Chapter 1Entry #619996
Berkley stepped out of his car and into the mud --now sloshing his black leather boots. “Sassy!” he yelled looking down at the brown fluid, “I cannot go in there like this!”

Sassy paid no attention. Issues of her own, like heels and fishnet stockings plagued her mind. These accessories, coupled with a mini skirt stepped far beyond her comfort zone. Add to that the belly shirt and you have nervous anxiety. Her entire teenage life she managed to avoid skimpy clothing and now at thirty-three, she was about to enter the Halloween party denouncing such conservativeness.

The best part, at least yesterday, was how she told her best friend, Darcy that she’d arrive as Glenda, the Good Witch. “I picked it up at Simon Says,” she had told Darcy. The cover up lie feeling good.

Now, treading through mud, her distress matched Berkley’s. In addition to the skimpiness factor, another more enveloping reason underscored her present apprehension. Yesterday, Darcy’s announcement of the guest list made Sassy dizzy with uncertainty. Anne Strickland would be there. No doubt she’d be all over Berkley, and in the process, Anne would go out of her way to insult her.
