Social Responsibility of the American Citizen
Speaking words of discontent is only acceptable if you follow it with action. If you do not, then it is merely sniveling, cowardice, and failure to do your job. This is very like a man willing to hide in a crowd and cast a stone, however, when pulled into the public eye, denies his act. If you are willing to cast the stone, be strong enough to accept the result. Be responsible for your acts otherwise shut the hell up. For results, concerning your beliefs, you need to find out if others share these thoughts. The foundation of this nation is majority rules. That fact makes it vital you seek others of like views, otherwise you are a brittle twig in the gale, and quickly snapped off. However, when you join the voices of millions, you become a mighty oak capable of withstanding the storm. No matter what happens, the fact will remain you are in America, therefore, you are allowed to have whatever opinion you wish. That fact comes with responsibility, therefore, should you find yourself in the minority, accept the situation with grace, and live as you choose…if it does not harm others.
A truth we fail to acknowledge is, there are countless paths, and if the one we are on does not go, where we want to go…take another. America is a remarkable design; however, its design only has value if we take advantage of it. Most of us are aware of the flaws, yet we put the solution of these flaws into others hands. That is akin to hiring a wolf to watch the sheep…a recipe for disaster. Two-hundred plus years of this approach, has failed to provide the guidance needed for our relief. Think about this quote of myself, “Anytime any group, organization, or philosophy gains undue influence, the result will be skewed to favor their agenda”.
My fellow citizens, the answers too many of the social illness we endure, are not difficult. Crime, medical care for all, retirement concerns, poverty, these, and many others are but a second away. Nevertheless, a very hot place shall freeze, before our government shall honorably address them. Why? This is because; they are swayed by the money players who put them in their position of power. These people do not put countless millions of dollars into the election process for establishing fairness for all. The truth is they do so in-order to achieve advantage for their agenda, and their success is apparent. This is sad but true, however, what can be done about it? We have the right to circumvent the problem, and do it ourselves. Is this not the American way, and our right as free citizens? If we leave this to government, we can expect another boondoggle, endlessly sucking money from our pockets, and providing no relief. We are the foundation of this nation, and upon our backs ride the entire structure. Don’t you think that makes it imperative that we become the strongest foundation we can be? As you continue, reading this work you will read a chapter titled, “Nine to One”. This is a simple, fair, honorable, and one-hundred-percent American solution, which you can control, and benefit from. If we join, together, in this manner we regain control of our lives, and government.
Picture a pyramid standing on its point, and realize you are looking at your nation. Think about the stability of this structure. Pretty scary, right? This picture demonstrates the distribution of the wealth of our country. Now, picture ninety-percent of the population crammed into the ten-percent equaling the point of this structure, while ten-percent live in the rest, with all of their massive wealth. This is a very simple picture of our situation, however an apt one, and it should not be hard to understand why we have a social illness problem. Throughout history, a similar picture has led to extremes of social unrest. The French revolution, (“let them eat cake”), the American Revolution, and all other revolutions have been precipitated by a similar construction. Rotten fruit by any other name cannot smell sweet, and it is time to take a lesson from history. Violent revolution, usually is successful, at great cost, yet begets a repetition of that it sought to destroy. This is a good example of taking a road, which leads to a destination, where we do not want to be. “Violence for change is the child of that it resists, as such it is destined to concatenate, and beget the grandchild, a chain endlessly forged in fire”.
Concatenate: To link, join, as the links of a chain.
Look at the unrest in the world, and you can view this reaction everywhere, and it absolutely will not work. Above, I claimed violent revolution usually succeeds, and the reason is apparent by my other statements. The oppressed outnumber the oppressors, “Nine to One”, however, humankinds tendencies for violence leads them into this endless spiral. The only change produced by violent revolution is who is applying the system of self-entitlement. Now, you can no longer claim you do not know what the problem is, and it is up to you to join in the breaking of this cycle.
In America, we defend, and admire these people of wealth, and power, as examples of our right to succeed…they deserve what they earned. Let me pose a question, which states my view of this situation. If you spent hundreds of dollars for a ticket to a heavyweight-boxing match, and when you got there your favorite fighter wore gloves, and the opponent had a baseball bat, would you be happy, or consider this situation fair?
I do not begrudge success, for it is vital to the advancement of society, however, it must be done fairly, and with social responsibility. There are many examples of this, Bill and Melinda Gates, Warren Buffet, Angelina Jolie, Oprah Winfrey, Montel Williams, the list is long, yet where are the old money, power mongers on this list. What I am sowing is the reality: money does not equal power. Power is a commodity, which is a learned behavior, and cemented over time, the powerful have been plying this behavior since the ancient beginnings of humankind.
Now many of you will read my words, and react with typical fervor by defending your nation, and denying my claims. However, I know you, sometimes, better than you know yourself, and I have faith in your American spirit. Every time you hear yourself complain, about some situation where your needs are not being meet by your system, you will remember, and think. Furthermore, I also know there is not a single American (below the top ten percent), who has not complained. In light of this reality, why not simply read these words with an open, and seeking mind, because that is your responsibility. We must never stop the process of working towards making this great nation become all she is meant to be. Words, thoughts, and discourse are not to be feared, and are definitely preferred to guns, knives, and bombs in-order to achieve world tranquility.
