WolfEntry #667244
A scream echoed through the forest. I tried to ignore it, tried to move on like he'd told me to. But how could I keep going when I knew there was so much pain racing through him?

"Sarah, don't you dare go back! You heard what he said! He'll kill you."

I was almost certain that was a lie. Just because he wasn't human didn't mean he wasn't still Ryan. I waited for Lizzie to turn her back to me, and then made a run for it. I couldn't think about anything but getting back to the place we just were, where Ryan had told us not to turn back. He had already been cringing from the change.

I stopped when I was back in the clearing. My breathing was so loud, I knew that if he was close, he would hear me. He wasn't there, where earlier he had been ready to fall to the ground.

My eyes swept the wood around me, but I couldn't catch any movement. The moon shone down through the open trees, landing at my feet and making me shiver.

A grunt from behind me made me turn around. The wolf crouched in front of me wasn't growling. He didn't even look angry. His eyes were round and his head cocked to the side as if asking what I was doing.

          I didn't know.

Taking a step forward, I reached my hand out, praying he wouldn't try to bite it off or something. When my foot landed on and cracked a twig, the wolf jumped back and bolted in the other direction.

I watched him go, knowing I would see Ryan again in the morning.
