The Fourth of JulyEntry #658309
This was the first weekend when my girlfriend met the rest of my family. In any other family this probably wouldn't even deserve a letter home let alone a journal entry in a public domain like Writing.Com but in my family it is necessary to document her survival. My mom and dad are normal if you consider being trapped in the seventies. They aren't big on modern things like cell phones and satellite television even though they have both. They are old fashioned to a fault and sometimes over-bearing to boot, but they are the most sane in the family.

My youngest brother is more perverted than me, and if you know me this is quite the statement. He also suffers from depression, bi-polar syndrome and bad hygiene. He can be moody, lazy and unfriendly. He expects the world to cater to him because of all the self-inflicted hardships placed on his shoulders.

My younger brother, his wife, two kids and a grandchild are a lot for any one to handle. They all display traits and eating habits of the Cookie Monster. We had a cookout where everyone in my family was there including my niece and nephew's dates. They arrived the very minute the food was put on the table and placed on their plates in a shorter time than what it was prepared in. The frenzy for food was so intense that me and my girlfriend were pushed off to the side until they were done, showing my girlfriend what was more important... and it wasn't meeting her. My dad, later, took it upon himself to apologize to her for their actions.

There were some other tense times during her visit to meet my family. On her way through Ohio she took a wrong turn and she called me for help. My brother and mother were both within hearing distance of our conversations and they both made their inputs as to how to get her back on the road to my house. My mom had the right state but not the right interstate. My brother had the right city and state and also the wrong interstate. I had to keep repeating to them that she was in Columbus and told my girlfriend to listen to her GPS.

Another moment was when we were making a road trip to see the Amish people. My mom wasn't to willing just to give us directions so she had to go with us and spouting directions all the way. Why was this tense? because my mom was only there once and she didn't drive. This also put me in the back seat and when my mom didn't know where she was she would ask me. Maybe because I'm a truck driver and I drive a lot would I be able to know where we were at. It doesn't work that way.

After all that, My girlfriend and I had a great weekend, even though she brought along a "little friend" fr a couple of days.
