approximately three thousand residents. He was highly intrigued at the method of resolution applied to individuals who failed to conform to the standards drawn up by the community. Banishment had again come to the fore, as an accepted method of enforcing the wishes of the whole. Overall it seemed the land of all learning was well pleased for at no point in time was he required to lend a hand in its defense.
Sachem reviewed these thoughts, and more, from his aerie high in the ‘Sutter Buttes,’ amusement, yes, but curiosity, and anticipation were the feelings most prominent. Yes, this was truly an adventure to treasure. He thought of his acolyte now back with his friends and wondered at their progress. He possessed all the basics of direction, but knew he had no idea how it was to be accomplished. Thus, he could not help but wonder, and try different scenarios, in hopes of seeing the path. This, as he knew it would be, was all to no avail. As this was not his job, he knew the answer was not his to find. Nevertheless, it helped to pass the time and so he tried another idea, which like the others, ran into a dead end, and He watched.
CHAPTER 20
FULL CIRCLE
Sleep had come for the three conspirators like separate spirits. I had fallen instantly into its arms and sank into the depths with an innocent conviction of trust. No visions or doubts haunted the restful realm he attained, and his waking was accompanied by a relaxed feeling of rebirth. For Me there had been several hours of battling demons and dragons all seeking to tear his new awareness asunder. The dream-filled arms of sleep, which finally claimed him, tossed him like a ball from one scene to another. Changing, hostile plays, with each act a challenge for survival. Upon waking, he felt the weight of responsibility, for it was he who must find the path for securing the sanctity of their path. The beauty of the vision was marred by the vulnerable areas it could be breached, and he knew this concepts very life and longevity rested in his hands. Groggy and red eyed he headed for the shower in hopes of flushing his fatigue down the drain.
Of the three, Myself struggled hardest in his attempts at sleep. Every word, of his time with Sachem, was studied with detail in hopes of finding the path. He tossed and turned like a ball on the surging waves. Each moment of insight but a glimmer instead of the burst of light, he sought. Frustration, fatigue and finally a sleep, torn by questions without resolution, cradled his seeking soul. No feeling of rebirth met him on his waking hour, only a fresh barrage of need to know. How could he market a product he could not see? For the first time in his life, questions of his ability haunted his thoughts. All he had ever sold were things he had known of in detail prior to his effort. Why was this so difficult? His thoughts were splintered, and his body weary. “Please open my eyes,” he prayed, “my friends, and the world wait my joining this cause.” He knew he was supposed to fill the third set of shoes on this journey, but could not find his socks, so to speak. As he exited his room, his thought went to the transcript of I and Me’s work, and he hoped against hope the needed key resided in their pages.
Entering I’s room he was greeted by both of his friends ready for his arrival. Concern filled both sets of eyes at the haggard appearance of Myself entering the room. It was I who spoke first, “Myself you must let go, for your thoughts so fill your head there is no room for insight to enter. Let us eat, relax, and then we shall leave you to study our work. If you simply read it without seeking, it is my belief clarity will be achieved?”
Me added his support by informing Myself, of his own coming to the light, “Myself, it was in exactly the manner I has described that the truth opened my eyes. Both of us have complete confidence you too shall see that, which you already know. Don’t worry about it, just remember all things in their time not ours.”
With this, all three headed for the café, and much needed sustenance along with a few jolts of coffee. This morning in Eureka brought a preternatural silence punctuated with intermittent plaintive moans of the foghorns. A blanket of mist was so thick it was impossible to see beyond a few feet. A sense of isolation, and removal from the world at large, shrouded the motel. The café, so close, was invisible, and the three navigated on instinct the course to its door. Myself took this as an omen that nothing else was to exist but his search for the answer. When he stated these thoughts to his friends, they acknowledged his words as an apt analogy. “Open the door and it shall enter,” they instructed. Silently they entered, and ordered their preferences.
Conversation was minimal and consisted of subjects, on any topic but that, which concerned them all. Myself felt himself relaxing and enjoying the remarks of his friends. He could not tell them of his feeling of gratitude, for their confidence freely expressed in him. He resolved to let it be, and felt his first sense of confidence in his task. Yes, that which is supposed to be will be, and my chore is to open the door so it may enter. Thus armed with food, and resolve the three paid their bill and made their way back to I’s room.
Immediately I set out to organize the transcribed pages in the correct order of their presentation, and Me set up the tape recorder, and tapes in a like order. Me did not worry at Myself’s ability to operate the equipment, as his sales background involved regular usage of the day’s technology. Completing these tasks I informed Myself of the intention of he, and Me, to give Myself adequate time to thoroughly study the information. Me added, “There is nothing here you have not already heard and are fully aware of. The answer is in plain sight, but I will admit it is damn hard to see. Conditioning, that is the problem as I see it, so give up your existing mindset, and look at what can be.” Conditioning, training, nurturing, yes, Sachem made these a key part of our talks, so you have my promise I will seek outside of my existing structure. Wish me luck,” he requested. With warm words of confidence, and final good lucks, I, and Me left him to his endeavors.
Outside, Me questioned, “Do you think he is close enough for that information to help?” I’s reply intrigued him as he was told, “My sleep was uninterrupted, and like a rock, no dreams or visions invaded its depth. This is so unusual I’ve decided that purity itself was a vision.”
“You are going to have to explain that statement, my friend,” inquired Me. “Well my assumption is if there were anything to worry about, my sleep would have been filled with warnings. As no warnings were needed, that was a kind of vision itself, a vision of success, a no vision, vision. What do you think of that,” was I’s response.
Me shrugged and said, “It is beyond my understanding how you deal with your method of receiving information. Time will tell, and I will rest easier thinking you are right. What are we going to do with our time while we wait?”
“Just go with the flow, I’m sure plenty will present itself, it always seems to.” was the answer. With that, they headed for the car.
CHAPTER 21
CONCATENATION
Myself thumbed the piles of pages, and could not help but wonder, could he grasp the information in his state of fatigue? “Well,” he thought the only way to know is to get started. For the next several hours, he was deeply immersed in the words on the paper. Here and there, certain phrases triggered the feelings he was dancing on the edge of cliff. So close to flying, and yet so removed. Reading the last page, and placing it in its proper order, he felt excited by a sense of indefinable awareness.
His friends had informed him there was nothing in the works that he did not already know, and that had been true. Yet there was so much there that was not visibly represented, things, which strummed his chords of insight. At the periphery of his mind, a dim glow seemed to pulse, and he hurried to press the play button on the recorder.
As the opening conversation played out and I’s monotone dissertation began, Myself felt an intense sense of lassitude settle over him. Shaking his head rapidly, in an effort to wake his thoughts, he found himself sinking into sleep. “I’d better turn this off so I’ll be able to start at the right spot, because I’m going to have to take a nap.” This thought was his last conscious awareness, as he nodded into a light slumber. For two and half-hours the tape spun it’s tale into the slumbering mind of Myself’s, slumping figure. The slapping sound of the tape, as it spun aimlessly in its completion, snapped up Myself’s head. His first thought was of disappointment in himself, for failure to pay attention. He had let his friends down…Yet, wait a minute. His fingers rethreaded the tape and he pressed rewind…Where was that section?
For several minutes, he rewound, and stopped, pressed play, and then tried again. Where was that part? His thoughts kept whispering he knew he had heard something extremely important but not, what it was. Repeatedly he sought, until he heard these words issue from the recorder. “Three factors of our founding make this concept possible. These are personal freedom,” in rapt attention, he listened as the tape played on, “free enterprise, and private ownership. Backbone features of our nation and thus they have been impossible to change. Therefore, the campaign of confusion needed to be enacted. Personal freedom gives us the right to assume responsibility for our own future, nobody else can tell us what we must do for our survival and security.
Free enterprise, this gives us the right to found, to own, and define, how our businesses apply their products, and services. Private ownership says we can own our lives, businesses, homes, property, all aspects of what is needed to insure for our posterity and ourselves financial security. Due to these three rights, there is no need for Government programs, or corporate retirement funds, for our every future concern to be met. Further these three rights guarantee we have the power to reassert our voice into the formula of society. We can redistribute the wealth of our nation back down the population percentage, where all shall be rewarded for their service, and there is an opportunity for every citizen to participate. These three rights are so important they give us the ability to cure most of the social maladies of our nation. They shall provide equality of education, medical services, and lifestyle, for the majority, and this is how it is supposed to be. They are so important they make it possible for us to make our economy, and nation, so strong it shall take decades for all else to catch up. Realize this shall spread to all economies of the world, just as the right to vote, and other concepts founded in America have, but to the swiftest shall go the race. Even more important for our image, and relations with other nations, we shall be recognized as the honorable nation on earth. It will provide the opportunity to eliminate divisiveness, and conflict, a true platform for communication. No longer will we be viewed as users but rather as givers. Our nation shall no longer need to feel responsible for others failure to match up. This places everybody’s responsibility squarely on their own shoulders.”
He pressed stop, and sat there in stunned silence. Was it possible? An idea of such impact was playing in his head, and he let it run its course. He shook his head in amazement, and spoke aloud, “There is truly a door and how simple, and perfect. If this isn’t what I was talking about, then he had better get ready for a better idea.” His thoughts rushed over aspect after aspect, and every thought brought about a barrage of amazement. “There is not a darn thing that can be done to stop this,” again speaking aloud. “My God, how fair and honorable” were his first thoughts. Then the full impact hit him squarely between the eyes. “Oh, oh, just how are we to present this without getting shot.”
At first, he was shocked at such a thought, and then he faced the facts. I have to be better than I have ever been if I want to sell this idea withoutdrawing attention. If I can survive long enough to include enough people, without being noticed, it will be like a pandemic without a cure. Oh yes this is exciting, a changed world, and all that is needed is careful planning. In his excitement, he had lost track of time, and was surprised when he noted the darkening sky. Hum, the whole day has passed, and it just seems like the blink of an eye. He wondered about his friends, what were they doing?
CHAPTER 22
MARCHING ORDERS
I, and Me had driven North on the winding costal highway. Passing signs for the Samoa Cook House, through Bayside, and on towards Arcata. Once through Arcata, they decided to take highway 299 east to Blue Lake, before stopping. Their conversation was held to light comments concerning the beauty of the area they traveled. Neither felt any need to address their mutual objectives until the right moment. Pulling into Blue Lake, they bought some soft drinks, and searched out a restful picnic area in which to stretch their legs, and begin their discussion.
Me was first with the question foremost on both their minds. “Do you think Myself will see the door?” he asked. I gave great consideration to the question before his response. “There is a very high likelihood,” he began, “we three are linked by some invisible bonds and based on that fact it is very possible he too will see as we did. I do not know why I feel this way but I’m very sure it is important that he find his own way to this insight. If we were required to lead him to this realization I’m quite sure that would foretell our failure.”
Me mulled over this thought for a moment, and then agreed with the conclusion. “There is no logical reason for this impression, but I’m convinced you are right,” he said in support.
I added, “Maybe this is important in order to demonstrate the ideas validity…what I’m trying to say is, if three people, regardless of their closeness, can see this invisible door, then it should be possible to make it visible to everybody.”
“Interesting hypothesis,” Me conjectured, “and as likely as any I’ve developed. It is also probable that Myself’s, discovery, of this on his own, is required for him to develop a sound method of promotion.”
