Chapter FourteenEntry #529934
Violet hummed Hakuna Matata as she payed the lady at the register for her lunch. She was a in good mood today. Saturday night was the Senior Sizzle, and she was excited about it. Sure, it was just a picnic, but it meant getting out of the house and spending time with Christian and Drake.

Her good mood died when she saw Andria sitting next to Drake, her arm draped around his shoulders. She took a deep breath and headed for them, only to be intercepted by Christian. He took her trat from her in one sweep and carried it the rest of the way to the table, where he set his down next to it.

Drake immediately stopped talking to Andria and looked at Christian and Violet. "So, how was your date last night?" he asked.

Christian grinned and answered before Violet could. "It was a success! We went to the carnival down the street and Violet got on the ferris wheel."

Drake's eyes filled with surprise and he turned to Violet. "You got on a ferris wheel?"

Violet didn't say anything. She watched the surprise on Drake's face turn to anger as Christian continued.

"Yeah, we sang Hakuna Matata. I think we freaked a few people out."

Drake's eyes were still on Violet and he said quietly, "You would never go on a ferris wheel with me."

Christian obviously wasn't paying attention to the tone in Drake'a voice. "Maybe you just didn't try hard enough."

Drake's head whipped to Christian. "And how would you know?" he demanded loudly.

Christian finally caught on and leaned into Drake. "Dude, calm down. It was just a ferris wheel."

Drake kept his eyes on Christian.

"Drake is taking me to the Senior Sizzle!" Andria proclaimed proudly, a large smile on her face.

Violet looked at Andria's pleading eyes and knew that she was trying to lighten the mood between the boys. "Really?" she asked Andria, pretending to be friendly.

"Yeah. He's giving me a ride there." Her gaze slid to Christian. "Are you two going?"

Christian had obviously been listening because he looked at Violet. "Are we?"

She glanced quickly and Drake and saw that he, too, was looking at her in question. "Sure," she said to Christian.

His blue eyes lit up and he smiled. "Great."

Drake let out an audible sigh and turned to speak to Andria in a low voice. "We'll see you later," he said, a few mintues later.

He didn't take his eyes off of Violet as he stood up from the table and walked out of the cafeteria with Andria on his arm.

Christian shook his head as he watched them go. "Is he always in a bad mood?"

Violet shook her head. "No, he's not. I wish you could see how great he usually is. I don't know what's up with him lately."

"Were you planning to go to the Senior Sizzle together?"

Violet looked down at her tray and shrugged. "It's not like we had planned on it. I mean, we're best friends, I guess I just assumed..."

"Maybe you guys aren't as close as you thought."

Violet's head shot up and she looked Christian in the eye. "Drake and I have been best friends since we were kids. Nothing could ever change that. He's just going through some personal issues or something."

Christian nodded, sadness creeping into his eyes. "Okay."

After a quick stop by the Brite house to drop off Christian's money, Maggie picked up Pacey from school and went home to wait for her husband.

What would she say to him when he got home?

She was folding laundry when he walked in late. He hadn't shown up for dinner and when Violet and Pacey asked where he was, she didn't know how to answer. he was never late for dinner.

When he stormed into the room that night, she jumped and pun around to see him slamming the door.

"I had a talk with Amana today," he said loudly, throwing his coat and briefcase on the bed. "She said you had one with her, too, this afternoon when you came by the office."

Maggie sat down on the bed and folded her hands in her lap. "I did," she said.

"She told me all about it Maggie. You thought I was cheating on you?" The utter shock in his voice was hard for Maggie to believe. Didn't she have valid enough reason to think that he would cheat?

"What am I supposed to think Thomas?" She stood up from the bed and took a step closer to him.

"You're supposed to trust me, Maggie!" His voice was rising along with hers.

"How can I trust a man who doesn't love me?" she demanded. "How am I supposed to trust you when you won't tell me what's wrong with us?"

Thomas' mouth threatened to fall open. "There's nothing wrong with us, Maggie."

Maggie wanted to cry, to shout and scream until he would put his arms around her. "That's crap and you know it Thomas. We're not happy. You're not happy, and I don't know how to fix that. At least if you had been having an affair, I would understand why you don't want me, but I don't understand!" There were tears now. She just couldn't help it.

Thomas didn't answer, but he looked like he would cry too. "I'm sorry, Maggie."

"Sorry for what?" she yelled. "That you don't know what's wrong with us? Or sorry that you have to leave me? Or sorry that you didn't show up at dinner tonight, so our children don't know what to think about their father? Where were you?"

"I went out." He wasn't yelling anymore. His voice was utterly quiet next to Maggie's shouts.

"Did you decide that since I already thought you were cheating on me, you would just do it anyway?"

"I went out for a drink, Maggie!"

Thomas' sudden shout made her jump.

"I went out to drink because my wife thought I was cheating on her!" He spun around and yanked the door open. "I can't talk about this right now."

He door fell shut with a bang and Maggie fell to her knees, sobbing.
