Part 1: The Truth
You would think ever rich person would be a snob about their money. But what if you didn't know you were rich? What if you spend part of your life living a Joe-average life with nothing exciting or worth wild? Could it be for your own good or just plain selfishness? That's what Raymond had to go through in his life, living in Dallas in a regular apartment in the middle of town. His parents were business people at the time and he usually spent his days on the computer, researching some exciting things to read about and hopefully meet some new friends. He was pretty smart for a nine year old boy and enjoyed the usually things boy's enjoy like playing sports, messing with girls, and just being himself. However, he still stood out from the crowd at school and he never understood why. It wasn't until he found a recent article on his great-great-grandfather, Henry Peter Wilson, that he figures out why.
"Henry Peter Wilson was possibility one of the greatest and richest explores in the world at his time," Raymond read the article aloud. "Around the mid to late 1800's, Henry Wilson sailed around the Atlantic after hearing rumors in South Africa about diamonds. Once he arrived in Africa, he was struck with malaria and almost died before the search even began. After meeting a nurse by the name of Danielle Dixie, he soon recovered and began a successful research. He soon made a deal with some African men to trade in the gold and diamond in return for freedom. He was married before sailing back to America, just in time for the oil boom in Texas. With the money he made, he passed down his fortunes to his family to come."
After reading what the article said, the jade eyes boy was in complete shock on what it said. As he ruffled his jet black in utter amazement, he pondered the thought about his parents knowing around this.
"Do they know? Do they know about great-great granddad Henry and his money? Why would they keep it a secret from me and even settled living in this dump?" he wondered as he got a good look at the place. The apartment they were living in had an ugly sea-green color wallpaper that was falling down, clips in the wall everywhere you looked, rusted appliances, torn up furniture, and a cheesy TV that still worked with antenna. Usually his parents weren't cheap, but they never brought anything expensive for no one or themselves. Maybe it was to hide a secret that the young lad didn't need to know. Either way, he was going to have to tell his parents about his discovery. Raymond never liked keeping secrets and frankly wasn't good at it either. He could wait though because his parents were due back any minute now.
Just as he predicted, the apartment door opened and in walked in two figures which were his parents. His father looked like the average business man, tall, fit, wearing a gray 3 piece suit and brown hair with white streaks staring to form. His mother, even though she worked in the business world like her husband, looked more like a model as opposed to an uptight business lady. Her strawberry blonde hair was up in a ponytail before she let it loose, had on a red ladies suit before taking off the jacket and high heels to match. He sometimes wondered how his two parents make him and who his is. Anyway, his father hung up his jacket on the hanger and picked up his only child to greet him.
"Hey there sport, how's it going?" his father asked with a grinned of his perfect white teeth.
"How was your day today son?" Carrington asked her only son. Once Gadiel put him down, young Raymond answered both of their questions.
"Well," he responded polity and honestly, "I was doing some research on famous rich men in the world and stumbled across an article about Henry Wilson, my great-great grandfather who was an explores and found gold and diamonds in Africa and discovered oil once he came back." His voice started to raise in frustration on how his parents have been keeping this big of a secret from him, but then developed some tears in sorrowfulness. "Why?" he cried through his tears.
"Son, please come sit down with me and your father," requested Carrington. He quickly obeyed and sat right in the middle of his mother and father.
"Now Raymond," his father started to explain. "We meant to tell you this soon, however not this soon."
"I see," his mother interrupted, "Technically, you're still too young to have ALL of your money. And all we wanted was for you to enjoy your life as a kid." Raymond looked into his mother's royal blue eyes and realized that she was telling the truth. He started to imagined what his life would be like if he knew sooner than expected. He would probably be like those stuck-up rich snobs who doesn't really care about people and wouldn't spare a dime to anyone. He would also feel lonely with all of his money and none of his friends. Still, he wished that they would've told him ahead of time.
"Well, can we please get out of here anyway? Living in this apartment isn't exactly the best place to be," he asked innocently. Both of his parents received a smile on their face when they heard that, as if they had some good news to tell him.
"Funny you should mention that, Ray," his father stated. "Because your mother and I have landed some major business deals with a company in New York and we'll be moving to a nice mansion-like apartment in two weeks!" Raymond jumped off the couch in complete shock about the exciting new he just heard. He was finally leaving this small, cramp apartment to a mansion in the Big City. He couldn't though to picture his friends leaving him. After all, he only had a few since most of the time he stayed in the apartment. Carrington got the message on her son's face and tried to comfort him the best way possible.