“Hmmm,” reflected I, “That makes a lot of sense. Whatever is happening here, we had better have our ducks in a row, or we will be the ones left holding the bag. That, I am quite sure is a situation we would rather not have to deal with.”
“I, we both realize what we are dealing with here is fair, honorable, and very necessary for the future of mankind. Nevertheless, let us face facts, and admit the system extant is going to throw everything possible in our path to defeat this idea. If Myself comes to these realizations as we have, then he will have a mighty challenge before him.
My task is simple compared to what he will face, and as for your position, it is ninety percent accomplished by the fact of your discovering the path in the first place. Of course, your constant vigilance is vital for guiding the entire project, and to insure we stay the course. However, after our initial input, the onus shall fall upon Myself. As for my feelings, let it be noted, I have a great deal of admiration for the work he will be required to perform.”
“You know since you pointed out Myself’s, financial advantage over us, I’ve been looking at him in a different light. I have concluded he truly is a remarkable person. He is obviously very good at what he does, and yet the by-product of his efforts has almost no meaning to him. Money, possessions, praise, fame these things have no bearing on his actions. The best way to describe it is, he does what he enjoys for the joy, and all else is secondary. Remarkable, that is a very apt word when speaking of him, and I’m proud to say he is my friend.”
“You have my complete and hardy agreement on that statement, but my further opinion is I’m proud to call both of you my friends,” Me, stated. I was abashed as he turned to Me, and placed an arm around his shoulder, “My friend it can only be said, we are three of the luckiest people in the world. We have been friends, since birth, and that is an awesome fact in itself. But the fact is it grows stronger, and more fulfilling every second, minute, hour, and day and that is my honest opinion.”
Me felt the depths of their bond, and was truly thankful. True friends, so rare in ones lifetime, can level the impact of life’s vagaries in a way nothing else comes close. I interrupted this introspection by summing up both of their thoughts. “Well don’t you think its time we stop hiding from reality and go find out how our friend is making out,” he declared. Me chuckled at the comment and replied, “It is nice to know I’m not alone in my trepidations, and it couldn’t have been better stated. Let’s try to maintain a positive outlook, and refrain from doubts, after all Myself is a remarkable man. I’m confident he will complete the circle.”
Loading their trash into the car, they silently began the drive back to Eureka, and their friend. At about the halfway point of the return Me quietly said, “Are you familiar with the story of that ‘Tucker’ fella? You know the one who, twenty years or so back, tried to build a better automobile. It rather seems like we should reflect on what happened to him, and his efforts, for we are facing the same system, and people. Perhaps we can learn from the efforts used to destroy his dream of a better way.”
“That is an excellent idea, and I’m sure you realize this falls exactly into your realm of expertise…Research!” I commented. “After we checkup on Myself why don’t you go the library, and see what is available?” Silently, Me nodded his head, and accepted the time was now, and they were planning their campaign. Apparently it had been accepted Myself would find the path, and their journey had started.
CHAPTER 23
PRESTO CHANGE-O
Both I, and Me tried to hide their concern as they reentered the City of Eureka. The thoughts of both were on their missing partner, “What if he doesn’t see, what we will do, how will we continue?” These thoughts held silent, for fear of creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. As the Sun slowly descended into the depths of the Pacific, they cautiously wound through town, seeking their motel.
Pulling into the parking lot both friends exhaled the air they had held in anticipation. “Well sink or swim,” expounded I opening his door. Both exited the car, and edged towards the door of I’s room. This they knew would be where Myself would pursue his studies of their materials. As three pair of eyes met, the friends burst into laughter. No conversation needed to pass between them for it was very apparent Myself had seen.
“Be careful of what you wish for, it just might come true,” were the first words spoken by Myself. I and Me merely nodded their approbation. I added, “When you set out to eat a lion, beware you’re not on the menu.” Myself, chuckled, and informed his friends, “We have truly grabbed a tornado by the tail, and we have a great deal to discuss before we dare let go. I, when you described your vision as very simple you could not have been more right. It is a glaring opportunity, and I am astounded nobody has taken advantage of it before this.”
“Now I’m going to temper those remarks by saying I’ve never seen a more complex or daunting chore in my life. The simplicity of the concept is belied by the complexity of our society. If we are naïve, and ignore all implications, we will be ground up and spit out. Future generations will see nothing more than a footnote marking our efforts. For our purposes, right, or wrong have no part in the equation. We have stepped on to a path ruled by, win or lose, perhaps better-said win, or die. If you look at our resources, it is clearly apparent the forces arrayed against us have all the advantage. We enter the battlefield as a force of four against the world, or more plainly a chore equal to one of us declaring war on the Soviet Union. Fairy tales luck, right is might, and all such dreams must be left out of it. Planning, planning, planning, and when we have done that plan some more.”
I and Me looked at each other, and the question that passed between them was clear, “Who was this person speaking?” the Myself they had left to ponder their notes, now appeared a gigantic dynamo of resolve. “Are you saying we should forget our idea, or are you saying we can win?” they asked. Each of them realized they had passed the torch of leadership to Myself, and awaited his response.
Myself paused several seconds before answering their question and finally replied. “We are going to kick their ass.” He went on to inform I and Me they needed to read his notes.” Curious they questioned what these notes were concerned with, and Myself answered, “These are the notes of what I was taught on the trip I took. You will see the correlation, and symbiotic nature of them. It is my belief you will come to realize this whole situation is tied to destiny and we are merely tools.” I’s head snapped up in realization, and he asked, “What do you mean there are four of us against the world?”
“Every answer about our structure and reason are in these notes so read them, and then I shall answer any questions at that time,” Myself left no room for debate.
Far into the night, the lights burned, and voices muttered, while I and Me read. They were shocked by the revelations of Myself’s notes, and their obvious correlation to their own notes. The fourth member was clearly defined when Sachem declared his involvement. In the early hours, having completed Myself’s notes, I, and Me shook their heads in amazement. Me was first to speak, “It is quite apparent we are leaves before the gale, and all the while we assumed it was us driving the bus. Why, from the very earliest acquisition of I’s property we have been on this course without knowing it.”
“Amazing simply amazing, where, shall we go from here?” was I’s contribution. Further stating, “We don’t have the resources or tools for a task of this magnitude.”
“I, your earlier chiding of the two of us for our naïve declaration concerning bombs, and guns was perfect in its accuracy. However, that does not mean, we have not been given far more potent weapons, for accomplishing this goal. Did you take note of the final saying about victory and patience?” inquired Myself. “Well that saying caused my thoughts to take a different course, and I’ve some very detailed thoughts on how this can be done, but now is the time for gathering of our minds, and rest because tomorrow we begin to found a new nation.” All the questions of I and Me were to no avail as Myself was adamant they wait.
CHAPTER 24
FOUNDATION OF STONE
Considering the early morning hour of their retirement, one could assume a late morning awakening would be in order, but such was not the case. All three accomplices were awake, and wired with anticipation. This was the day, and everything pointed to auspices beginnings. Exiting their rooms, each was hammered with the perfection of the morning. The sun seemed to double in its brightness and the blue of the sky could only have been created for this occasion. A gentle ocean breeze wafted the tangy scent of salt and seaweed to their senses. A perfume combined with a soft touch of fragrance borrowed from the panoply of blooming wildflowers casually scattered just to glorify this moment. The earth seemed to give its unqualified approval of the three conspirators, and their intended foray into the realm of reason, and balance. The youthful essence of their new life added a buoyant spring to each step, and a keen awareness of a new visual acuity into the machinations of man.
As though it had been discussed, no conversation of their crusade issued forth in their stroll to the nearby café. Waving occasionally, to local people they had come to recognize, they entered the café, and took seats. Hearty, described their appetites and each ones order reflected this condition. This was so apparent even the waitress, who generally served them commented, “Eating enough this morning to fight a war,” was her casual aside.
Not understanding, she concluded her words were extremely clever, as all three customers erupted in heartfelt mirth. The other customers watched amazed as the three friends devoured their food. None could know it was haste, which drove this consumption not hunger. All three were driven to get to the discussion at hand.
Having satiated their need for sustenance, all three hurried for the security of I’s room in which to begin their conspiratorial plans. Seated, the three looked to each other in an effort to determine where or who should begin. It was Myself who took the lead shocking his two compatriots by stating, “To be very frank there is almost no possibility of my being able to promote this concept. Holding up his hands to silence his friends protestations he continued, “To promote this concept would require a great deal of individual exposure, and dissemination of our intent. This will undoubtedly lead to awareness, by the wrong people, of our goals far before we are ready. We are all aware of the consequences of this happening, so I am putting every resource into a method both invisible, and as foolproof as possible. Victory, and patience, the final lesson related to me by Sachem, and now I understand why.”
As Myself continued talking, a remarkable transformation was occurring; a changing of the guard was clearly taking place. No longer was I the center of this hurricane, rather all eyes was turned to Myself, and his leadership. This happened so naturally, and within the framework of their desired result, it was all, but invisible. I and Me noted the change without even considering what was happening. Both would freely admit they were in a presence heretofore unseen by either of them. Before them, was not the ineffective, carefree friend they had come to expect, but a powerful, driven salesperson bent on victory? It was very apparent he had given their goal great consideration, and was prepared to take whatever steps, and time required to succeed.
Myself continued his training seminar by stating, “While we have not discussed this goal I’m convinced we are on the same page. Let me define our joint vision, and if I am in error at any point please do not hesitate to interrupt me, and say so. It appears to my mind we are all seeing the fact we can buy back our power, and security through the application of our rights, and freedoms guaranteed under the American Constitution. Is this a fair assessment of where we stand?”
Both I, and Me rather dazedly nodded their assent. “All right, I’m glad we have finally brought that into the open. We have all known that this was our joint conclusion but stating it aloud puts to rest any remaining doubts about our togetherness. I, it is remarkable you have led us to this endeavor, and that is the most vital step of all. This must be understood in-order to keep our perspective about cause, and effect. In the mind of the everyday man this could be put into simpler description by saying, I found the seed, Me, will tend the cultivation, and care, and my job is to take the product to market. As long as we each play our part, and not try to involve ourselves, to much, in each other’s areas, we have a good chance for success. That is not to say we will not offer insights, and all assistance required or asked for, but primarily we need to stay in our realms. Is this what we all see, and if not feel free to correct me?” I, and Me voiced their total agreement with Myself’s analysis, and indicated he should continue.
“Earlier it was stated this could not be sold based on the concept, due to some very simple logic. Before explaining my plan for the establishment of our goal, let us clarify my reasoning for making that declaration. For the individualized approach of presenting this concept it would be necessary for us to have the resources of one of the ’Wall Street Journals” one hundred wealthiest people. With that kind of resources, this could be done in the blink of an eye. It is clear to us all, that is not the case so we are forced to subterfuge and patience. We have been told this concept is viable due to the founding of America, and the guarantees this granted by way of personal freedom. We further agree this was magical occurrence giving humankind a second chance to establish their standing of equal worth. No one will argue with the fact this propitious occurrence forever altered the world and changed people’s basic status forever.”