A historical note of interest: when the process of establishing this nation began, the thoughts put forward at that time, were feared, denied, and definitely were not the opinion of the majority. Even as that was the case, you are still living in embrace of those feared words, and they did not harm you. Change equals fear of the unknown, however, as often as not it produces a comfort zone once it has been established. Change is the catalyst of the chemistry of society, and as such must be carefully considered. A whole structure approach, and never a quick fix, or the results can be dire and far-reaching.
The above statements are why I write these words, for I have never been happy with the ‘why’ of the world, and have spent sixty-three years seeking the ‘why not’. Our current fixation upon youth leaves little room for an understanding, historically understood without doubt. Sage advice from the ages, often releases us from our cages. Currently we embrace far too many yahbuts. Yahbuts are an impediment to advance, and constructive discourse. What, the hell, is a yahbut? A yahbut is an expression of fear of change; a phrase used in-order to deny the possibility of improvement. We are all guilty of yahbuts, and you hear them everyday. Let me give a simple example.
“You know, our government needs to do something about medical care, they just don’t care about us”.
“Yeah but, there is no place I would rather live. This is the greatest nation on earth”.
A typical yahbut, which serves to ignore the fact many nations provide far greater medical service to their citizenry, and we can too. Yahbuts are a comfort zone, and a way to procastinate, allowing us to drift along denying our responsibility. It is up to us to address the problems of our nation, and when we do, we guarantee the truth of the second part of the above conversation. Saying it is the greatest, does not make it so, that requires making it the greatest. Because of America’s unique design, we have the right to do so. In-order to make it happen, consider this simple piece of doggerel, “Oh you Ostriches, my fellow man. They led us here and pointed, saying this is sand. Lest by chance a fool we hap to be, the truth is plain for all to see. Yuck, phooey, and out we spit. That’s not sand, its bullshit”. In other words, we need to spend less time defending what is, and more time seeking what can be. We know where we are, and must not be afraid to go, “where no man has gone before”. America, to live up to its roots, must embrace its foundation as a nation of pioneers, pioneers of thought, exploration, and expression of individual freedom. To effectively, do so requires reaching for the sublime, and not settling for the mundane. A quest for why not, and rejecting the why. This defines, exactly, the purpose of the words of the second greatest writing of humankind…our Constitution. We were handed the keys; yet fear to unlock the door, and my friends…”fear is crippling”.
For two-hundred and thirty-one years, we have walked the path we currently tread, and ringing in our ears are the relentless concerns of health care, retirement, poverty, crime, and panoply of further social illnesses. Social illnesses, which cannot be cured by passing a law, anymore than a law can be passed against cancer. Causation is the home of cure, and it is to causation we must turn our efforts. Throughout this book, I shall refer to this theme until the light, which is burning, indicates somebody is home. It is not wrong to change, it is advancement, and fear retards advancement. As you read my words, think, imagine, dream, for they are doors, and doors are not exits, they are entrances. “The door to a building is not an exit. One side is the entrance to the building, and the other side is the entrance to the world”. If we quit arguing, and enter the world, there are no limits to where we can find ourselves. Dream of a perfect world, and then seek it out. Seek what we can be, and turn your back on what we are, an adventure surpassing any theme park ever constructed, for there is no greater ride than life. Rather than wait for heaven, seek it today, and you will find you are on your way. Am I wrong? Is not taking advantage of our given time on earth, what we are supposed to do? Isn’t reaching up, easier on your back, than stooping to reach down”? We no longer need to huddle in fear around the dim fires light, it is time to turn on our internal lights, and reach for the edge of possibility. Dispel our darkness, and bring forth the light of right, and we can banish the fear of night from our lives.
Throughout this book it will be my goal to show the whys, of our lives, and give clear and compelling why nots. I have carried these views in silence for too long, and now is the critical time in history where we must achieve a higher plane, for if we do not, we have no right to complain. Far more critical than losing the right to complain, we shall lose the ability to sustain our species without ever knowing the joy of being all we were meant to be. Sadness, sadness they refuse to listen, and when it is pointed out that they refuse to listen…they refuse to listen. Living a life with your feet stuck to the ground is no longer viable; we must break free and explore the possibilities. We have never been a cowardly nation, and now that sense of pioneer spirit is vital for the entire earth. Once again, let it be America, which leads the way.
On September 2, 1945, WWII was officially over, and from that time, to today, we have fought conflicts without resolution. If a war is worth fighting, it is worth winning, otherwise stay home. The clear, and present danger we now face, requires a war of a different color. We need no guns, bombs, senseless death, rather a war of concern, fairness, honor, and the welfare of all the earths’ peoples. More than that, the very welfare of the Earth must fuel this war, for the loss of this conflict will not result in the enslavement of a portion of humanity, rather it will engender extinction of all humanity. New ideas, and efforts are the weapons of this war, and this war is the ultimate “World War”. Nobody sits on the sideline of this conflict, and ignoring it will not make it go away. So with that thought in mind, please read on.