"Sweetie, I know its hard moving in such short timing, but I promise you it will be for the better. And beside, you're bounded to make more new friends once you get there."
"Because I have money?" he asked sort of sarcastically.
"No," she laughed, "Just by being you." After that little chat, they all gathered around in a family hug and hoping for a brighter future together.
Part 2: The Plane Ride and Game Plan
It wasn't long before Raymond's parents were getting things ready to move to New York City and get one last chance to see his good friends before he left. He told them everything on what he just learned about his great-great grandfather discovery. He made sure though that he didn't bragged too much about the money and the family fortunes he was going to inherit once he was old enough. At first, they didn't believe him but once he actually showed them the articles, they did immediately.
"Man, some people get all of the luck. My uncle just got out of jail after robbing a bank and he's still on patrol. But you, dude, you're up there!" one of his friends, Freddy, said.
"Well it's not going to be the same without guys. Rich or not, you're like my brothers and I'm gonna miss ya," Raymond stated trying not to cry. The guys didn't seem to notice because they too were starting to cry as well. All of his 5 little friends banged their fist together as he waved good-bye to Freddy, Noah, Josh, Matthew, and Luke. Its funny how Raymond was friends was with identical quints and he himself was an only child. Once his parents called him telling him that he was going to be picked up by the new lady chauffeur in any minute, he waved one last time at the 5 boys with sandy brown hair, freckle face, blue eyes boys.
He slid into the brand new limousine that had that new car smell of black cloth and the a/c turned on high. The lady driver introduced herself to Raymond as Miss. Olien from Russia and she's very happy to serve him and his parents. About in her late-teens, early 20's, she had a big, bright smile that would never go away. It took a little while to get to the airport, so it was a good thing he brought some comic books to read and his brand-new PSP so he wasn't bored. However, even with all of his entertainment he had surrounding him, he was deep in thoughts about his new life from a small, middle-class apartment to a mansion-like apartment in upstate New York. Olien realized that something was wrong with Raymond even though she didn't know him that well.
"Is there something wrong, Mr. Raymond?" she asked seemingly worried. He looked up at her in shock on the question and the name.
"Hey, Miss Olien. It is o.k. if you call me Ray or Raymond, and I guess I'm still just a little sad and nervous about this whole 'new life-style' change. I never expected my parents to hit something so big from me and hit it off in the big leagues with these new deals. I just don't know what to do," he signed. As a good listener she was, she had some sympathy for the little jade-eyes, nine years old.
"It's going to be alright, Raymond. You maybe new to New York but like everything that changes, you get use to it." He gave her a sly, little smile and went back to his books.
Once they arrived at the DFW airport, his parent's plane was already loaded-up, fueled-up, and ready for take off. All it needed was the passengers with their luggage’s (which was already on the plane) and the pilot and co-pilot to fly it. Once everything was loaded up, it was time to hitch it out and head towards New York. The plane was like a mini house inside with a small living room, kitchen, bathrooms, a bedroom for Gadiel and Carrington and a bedroom for Raymond. The plane was designed by a famous designer with a golden rug, beautiful dining, crystal glass tables, and red drapes to match it. It was definitely going to become a home away from home, at least for his parents. After a quick tour around with the plane, his parents called him for a little meeting in the living room to talk about his plans.
"Well son, what do you think of this so far?" his father asked kindly. He wanted to make sure that his only son was comfortable even though they were sort of moving fast.
"It's pretty cool. I still can't believe that this is ours," he replied, still amazed at what's going on.
"Well Ray, me and your father have a little surprise for you," his mother whispered in a sweet voice.
"You're not pregnant, are you?" he stated a little grossed out. He didn't like being an only child all the time, but he didn't want to get stuck with baby-duty either. His parents chuckled a little at that remark.
"No son," his father assured him. "It's not a baby. We figured with your mother and I working a little bit more and so that you not alone, we enrolled you in some dance classes." If Raymond was holding a glass of champagne in his hands, it would've cracked and shattered to pieces on the rug.
"Dance classes? Do they think I'm a girl?" he though. Guys don't dance, at least not in tights and girly tutus.
"No dear, we know what you're thinking, but think about it. Most athletics take it to improve on balance and it’s great exercise for you."
"Beside," his father continues, "If you're lucky enough, you can become a ladies man and really impress some girls."
"I guess, but..." he was interrupted by the announcer.
