Onzain Neerlandaise (New)Entry #564871
The Onzain is a French form in origin, and in future posts I am going to add more examples of this form. The Dutch variation of the Onzain - Onzijn was popularized in The Netherlands by Drs. P. The good Doctor is celebrating his 88th birthday today.

Onze stands for eleven. The Onzain counts eleven lines, and each line contains eleven syllables. The rhyme scheme for the Onzain Neerlandaise:

onzijn.
a-b-c-b-c-d-c-d-a-e-e

An example in Dutch:
Koude

Och, mocht ik op deze winderige dag,
mijn toch al stijve knieën in huis warmen.
Mijn ijspegelvoetjes in wollen sokken,
brengen geen heil, mijn hemel, heb erbarmen!
Desinterresse bij de kids, ze mokken
bij het zien van een enorme stapel vaat
tot het mij hoog zit, als ze weer gaan knokken
en ik, helaas geen seconde rusten mag.
Dan wordt toch uiteind’lijk mijn dichtershart blij
met het zien van deez’ opdracht: onzijn voor mij!

An example in English:

Late shift...

time ticks away, I am waiting for you
my mind wonders off, I’m day-dreaming; awake
as the wind hits the trees, and hail is falling
you have to stay put on a ten minute break.
the last tram won’t go back; I hope you’re calling
cell on speaker, talk on your way home, to me
seconds are passing, oh mind! hibernating
a good night of rest will set my body free
I’ll nap on the couch, yes, that’s what I shall do
and wake up again, the moment you step in,
our day just ended, a new day will begin.
