The Age of Innocence by Edith WhartonEntry #653360
Genre: Classic Fiction

Summary: In the 1870s, scandal was born. On the eve of Newland Archer's engagement announcement to his beloved, May Welland, May's estranged cousin, Madame Olenska, shows up from England. She is separated from her husband, who was cheating on her, and the whole city of New York is talking about the scandal. But what's even more scandalous? Newland and Olenska are spending a lot of time together. Well, before he can blink, Newland is married to May and is realizing he made a big mistake. But does he have the guts to leave his wive for his true love?

Why I Picked It Up: I chose this novel as my final assignment for my AP English class.

My Opinion: This was definitely and interesting book. There were some parts I wished the author hadn't embellished so much, but at other times, I wouldn't have even dreamt of putting the novel down. It really was scandalous for a book written in its time. It was awesome and the characters were marvelous. The ending was slightly disappointing, but I can understand why Wharton decided to end it that way.

My Rating: Four Stars