“Can we also state we have no desire to bring America down, rather we wish to complete the design by adding wings, which for all time shall ensure her preeminence. How do you view my statements thus far?” I and Me both concurred with Myself’s analysis one-hundred percent, and so stated. This dynamic display acting out before their eyes mesmerized them. I could not help reflecting on his impression, of Myself, held just a few days earlier. It was very shocking to realize how erroneous his impressions had been. Me, who had access to more financial information, was more understanding of Myself’s abilities yet he too was astounded at how short sighted he had been. Both I, and Me were abashed to think just yesterday that were concerned Myself might fall short in his vision to see the path. It was very clear he not only saw it, but also understood its implications far more thoroughly than they.
“Please continue”, they implored much like children being read a bedtime story.
“This is great,” was Myself’s response giving a glimpse of the person both his friends had always known. For a moment, he appeared like a child with a new toy, and then he continued. “In light of everything, I have been saying it is my impression we need a completely different sales plan. That being the case I have designed a method, which is capable of achieving our goals. Its draw back is that we may never see the successful results of our efforts. This bothers me at a personal level but at a logical level it is the goal we must keep in sight.” All three nodded their acceptance of this proclamation and Myself continued. “My reasoning for this approach will become clear when you consider some facts about why we are here. I’d be willing to bet you both hold the belief this adventure began a few days ago with the two of us asking I to see a path for changing the world.” Confused I and Me looked to each other and then stated, “Of course that is exactly what started this journey.”
“Not so, we have been in this battle in excess of five years.” Incredulity shown on the countenances of his friends and they queried, “What are you talking about?” Myself settled himself more comfortably in his chair and explained, “I, from the time you received that strange inheritance our lives have been a blur of activity unheard of in our prior existence. Can either of you disagree with that?” Reflective looks of dawning awareness were their only response and Myself continued.
“There are no accidents; all things are founded in cause and effect. This is exactly what has been going on in our lives for some time. For some reason we do not understand I you were handed a piece of property with no knowledge of who did this, or why this was done. As to the property itself, its history can only be viewed as mysterious at best. When we went to view your boon, you came to a decision to found a town and community based on a structure never before discussed by any of us. In silent acceptance, the two of us went along with your vision, and we have accomplished a remarkable beginning. We were building a foundation for a nation is what I am telling you. From the moment of that inheritance, we have been walking this path without knowing it. That is my second reference to founding a nation so let me clarify why this is important.”
“Following the remarkable founding of America this nation represented such hope for the losers of the Olympics of life, that the whole world slowly began adopting the values, and methods of America. A love, hate, relationship developed, which would be confusing without our insight why. That insight is the partial structure of her founding which only considered the highly competitive. The world still had a system, which divided society into strata of value, a system, which claimed equality but never quite addressed the full implications of that claim. This was a system, which miraculously proclaimed freedom but did not provide it for all. This was not intended, but a by-product of the reality of competitive inequality, a simple oversight, but one with glaring repercussions. These repercussions manifested themselves in the replication of levels of society divided into upper, middle, and lower class individuals. Basically, what has occurred from this oversight, regarding competitive inequality, is a return to the old order with one addition. That addition is a broad based middle class, a new factor in human society. This filled a void in the souls of millions of people for centuries, for it allowed a life style to evolve never before hoped for.”
“If one more step had been taken, we would not be sitting here having this discussion. That simple step was the guaranteeing of their future. Steps were taken to do just that when the people organized unions to back their demands for present and future benefits. If you read the history of these events, you will realize a terrible fact. The rulers, so to speak, were very aware of the flaw I have described, and were willing to do anything to keep it hidden. However, far more terrible than that is the clear implication this new ‘Government of the People’ was already in thrall to the elitist upper few. This was displayed repeatedly when our troops were sent against us in order to protect the rights of the upper few. The welfare of the majority was literally fired upon on by the very Government we support through our taxes and votes. Why we allowed this to happen is best defined by Sachem’s teachings regarding training and the importance of nurturing. Our basic instincts had been trained to bow our heads to a supposed superior being and regardless of our implied freedom; we did not truly believe it.”
“Thousands of years of subservience were so ingrained we acquiesced to this abuse. We joined to unionize, but we should have joined to throw out every official in office, when this occurred. We should have expressed the freedom we were given instead of bowing to the status quo.”
“Think what this failure to react has produced. Each time we allowed this type of action against us, we further tightened the chains of benevolent slavery being woven for us. This designed shroud, so cleverly draped about our neck, was woven from deception, lies, and greed all with the purpose of maintaining this division of class. This was the same belief in ‘manifest destiny’, which had been designed to give certain people the right to rule.
We had the right to change it but millennium of training could not be overruled by a proclamation of freedom, thus, we bowed our heads, and it continues.”
Me interrupted this oration with a timely aside, “My God Myself, you have diarrhea of the mouth exactly like I. We know all this stuff, how about getting back on track.” for a moment there was a stunned silence and then uproarious laughter erupted from all three friends. Myself, somewhat abashed apologized, “I’m sorry but you didn’t need to go that far. That’s the worst thing anybody has ever said about Me.” was his comical reply. Again all laughed and Myself, embarrassed, gave his avowal to stay on track.
“Okay, where all this leads is to the fact, because of the example of America, the world changed. What I am proposing is we use I’s gift of property to found a new example. We can create a new nation existing within a nation. It will adhere to all provisions of the host nation and yet shall dance to invisible music. We slowly and surreptitiously nurture our population to accept the new order of true freedom and as it expands, we slowly develop satellite communities with like values. These can all be tied into each other through the community newspapers. Within a few generations, we should have a base of power strong enough to, openly, proclaim our structure. This is just the tip of what I’m going to suggest but how does this sound so far?” I and Me were caught up in visualizing this information when Myself asked his question.
Coming back to the present both broke into a confusion of enthusiastic conversation. Myself indicated He wanted silence and continued, “Don’t you think a break is appropriate and we can think on this information, and then get together and write our sales plan.” I and Me were in agreement, and all were excited with this new idea. Me expressed all their feeling with a simple admission, “I’m having more fun than I’ve ever had in my whole life.” Not one word of disagreement was expressed.
CHAPTER 25
ROAD OF NO EXIT
Walking to the café the three friends kept their conversation to casual comments. All three were deeply in thought on the past hours of conversation. To a man, they were filled with excitement and expectations concerning their future efforts. It was hard not to dive into these matters; however, all three were cognizant of the need for patience. None of the friends was particularly hungry but ate simply to fuel their physical needs. Upon completing their meals, they discussed what should next occur and reached a consensus. They decided it would be prudent to spend a few hours in reflection before tackling the task before them. It was not surprising when all three declared a desire to seek the curative powers of the sea. After brief discussion, it was decided to visit a local favorite called Agate Beach, and they head for the car.
A brief drive later brought them to their goal, and the next hours were spent gathering agates, and walking barefooted in the surf. Without discussion, all three jointly knew when the time for action had arrived, and silently they climbed to their car. The serenity of the respite was slowly building to an anticipatory fever of excitement during the short drive to the motel.
As they entered I’s room, all three were primed for a beginning into realms the likes of which few could imagine. “Do you think our founding fathers felt like this?” questioned Me. After brief consideration, I responded, “I’m sure their feeling was similar although they had an advantage over us. In their case, they were putting a completely new dish on the table of humanity, for them to consume. It is our job to attempt to improve on that great recipe, which has been accepted as the epitome of political cuisine for centuries.” In an attempt at humor Myself interjected, “Phew, we don’t screw around when we tackle a project do we?” This succeeded in bringing smiles to all three faces.
“Well you can’t claim you climbed a mountain unless you reached the top,” was Me’s rejoinder.
“An astute observation my obvious oaf,” I heckled his friend.
“Anymore clever repartee before we proceed climbing?” sarcastically interjected Myself. Before this could descend into a contest of one-up-man-ship, the three friends called a halt to the banter. In an effort to get in the last word Me gave his surrender with a parting riposte, “All seriousness aside lets get busy.”
“Ever the clown,” pronounced I as the three sought their chairs about the table.
Myself, instantly established himself as the point man for the coming conclave. He opened this endeavor by stating, “The Constitution of The United States is a remarkable document, and should be the foundation of our efforts. I am of the opinion that with some thoughtful additions and along with the development of community guidelines we should be set for accomplishing our goals. I have developed some basic ideas how we can accomplish these modifications, and I will put them on the table for discussion. In this manner, it will be open for all of us to participate, and triangulate our thoughts. We should then be able to cover all bases possible with maximum application of our joint insight. Do we agree?” No dissent was voiced, thus Myself continued.
“A Government of the people, by the people, and for the people,” intoned Myself. “These are very familiar words to all Americans, and as they stand, a genuine awakening of humane reasoning. However, it is my contention this is the crux of the failure to address the competitive disparity of our world. If, at our founding, as a nation, these words had been altered slightly they would have established the balance needed to ensure all people were recognized for their unique contributions.
For the establishment of our nation, let us consider the following format. ‘A Nation of the people, by the people, and for the people,’ now this slight change implies tremendous differences in that, which is accomplished for the welfare of our citizens. In order to demonstrate what I am saying there must be established an eleventh amendment to the Bill of Rights of our Constitution, and this amendment shall directly go to securing of the rights implied by this statement. I will put forth the following wording for us to debate and finalize. ‘In order to secure for all citizens of this nation the rights given in the following statement ‘A Nation of the people, by the people and for the people,’ we do declare. As citizens of this Nation each and every person is entitled to share the resources of this Nation.’
“That is to say, all citizens are holders of, and participants in the basic goods, and services, which define the formation of this Nation. These are defined but not limited to land, fuel, food, minerals, energy, and all forms of transportation, air, water, and surface, developed for the advancement of this Nations viability. Each
citizen shall hold by fact of their citizenship an equal participation in any-and-all commerce involving the development of their Nations resources. This participation shall begin at birth or establishment of citizenship, and extend for the duration of that individuals life. The proceeds of this participation shall accrue to these citizens, and their heirs, and shall at all times, be available for their future welfare. This shall be done in order to secure the comforts of life, which is their right to enjoy for their efforts on behalf of their Nations advance. As each citizen’s participation towards this goal is exact, and identical, it shall be necessary to suspend his or her holding at-the-moment of decease. This is defined as lifetime tenure in the resources of the Nation but perpetual ownership of the gains achieved.”
“Does what I’ve said make sense in line with our declared goals,” asked Myself. I and Me appeared stunned by this information, and after exchanged glances, I requested. “I’m pretty sure of the direction you are going however; it is my feeling you should provide an example of the working of this concept. Lets face facts, the average person is not going to be able to take this outlined concept and visualize its importance.”
Me, shaking his head, gave his input, “I can only assume I’m an average person because you are going to have to add more paint to the portrait before I’m able to recognize the face.” Myself needled these words by saying, “Geez, Me you could just say you don’t get it.” Somewhat abashed at Myself’s chiding, Me responded, “Well it was my intent to sound as lofty, and VAGUE as your oration my friend.”
