Title:
Kicking around ideas
I've been kicking around what I'm to do to get an income. I've got to adjust my life now, to go from bringing home a very comfortable $3,000 a month to... well, whatever I can now.
What I'm good at doing (jobwise):
Supply and Organizing
Cleaning. I actually love to clean, especially project cleaning.
Computer cleaning- I love taking computer towers apart and cleaning components. I use Q-tips and denatured alcohol in my kit. And everyone needs a clean tower, especially their fans and heatsinks. People just don't realize that. Everytime I clean a computer, the owner is amazed at how much better it runs. I also clean keyboards. I can make those fuckers go from nicotine stained brown back to the original color.
I started out at AFS in 1996 as a janitor and even as recent as last month was told I was the best ever. I ordered the very first high speed floor buffer the company ever purchased. Unlike most people who clean, whether they are janitors, hotel room cleaners, restaurant workers who all just wipe down the areas, I get in there and clean. It takes me longer, but the bottom line is- if I won't place my ass there or eat from it, it won't do.
Car care. I absolutely love detailing cars. Unfortunately, we have a lot of guys here who love it too- and who do a great job. They just charge too much, but they're good.
Animal care. When I was a teen, I walked some dogs. One of my favorites was a huge Great Dane named Drummer. Every day after school, I'd walk him for at least 30 minutes. Actually, he'd walk me. All my dogs (when I had more than one) get baths and groomed at least once a week. I'm still goofy on the nail clipping, but I'm great at bathing, brushing, fostering and cleaning animals. I'm so-so at training though I do have experience.
Air Traffic Control. While I was not a very good controller, I did gain some valuable flight data and organization experience which helped with my supply job.
An idea that came to me a few days ago, possibly a grass roots idea- I'm going to check. Of course, I'll need some sponsors to get going, but the potential is great I think: Bipolar people are extremely unreliable, through no fault of our own. When we're manic or in a high mixed state, we're great. We can work, be where we need to be and get er done. When we crash is when we lose our jobs, our kids, our lives. And we live in constant fear everyday of losing it all. I'd like to start a company which employs only bipolar workers. I'd have several areas of work- as described above, or- other slots if companys need "some-time" workers for special jobs. I'd have different jobs and some regular jobs- with a set number of hours and slots every day. No one would be required to work 40 hours a week, unless they could. If they show for work, they can work. If they don't show, no big deal- they will show when they can. There will be some requirements though and they would be:
They must take their required medications daily.
They must have the same strong work ethics I have and use them to do the jobs as I would.
They must want and need to work.
They must be bipolar, or have a similiar condition and be unable to hold a scheduled full time job.
When they agree to a job for the day, the must either fulfill the job, or, if unable once they get started, immediately report back to their manager to get a replacement so the job can be fulfilled.
Anyway, for right now, I think the next few days I'll be going to local businesses in town to see if they need their computers cleaned.
I also have my own Kirby cleaning system and would love to shampoo some carpets without the bullshit of worrying about having to sell one.
For my time, I think $35 for a computer tower and keyboard is very fair and $25 for a good sized carpet is fair. I would care for an animal for a very small fee and detail a car for half the price of the businesses. I just won't babysit kids. I would certainly pay those fees.
So, those are my ideas. Of course, it's too late the get the rent for this month but at least I can start on something else in the meantime and save enough to get back in here.
