The OakEntry #665001
I saw her sitting against The Oak. There was a rumor going around campus that the The Oak had some sort of tree cancer. They would have to cut it down soon.

I'd seen her and Jack fighting in the dining hall. They weren't exactly discreet when it came to their lover's quarrels. They'd yelled loudly about whether or not he was cheating on her, and then he'd dragged her away by a not-so-gentle grip on her arm. Anyone with eyes could have seen she was struggling against it.

I watched her for a second longer and then went to stand beside her. She had her back up against the trunk, and her hair was fanning out in the wind.

         "Why so blue?"

She turned her head slightly to look up at me and then away again. "Go away, Sam."

"Not likely." I forced out a small chuckle and took a seat beside her.

She kept her face hidden but I put a hand under her chin and turned it toward me. I ground my teeth together when I saw the red spot over her eye. In a few days, it would be a full-on bruise, and then everyone would know the truth.

"I'll kill him." Of course, I'd had my suspicions, but no proof. Well, here it was, on the perfect face of an innocent girl.

"No, you won't." A smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. "You'll stay, and you'll give me a hug, and tell me you're here for me."

Of course I would. "And tomorrow, you'll break up with Jack."

Her smile faded, but she nodded and set her head on my shoulder, closing her eyes as we rested against the dying Oak.
