Title:
WITHIN MY OWN SELF--award winner
WITHIN MY OWN SELF
When I embarked on a journey
To discover myself,
Cluttered, dingy, dusty and dark,
I found my mental shelf.
In one corner I found heaped up
A variety of thorns,
Reserved for those whom I hated,
With whom I had locked horns.
In another I found a few
Thank you notes which I could
Not send even though I promised
That the next day I would.
I found there, in a silken box,
Plenty of broken dreams,
Which were no use, of which I could
Not get rid of, it seems.
I found a diary in which I
Had written bold and clear,
Resolutions that I had made,
But not followed each year.
And lastly I found on the floor,
In a frame too rusted,
A picture faint and too hazy.
I picked it and dusted.
And look, what was it that I found,
It was the Lord Himself.
He said, “You could have asked me to
Clean up your mental shelf!”.