“Okay, okay let’s see if we can clear up this approach,” Myself acquiesced. “The difference between the two statements, about people’s participation in Government, or Nation, is as follows. Government by the people establishes the citizen’s right to hold the reins of their nation; however, they do not have a right to the plowing done by that entity. Nation by the people, not only allows the citizens to hold the reins, but to reap from the ownership of that entity.” “If you look at any map of the world, you will find each nation represented, is defined by the boundaries of the land it holds. What I am implying is that the citizens of that nation should be the owners of that holding, anything less than that does not represent equality or freedom. It is the inalienable right of the citizens to possess the nation in which they reside. Their whole life shall be dedicated to work which supports, and advances that nations standing thus they deserve recognition for this effort. This difference between political participation alone, and political, and financial participation produces the development of societal disease, and stunts the overall advance of that nation. By not granting this financial participation, you are relegating these citizens to the status of being chattels of the system. This would not be so apparent, if in securing their livelihood these citizens achieved enough freedom of time, and education to apply themselves to the running of their nation. However, this is not the case due to all the reasoning we have discussed regarding benevolent slavery. Therefore, genuine freedom does not exist.
It is an illusion, which is demonstrated in your vision of freedom of the pit. An ongoing usage of the majority, by the minority, for the self-glorification of their belief in ‘manifest destiny.’ While all the time dangling the illusion of freedom like a carrot. This creates a huge disparity of resources, which further allows the influencing of the very government, which is supposed to represent the people. The peoples lack of resources and time makes genuine participation in their government an illusion at best. In support of this claim, you just need to ask yourself, how many people truly have the time or training to read all the laws, bills, and treaties passed by their government. True political freedom can only exist if the answer to this question is everybody.”
“Now, I has asked for an example of the concept I’m espousing and that is a very valuable suggestion. Let us examine the ramifications of what this will accomplish. Nation of the people, as stated, this requires all citizens to be participants in the structure of their nation. This is not restricted to the land forming the definition of that nation, but the subcategories as well. The very resources of their land are possessions of the people.”
“Alright, as an example, let view that factor of the land. This is important because this is how I have envisioned the structure of ‘Whynot’ and it is my hope you will agree. Let us establish the land as possessed by the people. For management of this land we empower our Government to oversee this holding. It must be noted that our Government is structured as a neighborhood or as I have termed it, ‘The Neighborhood of First and Last Americans.’ This Government is mandated to one purpose, that being the welfare of the citizens of this nation. As citizens, every man, woman, and child, is members of the neighborhood and this membership is secured by a monthly dues figure of twenty dollars.”
“Now, this Government has no authority to implement any changes in the structure of this nation. They are merely assigned the responsibility of managing the dictates of the people. Every person who so desires has the right to a home, farm, or land upon which to establish an industry. The exact same rules as currently exist are applied. A contract is signed for the property, and payments structured as currently would occur. The holders of this property have lifetime usage of this land, and this usage may be passed on to their heirs. The difference of this concept is apparent in the fact that at no time is this land individually owned, it is owned by the people. The usage of the land is guaranteed by citizenship, and its application to the production of goods, and services of the nation. The holder of the land makes these payments for a period of thirty years, or until retirement, at which time the payments cease. This cessation of payments shall hold until, such time as the land is bequeathed, to following generations, or is returned to the people for redistribution. Should the heirs, of the original holder, wish to continue its usage they shall again make payments along the same guidelines. Here the difference shall become apparent, and how this benefits all citizens can be seen.”
“The payments on this land shall contain a small percentage used for the purposes of maintaining the property, further the interest or profit shall accrue to the neighborhood for equal distribution to all citizens as payment for usage of their land. The balance is to be held on account for the future of the user of this land. In this way, it should be possible to return seventy percent of the payments back to the maker. This shall have all the rights of a personal savings, and be fully inheritable. When you view the impact of every home, business, farm and industry participating in this manner, it should be easy to see how one generations time is all that is needed to elevate every person to financial freedom. This equals true ownership of your nation, and acknowledgement of your value as a human being, a just compensation for that which is your human right.”
“There are advantages, to numerous to list, which come from this type of system. The most valuable is the elevation of every person to the position of ownership. This breaks down one of the key divisions of ‘manifest destiny’ by removing the lines of demarcation separating owners, and slaves.
When all have the pride of ownership, it becomes unnecessary, and unlikely crimes against property shall continue.”
“This should be apparent, because these crimes can only be considered crimes against ones self. A man may go break somebody else window in anger but it takes an aberrant person to break his own window. In a very short time, we have begun the process of establishing balance, and then we can easily deal with the aberrations. Think about the strictures, which would be most effective in dealing with these situations. No longer will the expense of imprisonment be a burden, for the best method of correction is simple banishment. Only a very limited and unbalanced segment shall need to be housed for society’s welfare and we can afford to do this honorably.
Humanely, we can provide medical, psychological, and living comforts for those who are socially ill. Balance, balance, balance this is the result and this is the goal. As mentioned earlier, in I’s taped dissertation, there is an organization, ‘The Special Olympics’ which provides this type of acknowledgement, and rewards all participants who compete, a decent and honorable approach for all humanity.”
“Now let us examine the incentive aspects of this approach, for it should be apparent incentive is a vital factor of man’s nature.”
“Wait a minute Myself, it is time to take a break and think on this,” interjected I.
Me added, “I don’t think your idea of having Government manage the resources for the people is such a hot idea.”
Myself did not hesitate in his response, “That is a very accurate assessment, and you get my complete agreement. I will have to admit, the moment that idea entered my head I have felt uneasy about it. When you disagreed just now, it became clear what was wrong. To have ‘The Neighborhood of First and Last Americans’ be part of the Government would be repeating the very thing we seek to change. The result of that path would equal trying to pay somebody else to be responsible for your life. This is the very thing we wish to avoid.”
“The idea of a membership organization to oversee the resources belonging to the people is valid as long as it remains separate and independent of Government. Further it is mandatory regular accounting checks and clearly defined by-laws must be established.”
“Well, Me the sanctity of what we devise shall be placed squarely in your court in order for you to design how it shall be structured for the peoples security,” Myself pointedly referred to Me. Me instantly averred his ongoing design of just such measures. Flipping open his ever-present composition book, he displayed pages of notes, which he explained, “All along I’ve been keeping this design in my mind. Each conversation we have had has produced these pages. Before going to sleep each night, it is my chore to chronicle every aspect of that day’s revelation, and incorporate them into the master plan I have been developing. When you have concluded your narration then I’ll complete my efforts, and present it for us all to analyze and finalize.”
I appeared inordinately pensive and Myself asked what his concern was? I was thoughtful for a moment, and then stated, “It is not clear to me how we are ever going to get the United States to accept these changes you are proposing. You have my whole hearted agreement this is what needs to be done, however, my view is there no way to achieve this goal.” Myself pointed out, “These ideas are not designed for the United States to apply. They are for the foundation of the new nation of ‘Whynot.” It is a long-term program to create a power base, an example from which to work towards our overall goal. It is designed this way for precisely the reasons you have pointed out. Change is a very slow process, and can only be accelerated by dangling rewards as incentive. If we succeed in developing a glowing example, we will have the incentive. However, another, and maybe more important ingredient must be developed simultaneously and that is a power base.”
“Currently we have approximately three thousand people living in our town, and they are the foundation of our nation. This nation must be invisible which means whatever we design here must remain with us. As distasteful, as it is we must keep this agenda to ourselves. National pride is every bit as powerful as prejudice, and when tampering with it can produce adverse and possibly violent reactions. Now we are not really forming a separate nation we merely seek to alter America’s path slightly. Any reference to a separate nation will instantly create a mind set in disproportionate and inverse relationship to our hoped for results.” Me and I mulled over these words and concurred with Myself’s analysis. Stating their support, I further reflected on a question, which was in all of their minds,
“What do you think this Sachem guy’s role is in all of this?” Myself was clearly puzzled by this inquiry and almost as if talking to himself, muttered, “My thoughts exactly. He would not have shown up if it wasn’t important but he never clarified what it was he would do. He simply said his role was to support and help implement the concept we produced. I’ve been wondering where he is and what he’s doing?”
CHAPTER 26
THE WIZARDS BIRTH
Sachem set in his aerie, and watched the comings, and goings in the land of all learning. He had maintained an ongoing line of communication with the thought processes of the three who are one. It was in this manner he had slowly awakened to the awareness of how his role was to be played out. Today was the beginning gambit in this play, and it was extremely important he act his part very well. Reflecting on this insight, he could not help but chuckle, for today he was to give birth to himself. Quite a feat by any stretch of the imagination he mused.
He had discovered it was his role to create a mysterious authority figure. One who could be quoted as the authority behind all the new concepts of the three who are one. To this end, from today on he would become “The Butte Wizard,” an all-knowing benevolent guide for the people of Whynot to follow in their quest for change. He knew these ‘drop out society members’ believed they were changing the world by their act of refusal to participate in the system extant. To him this was a ridiculous belief, and only meant fewer people were interacting in a system, which continued operating exactly as it always had. Dropping out was not change; it merely represented a form of death. This was because true change was dynamic and dropping out without an alternative path was stagnation. Stagnation was a by-product of death a festering ennui of no progress or advancement. He realized all of this was the result of simplicity. A simplicity of mind, regardless of education, which was a common denominator in these child like people indulging in this fairy tale revolution.
Well, from today forward these people would have the mysterious Butte Wizard in whom to place their faith. He would be a puppet guru playing the role of pied piper in order to reduce resistance to the plans of the one who is three. How he looked forward to this role because of its clearly active place in the accomplishment of the changes needed to fulfill humanity’s ascension.
In amazement, he shook his head, and looking up stated, “Creator you are amazing, for in all my time guarding the door not once did you allow me any thought that my role was anything but passive.” Standing and stretching he began striding towards the land of Whynot. Today was a day of decision for the people of ‘Whynot,’ and he knew they were considering a path of relinquished responsibility, one that was an example of the very things they resented. Oh, it was not a clear violation just a simple sirens cry towards the dangling carrots path of shining hope that technology could cure personal ills.
Today, Whynot was meeting to decide the placement of a traffic light on their main street. A light, which it was assumed, could correct the errors of individual’s failure of responsibility. Sure, this was the common hope of all towns and cities, which had followed this very same path. If we just had a light to tell us what to do our world would be so much better off.
Sachem knew this was a simplistic hope, and a tiny surrender to the technology god. Nevertheless, one that would begin a swirling riot of surrender in hopes each new law or added police officer would cure the original failure to accept personal responsibility. As he approached Whynot, he chuckled at their simplicity, and looked forward to the gentle chiding of their failures. Sachem’s gait was, as always, fluid and distance consuming, and thus he was soon approaching the, “Neighborhood Café.” This establishment was, and always would be the place where all of Whynot’s political business was publicly aired, and resolved.
Sachem joined the number of people entering the establishment, and was silently cognizant of the frank and amazed stares at his imposing presence. He responded to this open inspection with casual nods of acknowledgement, and smiles of greeting. Several of the citizens offered muted greetings, and acceptance and Sachem responded in kind. Once inside, his presence continued to cause a stir, and soon all were aware of his attendance. Sachem was silently amused at his effect, and took full advantage of it as he sought out the ideal seat for his purpose. He could command the attention of all in the room from this centrally located position. There he secured a seat, and to all he appeared nonchalant, and unaware of the stir he had created.
