Title: Ambushing Phillip Morris

We camped out in the sand dunes, just above the beach on Friday night, waiting for him. He was supposed to show up at about midnight. Holo-Zoo had researched his movements for about a week, watching his comings and goings, and taking notes.

We felt sure he would be there, sometime between 10pm and 2am. So we got there early and I drank beers from a cooler, while Holo-Zoo absently killed the time charting the stars over the ocean. It was nearly 2:30am when I finally asked him.

"So, you're sure he'll be here?"

"Yes. I'm sure. He always comes by here on Friday nights."

"Around midnight?" I asked.

"Usually," said Holo-Zoo, "give or take... "

"Well, I don't see him. I don't think he's coming tonight."

"He'll be here." Holo-Zoo said, and turned to me. "Do you really think this is going to help any, waiting in ambush for this guy? It's not going to make it any easier on you, and I don't think it's going to help the situation, either."

Oh great, I thought, the voice of reason. Who programmed this idiot? I didn't really care at this point. I was tired. I had sand in my shorts and I was fed up with waiting.

"Maybe not," I admitted, "But it's certainly going to make me feel better... if he ever shows up."

I reached for another beer, and Holo-Zoo pointed across the golden beach at a rider in the distance coming hard towards our position, sand clouds billowing in its wake.

"There. There he is. Get ready."

And in another few beats of my heart, The Marlboro Man came into view, a splendid cowboy galloping right past where we were hiding. I timed my leap from the top of the dune and as he was passing below us, I fell on him and knocked him from his horse into the sand. Holo-Zoo held him down and I beat him senseless with a piece of driftwood.

"That's for the dirty trick you played on me when I was a teenager."

The golden beach was quiet again after that, and we walked down to the water and washed our hands in the foamy surf. We stood there for awhile, watching the moon, and watching the Marlboro Man's horse wander aimlessly back the way it had come. Finally, I spoke up.

"How long 'til that Camel shows up?
