| Chapter Thirty Seven | Entry #659890 |
Hesser though possessing a great mind was often perceived as quite a nervous little man, today at this moment this was a trait more visible than ever. Hesser had spent the last three hours furiously pacing the floor of his lab, desperately seeking a solution to the question he knew was coming, a question for which he possessed no answer, or at least no answer that would serve to gain him favour with his King. Hesser had exhausted his options, without the ‘Bible’ and the combined intellect of his long separated peers he had lost all belief in his ability to meet the terms of his commission, and the failure to be able to meet those terms he knew would bare dire consequences. Hesser needed the ‘Bible’ or maybe he just needed Mason.
The ‘Bible’ had long been believed to have been destroyed in the great fire of 1666, a collection of philosophy, predictions, notes, experiments, detailed dissections of work centuries ahead of its time, a book held for over a thousand years in the clandestine possession of the Christianity’s most secretive souls. A book so profound its very existence was condemned as an elaborate myth, well at least until around 1550. Legend tells that Nostradamus himself gained possession of the book through sources close to Pope Paul III shortly after his death. The knowledge alone gained from this book is thought to have provided the grounding for Nostradamus’ own ‘Les Propheties ‘. Nostradamus may have been a great mind and prophet but his work was far from his own. Regardless of the truth of such beliefs its existence was never information released to the public domain and those few souls who knew of its legacy lost all track following the death of Nostradamus 16 years later. That was until around 1663 at least when its contents re-emerged in England where it became the foundation to the experimentations that would years later form the basis of Hesser’s work. However after London’s great fire of 66 its trail once again went cold thought destroyed. Years later Hesser, Mason and their other collaborators all found possession of the great book once more and the immoral work carried from prior to the great fire found the light of day once more. As for its origins, theories surrounding the ‘Bibles’ are little known, though some have often speculated it to be direct from the hand of Christ himself, it has even been referred to as Holy Grail that was long protected by the Knights Templar itself. Whatever the truth, one thing was certain if it was still around Mason must have it in his possession or at least know the man who did.
Mason now reacquainted with Silas and armed with the knowledge attained by his master found himself on his way to make an unannounced visit to Hesser’s facility. Silas accompanied by Mason and armed with the Huntz and revenge driven Franzenbaron had one purpose from this point on, to gain access to the facility by whatever means necessary and take what they needed to make Silas’s dream finally a reality, immortality would be his, untold strength and genius would be his, he would finally become the God in truth that his mind always believed him to be. Still among all the grandeur of his dreams and the eve of his accent to Godhood, thoughts of the Princess and their recent time together clouded his mind. Regardless of any doubts or distractions, nothing would be able to divert him from his quest as the Coach thundered and crashed its way through the dirt roads to Hamburg.
Meanwhile King Frederich’s arrival had been announced and with purpose in his step he was escorted through to Hesser’s state of the art laboratory, before dismissing them for a private audience.
“Dr Hesser, you have made progress have you not?” sniped an impatient King, “I expect news, and going by your recent lack of contact I can only assume you’ve been too busy with your miraculous strides forward to keep me so informed. Therefore I thought I’d take it upon myself to see your progress for myself, so again Dr, tell me of your progress”.
A feeling of intense nausea overcame Hesser as his nervous gut took control, vomit erupted into his mouth, with no option and daring not to further disrespect the king, he swallowed hard and cleared his throat, “Your Majesty, I’m truly honoured by your presence.”
“Yes, yes, I’m sure you are, so what of your progress?”
“I’m afraid I have little that’s new to report, recent experiments ha...”
“What!” exclaimed a furious King, “Hesser you are a worthless drain on my kingdom’s resources, I ask you to create me an undefeatable army and all you’ve produced thus far is ward upon ward of deranged individuals barely fit for cannon fodder, you have failed me one time too often I fear.”
“Wait your majesty, please I have a solution, I’m sure.” begged Hesser.
“Talk to me Dr.”
“There is a book, a book that holds the information that I’m sure will give us the outcomes we both desire, it’s existence by many is though as little more than a myth but I know it’s real, I’ve seen it, used it before”
“You mean the Bible yes? I know of it” snapped back the King
“A Dr Charles Mason, my old associate, I believe he may be in possession of it, if you can locate him and procure me the book I know I can come through for you.
“Maybe I should simply commission this Mason to complete that which you’ve proven unable”.
“I believe if the rumours from my sources are true that that would be quite impossible, it’s believed his employer is none other than Sir Maxton Silas. No disrespect your majesty but I believe that would make him quite unattainable, even for you.”
The King paused in thought for a moment, considering his next words carefully “My daughter tells me that Silas is currently here in Germany, this Mason should therefore be an easy target back in England, I will endeavour to look into your request until the fruits of this are realised I expect you to continue to work and find a solution for if this proves a further waste of my time you should not expect to live long enough to regret the errors of your actions.”
With that King Frederich signalled to his entourage through the glass of the separating door to the corridor and they prepared to escort the King back to his awaiting carriage.
Silas had instructed his coach driver to approach the Psychiatric facility cautiously, for what Silas was intending a more stealth like approach was required, the last thing he wanted was for anyone to raise suspicions through their uninvited presence, a precaution that was already proving prudent.
“Sir, is that not King Frederich?” quizzed Mason as he viewed the facility from their coach overlooking it on the hill.
“Indeed it is Mason; it seems we have undoubtedly found our dear Dr Hesser”.
The King boarded his carriage and surrounded by his entourage left the facility on the way to his majesty’s next engagement.
“So when do we make our move Sir” enquired Mason.
“Tonight my dear doctor, we’ll wait until night falls and for the core staff to go home, and then we go in and take whatever we need!”
“And Hesser Sir, what of Hesser?”
“Get me everything I need, once that is done, Hesser is all yours to do with as you please.”