The “Neighborhood Café,” was designed for just the purpose of which it was currently being used. Upon entering, it was viewed like any Café in any town in the country. There was a linoleum counter along one-wall and linoleum tables, and vinyl benches forming booths along the other. When you threw in the obligatory Juke Box and it was any Café USA. It was a large and spacious room and an archway in the rear wall lead into the area now occupied by the residents. This room dwarfed the Café portion and consisted of many tables and chairs surrounding a slightly raised dais, which served as a speaker’s platform. It was here the citizens of Whynot met to discuss all affairs of their community.
Attendance was not only expected, it had been declared as a responsibility when these people had been selected to move here. It had been explained, that there were never to be any hidden agendas, allowed in the running of their community. It was stated what effected one could be construed to affect all. This, truth, mandated nothing could be enacted without the full knowledge and agreement of the majority. Community participation had been, from the outset, actively and enthusiastically indulged in and while not always in full agreement, they could claim full awareness of their community’s agenda. Majority rule dictated, and special interest agendas were met with polite but curt reception.
Aware of this format Sachem awaited the ensuing debate over the establishment of traffic light control in Whynot. He was not surprised when the first speaker addressed him by inquiring if he were a new resident of the community. It was time for his opening gambit and to that end he replied, “No I do not reside here, however, it has been my task, for many years, to watch out for the welfare of the land upon which you resided. In that roll, I have watched with great pleasure your progress in establishing this Community.” Sachem knew his statement would instantly generate great curiosity and a barrage of excited questions. If he handled this opportunity well he would manage to give the impression of answering while in reality he would only leave more questions. It was important this be done without these people being aware of the fact until after his departure.
If he succeeded this would create a situation in which their only recourse would be to discuss him among themselves. This type of conjecture would inevitably lead to a rise of mystery and awe surrounding his appearance and subsequent disappearance. Further, while this was occurring, it was his hope the sagacity of what he was going to say would become apparent. This then would add to the status of the new persona he was attempting to establish as an all seeing, benevolent sage. This was the role he was to play in order to distract all attention from the three who are one and the work they were to do.
Sure enough, a babble of excited talk immediately broke out, and the original speaker had great difficulty restoring order. Having accomplished this he reminded those gathered of their rules of order and promised to get all questions resolved. Then, he turned back to Sachem and questioned, “Do you think you might clarify your statement for those present?” This was the exact thing, Sachem had waited for, and he replied, “It should not come as any surprise to anyone when I say my ancestry is Native American and my tribe has resided in this area for thousands of years. It is my impression each of you was told of the unusual circumstances surrounding this lands availability for your settlement.
Now you should understand this land is holy to my people and that holiness was perceived by the overseers who followed. It was after centuries of their stewardship that the omens were correct and the land was passed on to one of you. Please do not ask what omens, for even I do not know what they were. However, as representative of my tribe it has been my responsibility to oversee the custody of this land. If it was perceived this task was being handled incorrectly I would have been required to set it straight.”
“What do you mean set it straight?”
“How long have you been watching?”
“Where do you live?” The question bombardment escalated to a crescendo until Sachem held up his arms for silence. He then appeased the crowd with information, which could only heighten their curiosity.
“Let me explain some of your questions, and then it is important you address your original purpose for this meeting. The reason I say this is I have important input for that discussion. First you may call me the Butte Wizard after my tribe’s sacred mountains and second it has been my job to watch the land for more years than you would believe.”
“Not a shred of information given,” he thought, “and the part about important input will focus them back on their original task.” Just as he hoped the original speaker stood up and said, “Well that should answer enough questions for now and I’m sure we all want to hear what important information Mr. Wizard has to offer. Sachem struggled not to laugh, as there was a chorus of agreement from the gathered citizens. He was astounded to realize he was having more fun than he could ever remember having. He also realized the need for caution lest he refocus their attention back on himself. It was vital they state their plans so he could make his great speech and then disappear.
A second member of the crowd stood and began to address the gathering. “Well we better get on with the meeting,” he began. “We are all aware of the problems we’ve been having with the eight-way intersection at the center of town. There have been more fender benders and near misses there than all the rest of our community put together. It has been suggested we install a traffic light to bring this blatant disregard of the rules under control. Everything necessary to accomplish this has been researched and all we need now is a majority agreement…
He stopped in mid sentence as Sachem arose to his full height. All eyes were focused on the imposing figure he presented, and several mouths hung agape at the sight. Without waiting for recognition to speak, his voice reverberated through the hall. “You say you are all aware of this problem?” he questioned. Surveying the nodding heads bobbing throughout the room his voice rose to a rumbling crescendo as he replied to the agreeing nods. “If you are all aware of the problem then quit doing it. Are you so weak that you require a mechanical toy to tell you what to do? Are you all willing to give your personal responsibility to a light bulb? While I myself do not drive, I have read the book and it seems the rules are very plain regarding right-of-way so just follow them.”
“Does anyone take notes at these meetings?” he added. A man at a front table raised his hand meekly. Sachem’s voice instructed, “Then write this down."
"The largest lake may be filled one drop at a time. It is the purity of those drops, which determine the purity of the lake. Can society be much different? Is not society but a collection of individuals, like drops? Before you decry your society, look to yourself and ask…Do I portray the values I ask of the whole. If not then the opportunity exists for you to single handedly change the whole by one…yourself. Just, this process results in the society we desire. We are each and everyone responsible for the society we endure.”
As the gathered throng fidgeted and each one guiltily struggled not to look into each other’s eyes, Sachem quietly glided out of the room and exited the building. By the time, anyone noticed his absence; they were completely unsuccessful in finding any trace of him. Any trace, that is, other than the burning words so carefully written upon the pages of the minutes of their meeting. Stunned silence settled over the meeting until one plaintive voice was heard, “I’m so sorry, I have been guilty of cheating us all when I drive through that intersection. You have my word it will never happen again.”
Instantly there came a tsunami of confessions and promises until a proposal was made for the quote of the ‘Butte Wizard’ to be printed up for all to study. Thus, the legend began. Soon no conversation could be heard, in Whynot, without reference to the giant Indian who could disappear at will, and who was wiser than the hills, also, they agreed no stop light was needed.
CHAPTER 27
PRIDE AND POWER
“Well, wherever he is, I’m confident he is pursuing every avenue of support in-order to accomplish our goals,” declared Myself. “Once we have finalized our efforts I’m sure he will show up at the appropriate time. Now we had better get on with our job.”
Myself stood and paced the room as he began to speak, “Let me make a couple of statements towards clarifying what I’ve said and mean. The establishment of a new nation is hypothetical in that it is merely a copy of what already exists with some custom features. We are attempting to accomplish two goals. One: we wish to found an example we can point to when the time is right. Two: In the process of forming this example, we seek to, simultaneously, establish a base of power. This base of power will have the effect of being a shield for our protection at the time our intent becomes apparent.
Let me relate some research I have done into the figures required for the structure of this power base. In examining national election figures, for all elections since 1800 until the present, one thing was very apparent. If a unified group of two and one half million people focused their votes on one side or the other, they would have the power to decide the outcome of ninety-seven percent of all elections.
For this to be successful, it is imperative for this to be a unified and focused effort. What I am saying is we would need to be, absolutely, certain we have that kind of support in order to be secure in our efforts. For additional security, we need to continue our efforts of invisibility, and never be identified as leaders in this movement. If they cannot identify the head, they cannot cut it off.
Let me defuse your response before we discuss this idea. We currently have a community of three thousand people and we have the opportunity to establish a unique and honorable structure for this community. If we do this, well, it will grow and prosper into a thriving entity from which we can expand our base to other communities of our design.
These communities will be scattered about the country wherever we find likely converts. The communities will be tied together through a communication link involving their local newspapers. In this way, the common agenda of all can be aired and discussed without drawing undue notice. It will be akin to union newsletters for informing the members of their agenda. For creating complete understanding of our goals, the public education system will be structured to educate each member of the exact benefits of their system.
From the earliest grade through the highest, these students shall be taught responsibility and participation. Now I am not talking about indoctrination, but an open approach to developing the ability to think for themselves, a free and open study of their rights. We should have no need for indoctrination if our system can stand the test of, scrutiny. If it provides the honorable and humane values we seek to establish we cannot lose.”
“Alright are there any questions,” inquired Myself. He was caught flatfooted when his friends offered no rebuttal. After a moment to catch his balance he continued. “Well I’m going to take that lack of response to mean I’m making some sense. To, further, clarify this, two paths, one road, approach we must travel, I will highlight their divergence yet sameness of destination.
The faux nation we are developing can be done based on an ideal structure. While initially, we accept, this ideal cannot be applied to the whole.”
“Therefore, when we come-to-light with our agenda we
need to have a viable approach with, which to entice the whole to a higher plane. Once we have the power base from which to work this shall present no problem. This will be due to the existence of the tools necessary for this goal already being in place and functioning with proven results. Here, we need to give a great deal of study in order to present the biggest carrot possible, something so logical and honorable that resistance is virtually eliminated. We can be assured there will be a hew, and cry raised about communism, socialism, etc. however, we need to be able to show, without argument, it is free enterprise.
We need our power base to affirm and demonstrate its functioning and the benefits those involved in it receive, and most importantly show its tie to the foundation rights of Americans. When we come-to-light we will be showing the loophole available to all Americans for the securing of their future and this will not make some people happy.
These people are the elitist ‘manifest destiny’ purveyors who currently stand upon the necks of humanity and control ninety-percent of all wealth. Believe me when I say they will fight with every tooth and nail at their disposal. However, if we have dotted the I’s and crossed the T’s we cannot be defeated.”
Myself was silent as he awaited the response of his friends. After a few moments of this silence, there came an expulsion of air from I, and Me. Then I spoke, “Myself that is the most brilliant speech I’ve ever heard. You have refined out the salient requirements of our task in a precise and accurate rendition beyond my wildest hopes.”
Me added his concurrence when he intoned, “Myself, you have shown us a side of you we did not even imagine and in so doing have paved the road of our future travels. It must be stated we have just started this journey but you have given us the true direction… …Thank you.”
I added his assessment of Myself’s obvious grasp of their goal by stating, “It seems very obvious you have a clear cut plan for exposing this loophole? Further I’ll assume you have more than one carrot in your stew…Is this the case?”
“Oh yes, wait till you see the array of doors we shall open. Why there will be a flood tide of freedom washing away the stench and decay of the dreaded disease of benevolent slavery. How was that,” asked Myself, “was there enough bombast to go around?” Me dropped to his knees laughing at the expression of surprise on I’s face at these words. Shortly all three were engulfed in uproarious mirth which was fueled by I’s dubbing Myself ‘Preacher.”
Myself looked at his friends and seemed lost to contemplation. After a few moments he stated, “You asked about the carrots in my stew and my feeling is it is time to put these on the table. I have alluded to the establishment of a new nation and the ideal structure we can apply. However, it is time to define the structure of this effort, and show how it is possible for this approach to change the whole world.
We three are aware of the loophole provided by the founding of America, however, we hesitate in clearly defining what this concept is. I am going to outline this concept and my vision of where it should go. Please allow the freedom for my completion of this plan before we discuss its merits.” I, and Me acknowledged this request with promises of refraining from comment until Myself completed his dissertation.
“Plainly stated, the founding of America gave the people the right to buy their freedom through the application of free enterprise. What we saw was the clear implication nothing required the American citizen to buy anything from companies, which funnel the profits into the hands of a few investors. In other words, it is now possible and always was for the citizens of this country to own the industries, which supply their necessities of life.
