Job update and the difference between family and relatives
Current mood: grateful

As most of you know, I applied at the Atchison Juvenile Correction Center for a Corrections Officer position. It was a huge longshot because I have no experience in this whatsoever really (at least not in this exact field) and I knew I would be up against some good competition. Well, guess what. I had a message on my phone from the Center on Friday and they want me! They left me four messages actually trying to get ahold of me and it was only kind of a fluke that I checked my messages since I shut my phone off the whole time I was on vacation. I am going in Monday morning to do the physical agility test, drug test, and background screening with fingerprints, etc. Contingent on passing all of those tests, I start my position on July 10!!

I have told several people about this position and only a couple before now about the outcome to this point. Let's play a little game. Ready to take a quiz? Betcha didn't know that reading my blog would entail you to be tested but here it is. Below are four responses I received. Match up the responses with whom said it. Your choices are: A. my mother; B. my wife; C. Shannen; and D. my bio sister, Shelly.

Response #1: "I am so proud of you. I knew you would get it."
Response #2: "Are you even QUALIFIED for that?"
Response #3: "Congratulations! They must know a good person when they see one. I am so proud of you."
Response #4: "Are you even physically fit enough to do this job?"

Ready to see your score? 1-C; 2-D; 3-B; 4-A. How'd you do?

BTW- #2 Translates to, "What does a background in mental health, alzheimers, and computers have to do with delinquents. Are you even intelligent enough for this position?" and #4 translates to, "Can your fat ass keep up with these boys?" Not once did my sister or my mother congratulate me when I did get the job and told them, be happy for me, or show faith in me. And vice versa, not once did Michelle, Shannen, or Christina show anything but pride of me, happiness for me, and faith in me when I told them I got it. Even all the kids hugged and kissed me and were happy for me. That is the difference between family and relatives.

So, thank you to everyone who has sent me love, included me in prayers and thoughts, and sent good vibes out our way. It all worked. As long as I can prove my mother wrong and pass this physical agility test on Monday (that I have already practiced for and passed), I'm good to go. Love you all!

Peace,
Ang