"We will be landing in least than 30 minutes. So please, get all of you belonging that you want to take off and the other stuff like furniture will be taken off by the staff. It's been a pleasure servicing you and I hope that you enjoyed your ride. Thank you and have a nice, new day." It was a lady that talked into the speaker like a microphone and the message was heard LOUD and CLEAR.
"We'll finish this either tonight or tomorrow, ok?" Carrington stated.
"O.k." he sighed and went to gather his stuff. "Welcome to a new beginning, Raymond".
Part 3: New York City
They flew in around the late afternoon time and managed to unload all of their belonging into the moving truck. Raymond still didn't ride home with his parents because once they arrived there, they had to go to a meeting and talk about their plans for the business. So once again, jade-eyes Raymond had to ride to his new 'apartment' by himself, with Miss Olien. He was just as quiet from the earlier ride from their old apartment building to his newer apartment.
"Is something else bothering you, Mr. Raymond?" she asked is her lightly Russian accent. He was about to corrected her, but he figured it was either for politeness or her respected to superior authority.
"Nothing much, it's just that my parents want to sign me up for dance classes without even telling me. I just don't know what to expected," he sighed. Miss Olien started to giggle a little before her realized that he was staring at her with mean, angry eyes. She stopped and resumed speaking. "My apologizes Mr. Raymond, but why would your parents do that?"
"They think that I'm going to be lonely in the apartment by myself. But I can probably find something else to do, right?"
Olien didn't replied back right away. She wanted to say the right words for him so he would understand the solution.
"Raymond, your parents love you and want to do what's best for you. Getting involved in something with other kids is always exciting and full of adventure! So just give it a try and take a chance on it," she cheered with a cry. He didn't say anything, but he didn't need to. She made that smile come back up on his face and he knew it was going to be a beginning of a new friendship.
They cruised around the city that never sleeps, New York filled with bright light everywhere, tall skyscrapers after skyscrapers, and millions of people walking up and down the city before finally heading home. This was it see was the new big city looked like and a little surprise for Raymond. Once they returned to their never-before-seen apartment, Ray's parents had a little surprise for him in stores. Miss Olien pulled up into the driveway and alerted the sleepy Raymond that they were finally home.
"Welcome to your new home, Mr. Ray," she greeted. He rubbed his eyes, blinked a few times, and stared all jaw-dropping at his new 4 stories apartment mansion. The outside looked like a mini skyscraper with brownish-red brinks, dozens of glass windows and it seem like there was a giant courtyard in the back. He couldn't believe that he went from middle-class to superior upper-classmen in the course of 2 weeks. He could hardly wait to see what was inside, so he rushed to the door, swung it open and stared at the marvelous sight of his shiny, green eyes. It was something you would see on the Discovery Channel with beautiful chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, marvel tiles as you walked in, giant staircases that led to up-stairs, even an elevator! He heard people in the kitchen making clanking sounds of the pots and pans preparing for dinner. It looked like those professional cooking kitchens with a clean surface area, stainless steel everything, and topped it off with a beautiful dining area. Raymond was in a state of shock, not believing any of this stuff was his, sort of.
"Mr. Raymond, your parents have a surprise for you up-stairs," Miss Olien announced.
"Are you sure this isn't it?" he chuckled.
"Go up-stairs to your room, it's on the 4th floor to the right and see for yourself," she instructed. So he did what he was told and ran straight for his new room. He didn't even bother to take the elevator but still made it there in recorded time, although he was out of breath. Slowly, he opened the door in lost thoughts about his new room. To his surprise, it was filled with every boys dreams from tons of the latest video games, DVD’s, a 60'' flat screen TV, 6 more 20'', and even the latest laptop. He wasn't a techno-geek, but he was interested in research and the video games were the biggest. Not only that, but an autographed shirt from his favorite baseball player, Kenny Rogers. Raymond was so all struck; he nearly passed out on the floor.
"This is all for me?!" he asked jumping up and down in excitement. They both nodded and held out their arms for a family group hug. "Yes son, this is all your and we want to apologizes for the big changes, Ray," his father said we empathy. He looked around his new room and replied that it was alright. For the next hour after they had dinner, they talked about the plans for the future involving school and dance classes. He wanted to protest against that, but didn't have enough strength to fight. After they explained everything to him it was time for bed, so he washed up, brushed his teeth and went straight to bed with a good-night kiss from his mother and father. However, even though his body was tired, his mind was wondering what was going to happened tomorrow starting his new life in New York City.