By owning these industries, it becomes possible to funnel these profits back down to the people who buy these products. In effect, this equals buying the necessities of life at cost. This is achieved, because all profits are returned as wealth for the future security of the citizens. I have already outlined this effect in my ideal example concerning land usage. Now let us look at what we shall develop for the enticement of the whole.
My vision sees five primary areas where this can make tremendous advancement for all people’s lives. These five areas are as follows: 1. Banking, 2. Insurance, 3. Food and clothing (daily necessities), 4. Energy. 5. Medical care. The first of these will accomplish almost the same benefit that was seen in my concept of citizen ownership of land. We probably cannot change the ownership factor, but we can definitely retain the profit for the usage of the citizens.”
“There is not one thing stopping the American citizen from owning each of these financial enterprises. Through the expedient of the ‘Neighborhood of First and Last Americans,’ it is possible to incorporate and operate each of these industries for the welfare of the citizens.
Now let us examine banking and the effect of owning this industry. A banking charter is established in the name of the ‘Neighborhood, and each member then owns an equal percentage of stock in this venture. This ownership is held by each individual for his or her lifetime, and then dissolved upon his or her death. This is necessary to maintain equal ownership by not allowing ownership to be inheritable. This means each person has one share of stock, which terminates at death. This is so no other person inherits this stock giving then more than one share ownership. However the profits which accrue into a retirement account shall be considered personal wealth and be fully inheritable. Now look how this accomplishes almost the same effect as outlined in the perfect structure.”
“Again let’s examine property and its impact. A man in his early twenties buys a home. We can apply any price for the purposes of this example, so let us say fifty thousand dollars is the cost. Roughly speaking, over the thirty-year lifetime of this loan, that man will pay approximately one hundred and fifty thousand dollars for this property. At the end of the thirty years he has paid off his loan, however, the only place he has acquired any value is in the equity and appreciation gained over the thirty years.
However, to realize the usage of this wealth he is required to sell the property, which necessitates the expense of another residence at the current market value. In reality, he has stood still and made no progress. True his heirs will receive benefits but that does this man little good for his retired security. Depending upon the number of heirs the overall impact will be diluted by division and inheritance taxes resulting in small gain for the average person seeking to survive in this economy.”
“Now, view the effect achieved by the application of our vision. This same man goes to ‘his’ bank and finances a home. The same figures apply and over thirty years he pays off that home. He now has the equity, appreciation, and the benefit of returned profit. This profit is the same figure currently being funneled upward into the hands of invisible investors. While it is likely his bank will operate at a reduced profit because it shall at all, times behave honorably towards its depositors.
In other words, it shall seek to help, not gouge the depositor/owners of this corporation. Still the overall result will be the returning to the homeowner of all monies minus overhead to his personal retirement account. He now has equity, plus appreciation, plus profit. This account is the same as a personal savings account and upon retirement is his to use as he wishes. This shall include monthly checks to supplement his lifestyle or lump sum dispersal. It is his money and as such is fully at his disposal. Further, it becomes part of his estate available to aid his family in the event of his demise.”
“That should make it reasonably clear what I am saying when referring to lifetime tenure of ownership, of these enterprises, and perpetual ownership of the benefits. A little aside that should and could be applied can be seen if that man has a financial crisis resulting in his inability to make the payments on this home. Depending on the period of ownership, he shall have the profits acquired from his payments plus the profits from all of his other banking usage. His bank will then, in times of emergency, suspend or greatly reduce his payments by applying his profits towards his debt.
This will greatly enhance the nation’s economy by reducing or eliminating repossessions and depressing the vital real estate industry. It should be apparent the individual and the nation are both the beneficiaries of this type of approach.”
“Is what I’ve tried to explain understandable?” questioned Myself. I and Me assured him they understood perfectly and were delighted with his concept. Both, however, were clear in stating it would probably take a very clear outline on paper for the average person to understand.
Me stated his amazement at the depth Myself had applied in his development of this approach. He also explained the necessary tools for insuring the safety of this plan were, for most part, already established and in place.
I added his thoughts by saying, “It is clear from this outline why you talk about the tools of success being established and available when we go public with our plan. You are a hundred percent accurate in your assessment that an enticement like this means we cannot lose. Once this is up and running, in our communities, it is fully transferable to the nation at large. No restructuring will be needed, because no dilution occurs by the addition of unlimited owners. This is because their benefits come solely from their participation, and is unaffected by the actions of any others. What this does is allow the individual to keep a greater percentage of his earning and use it for his own security. Myself, this is an amazing concept and is exactly the approach we knew could be developed and it is one hundred percent free enterprise.” Myself thanked his friends and continued.
“In as much as you have seen what is being done by this method it should suffice to say each of the other four areas will add to the overall effect in like manner? Imagine the impact of your insurance, clothing, food, energy all of these adding to your future security. It should be noted my failure to mention medical care and this is due to its special character. Medical care is not an area where profit is important. Here our primary concern is quality, and equal application of that quality for all. It is my opinion that, after overhead, and the assurance of equal care for all, if this enterprise breaks even we are all enhanced. However, it should be apparent costs should be reduced by removing the profit factor.
I would be willing to bet all people would forego profit for the guarantee of equal quality medical care in their time of need. As you stated I, if we establish these efforts in our faux nation and we secure our power base we shall be unstoppable.”
I stood up and pronounced, “This trip has been a remarkable adventure and has exceeded my wildest expectations. I will be honest and say, when we set out my feelings were mixed and filled with doubts. My eyes have been opened to a fact totally beyond my imagination a mere week ago. That is my genuine good fortune in having you two as my friends. You are a unique treasure and I’ll never manage to state my profound gratitude for my good fortune.”
No longer embarrassed by these compliments both Me and Myself were unhesitating in their concurrence with I’s appraisal and each stated their own like feelings about the other. I made the suggestion it was time to return home and begin the orchestration of their plans. All three admitted it was time but they each were feeling regrets at leaving such a special time in their lives.
Surprising all, it was Me who broke this melancholy by pointing out, “My guess is we shall discover that we have just pulled onto the road and it is a long ways to where it leads.” All of a sudden, Myself went into paroxysms of uncontrolled laughter. Both I and Me were caught of guard and somewhat distraught by this event, concerned they asked, “What is wrong Myself? Are you okay?”
Between fits of laughter Myself managed to gasp out his reply, “It just occurred to my thoughts that two of us have a hell of a lot of work packing up the totally useless baggage we brought on this trip.” I, and Me’s eyes opened wide at the realization and instantly they too were roaring with uncontrolled howls of mirth.” Finally, Me managed to croak out, “We could just leave it, because the people who brought it here don’t exist anymore.” All three nodded in silent agreement to this statement and the joy continued.
CHAPTER 28
HIGH ON THE MOUNTAIN
Sachem sat, in his aerie, high atop South Butte. From here, he could see far across the verdant valley and observe the comings and goings of his sacred charge. He sat pondering his recent trips into this land and the messages he had imparted. Yes, he thought I have created quite a stir. Each time he appeared there congregated a large crowd and a swarm of questions. He had continued his enigmatic response to these queries and had pointedly referred only to the situations he intended to influence. He smiled at the thought and mused over the homilies he had left in his wake.
Each foray into the land of all learning had been in order to establish his sage benevolence, and to cement his mysterious aura. “A Government with a percentage of its population disenfranchised has no right instructing others how they should rule,” “The greatest impediment to the truth is belief,” and “There are no accidents; everything is founded in cause and effect.” Again, he smiled and considered these, simple, truths and the fervor with which the population had added them to their list of maxims. “The truth of the Butte Wizard,” they had termed them and with conscientious, lemming like acceptance, each carried their copy for study. He knew the time was near for the return of the three who are one and the one who is three, and to that event he was sure his efforts had eased the road.
On purpose, he had refrained from any involvement in the policies of running the community. Rather he had sought to instill a thread of common sense and foundation. Each effort had been more successful than he could have imagined. This was true even though they quite often had caused the effect of no action being taken. This he realized was very successful due to the fact; quite often, no action was needed. Well, not exactly no action, however, the action required was individual not governmental in nature.
It was personal responsibility, which he sought to instill, and not the effort to place the blame on the evasive “They.” The vague, “They,” who were to blame for all social disease, and must be controlled, by law and punishment. In this effort, he had seen a slowly dawning awareness by the people to the fact those vague, “They” people are in reality us. In this awareness, confessions, promises, and genuine effort had grown in this incipient community. For this effort, he had thrown in one of his personal favorite homilies, “No person ever has less value than when they seek to exalt themselves at the expense of other’s stature. It is impossible to raise yourself by putting somebody else down.”
Sachem sat in quiet contemplation of these events and was secretly very happy at the result. He freely admitted to himself he was having the time of his life, and he was anxiously looking forward to the return of the three who are one. In his time he had seen many dawns, some of which were portends of great changes in the development of humankind. Quite often, these had proven negative directions and retarded development had followed, but some had been brilliant sunrises for man’s advance.
He contemplated the selfless sacrifice of “Christ” and felt a peace at having observed this event. From this event had come a remarkable instruction manual, which showed the path of humane advance. He was saddened by the interference of man in their attempts to “Interpret” this work, for it required no interpretation it stated clearly, what the “Creator” required. Sachem had come to realize the trappings of man’s additions had managed to cloud the message but the message was still there. He knew it was the path which was important not the trappings.
He knew without question it was the path and not the construction company, which must be acknowledged. The construction company was very confident of its abilities and did not require man to affirm them. This understanding had granted him two of his favorite “Truths,” “You do not have to acknowledge the construction company to realize it is a very fine road,” and “If a man pulls onto a road and drives long enough without exiting, he assured of arriving exactly where it leads.”
That basic and simple, the instructions were given, and of course, man continued his blind and stupid search for a loophole. The ridiculous cop out you could beg off at the last second, and be redeemed. This was man’s attempt to justify a life of dark roads and unjust behavior while wanting to believe he carried a get out of jail card for the ending.
To understand this you must envision your relationship with a man you had known your entire life. Now in that time of knowing this man he had never once told the truth. As you are aware of this fact, what are the chances of your assuming the last thing he says to you is the truth. Sachem smiled as the thought came to him, “Slim and none and Slim left town a week ago.”
Perhaps, he thought the instructions should have included the warning, “All roads have no exits in the last hundred miles of existence.” Now wouldn’t that shake up the fools and clowns? What a controversy man would indulge in and the pontification on exactly what the last hundred miles equaled in years, would be a real laugh. Sachem was sure some man would gather enough followers in order for his interpretation to gain sway. Then man could again breathe a sigh of relief, “Phew, thank God for loopholes.”
All of this cogitation had amused Sachem so much he uncharacteristically found himself roaring with laughter. “Oh, how fine I feel,” he thought, “and to think I am about to see a new dawn.” “Life is wonderment and I treasure it all,” Sachem had to admit he was excited. He shook his head in amazement and wondered, “Feeling these mortal feelings are such a pleasure. Why then is man so often such an unhappy creature?” For all his insight, he could find no answer to this puzzle. “Today is the day and I am ready to build a road.”
