In April, a member emailed us noting that our "Most Viewed" sorting was not actually sorting results correctly. Indeed, when we looked into this, we found it was the result of changes we made to increase the site's speed and performance a few months earlier. Unable to find a viable solution at that time, we removed the sorting option until we could make it work right and work fast.
(For those interested in the "technical" reasoning.... Because the view count is updated very often, while the rest of the item's data is not, in our database backend, we moved the "view count" field from the main item table into its own view table. This simple change removed a bunch of system overhead each time an item is viewed on the site... which is often. )
We finally devised a way to quickly sum both the old and new view count data and perform a sort on it in a way that doesn't make the item listing sort time unbearably slow. As such, Most Viewed sorting has returned to the item listings!