CHAPTER 29
WELCOME BACK
Clearly so much had changed, and never would it be the same again. The three friends were deeply aware of these events and it was with an aching sense of melancholy they climbed into the loaded truck. Eureka had given birth to three new and unique beings and for this, they were grateful. Each reminisced, in their own way, about this strange twist of fate. The road ahead was exciting and mysterious with twists and turns uncharted; however, here it had begun. All three knew the conversation about purchasing land here had simply been a metaphor for their new path and thus would not be in their future. Their lives were owned by this new road and the likelihood of their return to Eureka was far distant at best. Perhaps some day, yes, someday and with this thought they waved to familiar figures as they exited the town.
I made the only comment concerning their departure, “It was good…I mean, oh you know, that we came here.” The cab of the truck was stirred by the nodding of three heads. Nothing else need be said and the primeval forest wrapped its arms about them.
The thoughts of each sought out their niche in the future and silent rumination held sway for the next hour. This reverie was broken by Me’s simple statement, “Buy back our freedom…Remarkable.” This brought a rueful chuckle from all three and slowly their conversation expanded. No games involving splattered bugs and no bantering thoughts of giants. The road was not beneath their wheels, it was before their eyes, and a carefully driven course was demanded. Seen over their shoulders were the simple days of yore, and as such were splendid treasures, which no longer could be spent.
Myself offered up an assessment, “I never said it was my wish to grow up. It never occurred to my thoughts. An adventure that is what was in my mind and damned if we didn’t find a cause. Very mysterious, it is true we must be careful what we wish for, as it just may come true.” His two compadres nodded in acknowledgement of this sage insight and chuckled at Myself’s serious mien.
Me pitched in his view with a simplistic truth, “We are each responsible to explore the paths we ask to see. We asked, we saw, and now are we going to be busy. The magnitude is daunting but in reality, it is just a game and thus we will have fun. That much is guaranteed by our very natures after all, when, have we ever failed to have a good time.”
These words were a tonic to the passengers of that truck of destiny and the buoyancy it created inside seemed reflected by a lighter weight on the road. No longer a truck, they envisioned a magic carpet whisking them to heroic battles. As the past diminished into nothingness, in their rear view window, their spirits soared out before their path seeking new dragons to slay. In all their difference, they were the same, and excitement snapped like a power grid on overload, as they could not wait to meet the challenge.
For some reason, he would never understand, Myself began singing, “We’re off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Oz.” Soon all three were, very poorly, harmonizing the movie classic and laughing uproariously. The prophetic nature of this outburst would haunt all three of their thoughts for the balance of their days. None could even remember knowing the words prior to their spontaneous outburst. Why that song? Heaven only knows for in truth singing was not a talent any of the friends displayed with any degree of expertise. Life is wonderment and that you can take to the bank.
As they settled into the ride, silence cloaked their thoughts. Each studied their particular segment of the road they traveled, not the one they were driving, no; their thoughts were on the one they were living. Their concentration was so profound it took several seconds for I, and Me to climb out of these recesses when Myself stated. “We have never driven on this road before.” Both of his companions blinkingly snapped out of their reverie and finally I retorted, “Oh, you actually mean the road we a driving on?”
“Yes” came Myself’s one word response and then adding, “Yes, this road, we have never traveled on this road before.” Somewhat confused Me pitched in. “It is hard to grasp why that is germane, however, this is the road we traveled, on our trip to Eureka.”
“That is exactly what I’m saying and every new road is germane,” was Myself’s cryptic reply. Now, thoroughly confused I, and Me glanced first to each other then at Myself. I hesitated to comment but decided he must, “I’m afraid you have lost us or maybe you have lost yourself.” Myself chuckled and explained, “Each road we travel is a lesson. This is true whether we drive, walk, or think, all roads have lessons therefore they are germane. Me, correctly pointed out we traveled this road to Eureka but that has nothing to do with the road we are on now.
Because the road we are on now is one of the roads, you take when you ‘leave’ Eureka and therefore are an entirely different experience. I am not sure why this was important to say but I was compelled to say it. Perhaps it is important to be attuned to the nuances of change regardless of their seeming insignificance for then you are always aware of where you are and where you are going. This will be very important in the days to come, that’s all I’m saying.”
“That’s all you’re saying?” queried Me, “now that it is clear what you meant I’d have to say that is enough. You are right, it is vital we not lose our way and we each must point out any meandering we observe. However, Myself you, rather, came out of left field with that one. Let’s seek to reduce confusion by prefacing our sage comments with a warning. Maybe we should shout, ‘Look out here it comes’ or some such heads up.
I and Myself stared at Me in amazement until it dawned on them he was kidding. The fact it was Me poking these jibes added even more to their impact and I was forced to pull to the shoulder, lest he lose control of the truck. When they had completely stopped, the doors burst open, and I from one side and Myself from the other, dropped to the ground in paroxysms of mirth. Me, while not serious in his comments did not grasp the full impact he had. Therefore, his laughter was the infectious laughter created by his friend’s uncontrolled amusement.
When all had settled down and the journey was resumed, Myself again felt constrained to discuss his structuring of their endeavor. To this explanation, he began speaking. “There are some interesting aspects of our concept which must be on all our minds, so let me outline some of this information for our thoughts. First, it is important all of our residents be covered by this plan. This entails a monthly membership fee be paid for every man, woman and child in our community. We have agreed this fee be set at twenty dollars and when viewed at this figure, that annual amount is approximately $720,000 dollars. It is important, every resident realize this money will not be spent, or used in any way to jeopardize his or her future usage of it at retirement. So we understand how that can be let me outline its usage. Within any community, there are services, which are required for its functioning. These have been outlined under our designation of the five areas of citizen rights of participation in profit and I would like to see their implementation occur as follows.
One: Insurance. Two: Banking. Three: Food and clothing. Four: Energy. Five: Medical. Now, here is why I have placed this order on them, and realize this is for our new nation only. When we address the world at large, we will need to consider which we wish to start with at that time.
Insurance, this is a necessity due to the fact responsibilities of life must be met. However, some situations do occur which are catastrophic in nature to the welfare of all parties involved in these events. That is, they are catastrophic without the umbrella of an underwriter of this responsibility and the help it provides. Insurance is the combining of funds to meet the needs of these events thus minimizing the impact on the individual resources of the participants. In our new nation, we will be stressing responsible, honorable behavior, and this will help to lower the overall number of events requiring underwriter assistance. This will maximize the benefits of citizen owned insurance and this is why I have placed it first. My suggestion is the immediate establishment of a citizen owned Insurance Corporation."
"As we discussed, this will be owned jointly and equally by all members of our Neighborhood. The first year of its operation, the profits from this venture are to be applied to the repayment of any of the twenty-dollar membership fees used in its establishment. This insures these monies availability at the point of retirement of the members. After the repayment of this loan all profits shall then be divided on an equal and annual basis and applied to this retirement membership account. This account will be held until retirement or disability requires its usage. It should be apparent what this account will mean at the time of the chartering of our Neighborhood Bank.
The first thing it means is clear, as these monies are repaid, plus the infusion of the future membership fees, we shall have adequate resources for future growth. Each of these five ventures shall enhance and ease the welfare of the citizens and supply work and commerce for our community. None of these endeavors can harm the economy due to the fact the same number of people are required to operate them. As seen, this represents business as usual except in the area of applied profit.”
“That fact should indicate why banking is next in line as it shall be the overseer of the funds of our effort and the driver of our commercial and industrial growth. In our community, we have already established citizen ownership of the land and we just need to finalize the guidelines we agreed to in Eureka.”
“Now let us talk about Banking, this enterprise is a vital driving force in the economy of America and world. Baron Rothschild stated its importance by saying, ‘I do not need to control the government or the military of a nation. Let me control their money and they are mine.’ That is a rough version of his statement but I feel it is accurate as to impact. There is a virulent credo in the economic world, which shall erode the functioning of all industries of the world, and Banking, shall fall prey. That credo is as follows, ‘Maximize profit for the investors,’ and its impact will suck the humanity out of all business of the future.
If we view this statement, it should be apparent it bypasses all concepts of competition and in fact promotes corporate cooperation in establishing prices and quality. No longer is maximize quality for the consumer to be a consideration in business and I envision some of the following results. Let us view the telephone as an example. Do either of you know of any telephone failing to work. I mean the phone itself not the service, which is prone to brief outages. Viewing his friend’s negative head nods Me, continued. This will become an unacceptable condition in the future, and throwaway phones shall become the norm. This is due to the simple fact, the profit on phone sales maximize profit for investors. These investors are not content with the profit from the services alone. This is a direct outcome of the controlling minority’s belief in their right to acquire it all. The rest of humanity is simply their pawns to be used for accomplishing this goal.”
“That is just one example of where this calculated quality control shall rule. All products and services shall be ruled by the squeeze-em to please-em philosophy of business. Under these guidelines, the world economy will grow, and expand to a resource-guzzling inferno. When this is factored with population, we will witness a huge disparity between the have and have-not’s. The world will be a war zone between those who believe it is their right to excessive consumption, and those who desire just to survive. As long as this disparity exists, no law, military action, or political agenda will be able to stop the carnage.
It is just like our involvement in Viet Nam, a war we cannot win, because if a nation refuses to quit you have not won. Think on this, if it were your nation, which was invaded, would you ever stop fighting? Neither will they. We should have had the intelligence to realize this fact by the action of the underground resistance against the Nazi’s in the Second World War. Man will not tolerate overt action against his nation, home, or beliefs, and in the future, this will be done covertly. Still the resistance will never end."
"Anyway enough said on that as we have an agenda that is vital for addressing this chaos and reestablishing the value of the individual. We must be assiduous in our structure and always build from the ground up. If the foundation is not sound, honorable, fair, the structure is a failure.”
Silence filled the trucks cab as each of the three contemplated these words. Myself was the first to speak as he observed, “Phew, it was never in my mind, exactly the depth of this struggle or the meaning of its outcome. We dare not fail for the future of our families, friends, humanity it’s self.”
I expanded on the lesson by pointing out, “Population is definitely a driving factor and we really have no viable way of addressing this matter. Right now, the world population is slightly over three billion people but projections place it at eight billion early in the twenty first century. It took from the beginning of man’s time until about 1804 before we reached one billion people and then in two hundred years it will expand eight times.” Me answered this statement by saying, “You are right we have no answer for these crises. Our only hope is, if we are successful this problem will become glaringly apparent, and man’s survival instinct will move him in intelligently addressing the problem. If not, nothing can save us. If we focus on this we will lose, so it is important we do what we can and hope for the best.”
Again, silence was the response, as all three considered these implications. In this silence, the awareness of how far they had traveled became apparent. They were beyond the coastal splendor of giant forest and green growth. Here, approaching the highway twenty cutoffs, the mountains were dry and browned by the summer heat. Ukiah was just south of the cutoff and the friends agreed it would be a good place to have lunch. Twenty-five minutes saw them seated in a small café ordering their food. No further conversation ensued, as each was deep in thoughts of the road ahead of them.
Lunch completed, and on the road again, they headed back North in order to connect with Highway 20 East. This would take them by Clear Lake and its many small towns along the lakes shore. Clear lake is the largest natural lake in California and the economy of these towns was ueled by its fishing and tourist facilities. Driving the two-lane highway was slow and restful and in this manner, they quietly passed through the quaint towns on its shore.
Finally, as they passed through Clear Lake Oaks, they realized they were on the final leg of their journey, no more than an hour and half from home. Each in their own way felt the conflicting emotions generated by the chore in front of them. There was no need for conversation, and in silence, they traveled. Nothing further was said until reaching the long downgrade to Williams when I intoned, “Well, my house is the first stop and we should all sleep on what we have to do. There is plenty of room in the two guest rooms and when we are rested, we will need to discuss a few things. The thing I’m most curious about is where this Sachem guy is and what will be his role?”
Myself added, “I’ve been wondering the same thing. But I’ve complete faith he will make his presence felt very soon.” The three weary travelers watched as the distant Buttes seemed to crystallize in the center, of the giant food basket, of the upper Sacrament valley. Anyone who had grown up in view of these mountains would always feel at home when they came into view. The three agreed to pass by Williams and go into Colusa before heading north to their
home. They all realized it would be great to be home again. Whynot, here we come.
CHAPTER 30
THE GREETING PARTY
At last, I pulled the truck onto the lane leading to his house. All three were happy to be back, after an almost seven-hour ride. I pulled the truck behind the house where it would be out of sight. In truth, there was little chance of visitors but he did not want to take any chances. The three friends stiffly climbed from the cab and stretched their legs. As they turned towards the back door, they noted it was slightly ajar.
Immediately they were alert but the thought of burglars never entered their mind that just was not possible in Whynot. This was not just because of the values of the community, for there were many factors, which kept crime at bay in this community. The unique structure of Whynot would prevent these types of crime from ever being a problem.
With these thoughts, all three started forward to investigate. As they approached the door, it suddenly swung open and the entire doorway was filled with the gigantic figure of Sachem. Myself instantly knew this vision was going to be quite a shock to his companions. He took their arms and started introducing the immense figure. I, Me, I am pleased to introduce you to my friend and teacher, Sachem. Sachem strode across the intervening space and apologized for his having caused such a shock.
“Please forgive me; however, I knew you were coming today and thought it better if I remained out of sight indoors to allay any suspicions. We have much to discuss but for now, our meeting will suffice. You will need rest and nourishment so I have prepared food for you before you take a much-needed nap. I hope I have not upset you too badly as we can’t afford any enmity to exist between us.”
I gathered his composure and answered, “Outside of a possible heart attack there is no problem. My friend Me and I have been looking forward to making your acquaintance. Please, let us go inside and make ourselves comfortable.”
The tiny army of four entered the house where the fragrant aroma of food made the three travelers realize the inadequacy of their lunch to staunch their hunger. Sachem made himself busy with the serving of food and waiting for the three to sate their hunger. The hearty venison stew, flavored with wild herbs was so good all three ate until the cook pot was empty. Me did not hesitate to proclaim, “If you can cook everything that good you can break into my house whenever you want.” This was all that was needed to clear the final hurdle of acceptance and even the stoic Sachem chuckled at the comment. Sachem cleared the dishes and spoke, “If it is agreeable with you I shall stay here while you three rest. When you awake, there are important things we should discuss, and time is a valuable commodity. While I am sure we are on the same wavelength it will be good to air these facts, and decide how best to proceed. In addition, you can add the final piece of the puzzle, for I will admit I am unable to see the doorway. It seems strange after so long a period guarding this door, I have never been allowed to view it, but that is the Creator’s way. If we tried to understand that, we would have no time for anything else and still we would fail.”
The hot food was taking its toll and all three travelers were nodding in their chairs. Sachem busied himself with the dishes as the three friends made their way in the arms of sleep. In a very short time, Sachem had finished the domestic chores and decided to reflect on the coming construction project.
Moving to the living room, he made himself comfortable in the northwest corner of the room. Here he cleared the floor and sat Buddha like in quiet thought. His thoughts centered upon his last contact with the citizens of Whynot. He did not know why he had never considered the infectious nature of the ‘manifest destiny’ mind set. He had assumed it was contained only in the controlling minority, however, his last dealings had shown him otherwise.
He thought on the situation, which had brought this insight to light. The citizens of Whynot were meeting to discuss the establishment of special education facilities for gifted students. He knew this would only impart a sense of uniqueness to the student so handled.
This special handling would forever remove these students from the main stream of their community and stamp them forever with a sense of special worth. Once this occurred, he knew, their agendas would always reflect their lack of consideration for those they viewed as beneath their position. As the debate shifted back and forth it became apparent, those in favor of this approach were definitely more persuasive in their presentation. Their sense of righteous zeal was to be applied to every roadblock and argument until they seemed certain of carrying the day.
At this point Sachem had risen to his imposing height and declared, “If all doors are not for the use of all people the building is useless. The purpose is unity without sacrifice, and this is done, not through separate doors but in joint concert. Do not raise the bar for a few, and leave the rest. Forever they shall be wondering what they are missing, and why. Place the bar in plain sight of all and you may be amazed at who finds their way to the heights. Regardless, when the upper limits are seen by all, and all observe some of their friends reach these goals they should be encouraged to applaud these results.
Friends who take pride in the achievements of others become unified in their cause. Hands reaching up in encouragement and hands reaching down to lift those below, and all will achieve their highest ability for humanity. This necessitates you not build better separate facilities for some, rather you must improve the existing facilities for all. When government makes special ruling for the few they fail in their responsibility. ‘A government with a percentage of its population disenfranchised has no right instructing others on how they should rule,’ He reiterated. As the pendulum swung in favor of the majority, Sachem again was successful in his efforts to disappear, quietly leaving behind only his words. These thoughts had instantly been accepted and added to the growing work termed “The Truth of The Butte Wizard.”
Sachem was secretly pleased at his results and at the same time amused at the willingness of these people to ascribe such potent authority to his words. He knew this could only be accomplished if the words, he shared, were true. His whole existence had been spent traveling the true road so he felt no fear at these thoughts. However, he did marvel at these people’s ability to perceive these truths. He knew it had started with his presence and mystery but that would never have been enough, if they had not seen the truth of his words. The current rulers of the world were erroneous in their evaluation of the people as a whole, well maybe not erroneous, just unwilling to share the knowledge, and bounty. It was quite probable they knew this reality, but their greed would not allow it to be viewed by all. He felt sadness at these thoughts and wondered why. After all, it was very possible for every person to achieve the wonderment given by the Creator. Further, it could only be evil which prevented those who controlled from working to achieve that goal. Yes, there were now some major problems which must be addressed but it could still happen. After all true leadership required consideration of the welfare of the majority above all else.
His thoughts turned to population and his heart was heavy. He knew this was a sticky problem. One, which the leadership at large managed to ignore in hopes it, would not rear its ugly head on their watch. This process only managed to allow the situation to achieve epidemic proportions with millions dying annually from lack of basic resources.
Again, for the countless time, Sachem’s thoughts turned to this dilemma. What was the population figure that would allow honorable access for all to share in the resources of the world? He knew this solution would take more learned scholars than he, but he could not help but ponder the puzzle. In the course of his musing, he had developed a rough formula, one he did not have the skill required to solve, but something told him he was on the right track.
Once more for the umpteenth time, he viewed this concept and was frustrated. Resources (X)=Population, this had come to him in this form and he understood resources were the finite goods of the earth including recycling and (X) equaled the number of years man wanted to survive, all which needed to equal the population. This much was clear to him; however, the solution to this equation was beyond his grasp. Instinctively he understood the answer was vital for man’s future but could do nothing about it. He was also completely aware population was the variable in this quest as it was the only factor, which could be altered to produce positive results. Resources were finite, and any variation of (X) could only be accomplished by adding to or reducing population.
In this fruitless pursuit, he was sitting in silent contemplation when I interrupted his reverie by asking, “Didn’t you need to rest?” Sachem came back to the present and replied, “Rest and sleep are not a factor in my life as it is for you.” This enigmatic statement piqued I’s interest and he immediately responded, “Are you saying you don’t require sleep?” Sachem smiled benignly and explained, “My purpose is and always was that of guardian, and the very nature of that appellation necessitates constant vigilance. My existence is not like yours, because it has always been my knowledge that I always was and always will be. This is your structure too but unless you truly know this you shall function under the control of the limitations accepted for mortality.”
“Very interesting and profound, it will require some thought and then maybe we can discuss it in greater depth,” was I’s response.
“Of course, it has always been a factor of the agenda we travel and it will give great pleasure for us to discuss this fact.” As I looked into the depths of Sachem’s slate gray eyes, he felt a sense of falling into a time warp of ancient knowledge. He was assaulted by an understanding of the vast wisdom of this being before him. Like a child, that was how he felt and this fueled a wonder at the possibilities before him. A simple request by two friends had exponentially expanded into an opening of reality, always considered fairytales. All things truly are meant to exist and it would be a shame to miss any of it. I realized you do not have to try all things in order to understand them you just need to accept the fact they are true. That and the fact, “All things are founded in cause and effect,” and you could find the reason for anything.
I was considering the unusual circumstances of his awakening when Me and Myself made their appearance. All four members of the mission exchanged greetings and decided to have a meal before their mutual briefings. Once again, Sachem demonstrated his prowess in culinary arts while preparing a sumptuous repast. The success of his efforts was clearly defined by the silent consumption of every morsel he had prepared.
Having, cleaned up after their meal it was time to share experiences and goals for the accomplishment of their common cause. It took I, and Me some time before they began feeling comfortable with the unfamiliar presence of Sachem. His wealth of knowledge concerning their lives both surprised and unsettled them. It was very difficult to realize a complete stranger knew such details of their lives. Only the realization this was not a threatening situation allowed them to accept this fact. Sachem knew he was pressing them to their limits but felt this necessary to destroy all barriers. He knew complete honesty and trust would be vital if they hoped to succeed. Slowly, as the day turned to evening, which passed into the late night, the commonality of the views of all four began to have its desired effect and Sachem knew they were beginning to be comfortable. For today, that was all he hoped to accomplish.
I, and Me on the other hand were soon caught up in the vast knowledge and wisdom apparent in Sachem. This stirred them to seek more and more information far beyond Sachem intention of sharing. Everybody realized this was occurring and soon it became a game of sorts. First would be general sharing and slowly I and Me would press for more detailed information. When Sachem realized they were running ahead of the schedule he would stop and give the impression of great concentration then reply, “That too remains to be seen?”
While frustrating to I and Me this became so prevalent as to form the basis of a common joke. Soon even Sachem would chuckle when one or the other of them would use this enigmatic response. Remarkably, it was this fact, which completed binding them together. It is a very important fact that people who share humor are sharing insight, and communication becomes greatly eased. Because if you can agree something is funny, you can agree something is serious and then true communication exists.
Deep into the night, the four would broach subject after subject until they realized they were on the same track. Then in silent agreement they would change pages by the humorous expedient of appearing in deep thought and saying, “And this too remains to be seen,” Me, Myself and I soon found this so funny they would burst into uncontrollable laughter at the application of this phrase. Sachem understood the need for this playfulness and encouraged every chance for its application.
He knew they were forming an essential bond and forging lines of respect and communication useful to their goals. Myself’s comfort in Sachem’s presence aided this transformation and eased the road to this future campaign.
